Passing the Buk By William Bowles

22 July 2014  — williambowles.info

Well, aside from a few comments I’ve posted on Moon of Alabama, I’ve spent most of the time reading (when I’ve not been compiling) just about everything I could on the subject of the downing of Malaysian Airlines #MH17 and I think it’s pretty obvious that the Russians have been fitted up for this horrendous crime by the Kiev authorities (and possibly others) and, it must be said, they did a pretty bad job of it! If it wasn’t for the craven and complicit corporate/state media in the West simply not reporting on the actual events of the 17 July as they have been revealed, the reality of the frame would be obvious to everyone.

In memorium – Jack Agueros

6 May 2014 — williambowles.info

My dear friend and colleague, Jack Agueros died on Sunday, 4 May 2014. Anybody who has been following this site will know that I had the pleasure and the honour of working with Jack for six years, when he hired me to design and build El Museo del Barrio in Manhattan’s East Harlem of which he was director. Jack had been ill with Alzheimer’s for some time but I was lucky enough to pay him a visit in 20008 whilst he still recognised those around him, but it was still heartbreaking to see my old friend, a shadow of his former self. You are sorely missed Jack. There’s an obituary to him here in the NYT and a much better one here, in el Diario. Salud Jack

Portrait of Jozi By William Bowles

1 May 2014 — williambowles.info

Believe or not, I have been known to write poetry occasionally. Now I’m clueless when it comes to poetry, whatever rhythms I generate are entirely intuitive. Here’s one I wrote back in 2001 when I lived in Johannesburg that I’m kinda fond of. It really is how I reacted to my ten years there as I sat in my back yard overlooking the city.

The Bush Family Saga – Airbrushed out of history By William Bowles

24 June 2005 — williambowles.info

[This essay is an updated version of my original piece, ‘Frauds-R-US‘, written for ‘Devastating Society’, edited by Bernd Hamm, Pluto Press, 2005. Unfortunately, due to space restrictions, I had cut down the size of this essay for the book version. WB]

INTRODUCTION

That a family with so many skeletons in its collective closet could have produced two presidents of the world’s most powerful nation should have every last one of us wondering whether the world has gone completely mad. Perhaps it has. This may be the lesson we need to learn from the Bush Family Saga, that far from being an exception to the rule, it is the rule because they and the class and “race” they represent write the rules. Most important of all is the fact that the Bush family is not an aberration, but symbolic of the nature of US imperialism and how it came to be.

What a sorry state of affairs By William Bowles

19 November 2013 — williambowles.info

I have been involved with left-wing politics in one guise or another pretty much my entire life and I have to admit to getting an awful lot of stuff wrong, largely because rather than thinking things through properly for myself, I listened to the ‘authority’, to those who allegedly know best.

Re Mass Meeting on Surveillance

2 November 2013

Re Mass Meeting on Surveillance:

As the article below doesn’t actually inform you as to date and location (and instead gives you a link to a damn Facebook page, here is the info):

Monday, 4 November 6:45 – 9pm at RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects?!)
66 Portland Place London W1B 1AD

Do the organisers NOT want people to attend? And why at RIBA? Here’s the actual invitation and a list of all the ‘usual suspects’ hosting it and note, not a single representative from the ‘left’ on the panel of speakers: Continue reading this...

Listen to Your Ancestors By William Bowles

18 October 2003 — williambowles.info

[This is another essay out of the past that on rereading, seems even more relevant than it did when I wrote it almost exactly ten years ago in 2003. It exists in its old non-Wordpress form but republishing it here, makes it more accessible as well as tying into my current writing. WB]

I am a big fan of history. Ever since I was a kid, history fascinated me and perhaps in another life I might well have become a historian. And, in an age where history gets rewritten by the corporate media hour by hour, day by day, understanding where we come from and how we got here is a critical issue.

Nigeria: Hidden Histories By William Bowles

24 June 2006 — williambowles.info

Harold Smith, who died 3 January 2010 is almost unknown except for the few who are aware of his courageous and lifelong struggle to expose the murderous duplicity of British Imperialism in Nigeria. Smith, in 1960 then a novice, young colonial administrator in Nigeria attempted to expose the rigged and phoney ‘independence’ that the British had foisted on the Nigerian people. I wrote this back in 2006 and given all the current events in Africa, I felt it worthwhile reprinting it. There is also a followup piece, ‘Hidden histories confirmed: So much for the ‘Mother of Parliaments’‘, that I wrote a couple of years later. There is also a tribute page to Harold here. Yes I know I’ve not been very prolific…

10 October 2013

Yes, I know, I’ve not been very prolific of late, either with articles or my own work (in spite of brief burst of activity over Syria, Sarin and the BBC) but then I’ve been doing this pretty much non-stop for over ten years and I’m just burned out. Worse still, I feel like like I’m just pissing in the wind for all the good I try to do.

The BBC and the Imperial mindset By William Bowles

2 September 2013 — williambowles.info

Yes, I know I keep banging on about the BBC but it is such an influential power, not only nationally but also globally, so much so that its pronouncements are most often taken as gospel (objective, impartial, unbiased). But any reading of the history of the BBC should disabuse you of this piece of fiction.

Chemical hallucinations By William Bowles

30 August 2013 — williambowles.info

I think it’s true to say that the days of creating ‘dodgy dossiers‘(pdf)[1] are now over, at least if the latest ‘dodgy report’ is anything to go by. Put out by the UK’s Joint Intelligence Committee, it purports to offer proof that Assad gassed his own people. But aside from the fact that it offers not a shred of proof, it’s also amateurish and clearly put together in a panic.

US-Israeli false flag gas attack unravels By William Bowles

28 August 2013 — williambowles.info

Commit a war crime to cover up a war crime?

This is where it all started: The Israeli intelligence front the Debkafile, which is the source of the story that implicated the Assad government and/or its military in the gas attack on East Ghouta and now forms the basis for the war on Syria. Continue reading this...

Is the drive for war on Syria to cover up a war crime? By William Bowles

27 August 2013 — williambowles.info

According to the source, Russia’s ambassador in the UN Security Council, Vitaly Churkin, presented conclusive evidence – based on documents and Russian satellite images – of two rockets carrying toxic chemicals, fired from Douma, controlled by the Syrian “rebels”, and landing on East Ghouta. Hundreds of “rebels”, as well as civilians – including those children on the cover of Western corporate media papers – were killed. The evidence, says the Russian source, is conclusive. — Pepe Escobar

Syria chemical weapons claim: The BBC just doesn’t give up By William Bowles

24 August 2013 — williambowles.info

Evidently, the BBC was not satisfied with the propaganda pieces I referred to in yesterday’s article, so it’s come out with another, equally audacious piece of fiction that reiterates, again without any proof, the same drivel it peddled to us yesterday (and the day before). But what ‘UN’s Angela Kane in Syria urges chemical weapons probe‘ (24/8/13) does is communicate a sense that it (the BBC’s) wishes might yet come true; that the Empire would once again unleash the dogs of war this time on poor, destroyed Syria.
