The BBC’s Syrian Chemical Weapons Coverage: An exercise in Imperial deception By William Bowles

23 August 2013 —

Over the past three days, since the story first broke, the BBC’s news Website (I use the word news advisedly) has carried twelve stories on the alleged chemical weapons attack that took place in a suburb of Damascus. Today’s offerings include, Hague believes Assad behind attack (23/8/13), without offering a shred of proof that the Assad government is behind the alleged attack or even that it took place, takes foreign secretary Hague’s ‘belief’ as a given. The lead paragraph tells it all: Continue reading this...

Site under attack, but all is well…

13 August 2013

Update: It seems the site has been under a sustained ‘Denial of Service’  or DDoS attack since Saturday. My excellent ISP (who have hosted my site for over 10 years) have installed a raft of security measures over and above the usual array, so hopefully this will do the trick. But because of the additional security, I’ve had to disable some tools that the site uses eg, related posts and translation, as they use routines that can be exploited by attackers.

‘Witnessing’ Boston’s Mass Casualty Theatre By William Bowles

13 May 2013 —

Mention the word ‘conspiracy’ and eyes roll and people head for the exit. Derision is poured with abandon on the heads of those so described as ‘conspiracy theorists’, and especially those who dare to suggest that complex events can be engineered so as to fool the onlooker or the curious. The Boston bombings appear to fall into this category. Indeed, it’s so blatantly an engineered event that I think the ‘producers’ are getting careless (maybe they think we don’t care? More likely, they think we’re too scared to care). Continue reading this...

Crisis in the Socialist Workers Party reveals a crisis of the left By William Bowles

17 January 2013 —

Hmmm… I’ve been watching the ‘left’ here in the UK tear itself apart literally for decades, and it had been going on for decades prior to my arrival on the scene. What’s difficult to swallow is the attitude expressed below (which I’m reprinting in its entirety), where the writer reacts to the events that are currently tearing the SWP apart, as if it’s something new on the ‘left’.

Apparently, there are problems with some posts not showing up. Not sure what the problem is but reposting seems to cure whatever it is is that ails the site.

An uncommon silence By William Bowles

27 November

I decided to update this a little largely because I’ve had some responses to it that have made me think a little more about why I find it so difficult to put (virtual) pen to (virtual) paper (though I actually do a lot of my initial writing in my ever-present notebook). One reader wrote to me, in part: Continue reading this...

From the horse’s mouth

20 November 2012

If anyone has any doubts about the racist nature of Israeli society then the following quotes by Gilad Sharon, son of Ariel Sharon should clear the mist from your eyes:

“There should be no electricity in Gaza, no gasoline or moving vehicles, nothing. Then they’d really call for a ceasefire,” he wrote. “We need to flatten entire neighbourhoods in Gaza. Flatten all of Gaza. The Americans didn’t stop with Hiroshima – the Japanese weren’t surrendering fast enough, so they hit Nagasaki, too.” — Jerusalem Post

Marikana, where the ANC’s chickens came home to roost By William Bowles

The African National Congress (ANC) won a resounding victory in South Africa’s first democratic election in 1994 with a host of promises that it would improve the lives of the Black majority (85% of the population). And whilst there have been gains in some areas, overall, most Black South Africans are materially worse off now than they were under Apartheid.

Parliament: the mother of all deceptions By William Bowles

30 June 2012 —

There — it sickens one to have to wade through this grimy sea of opportunism. What a spectacle of shuffling, lies, vacillation and imbecility does this Game Political offer to us? I cannot conclude without an earnest appeal to those Socialists, of whatever section, who may be drawn towards the vortex of Parliamentarism, to think better of it while there is yet time. The NHS saved me so now we have to save the NHS!

30 April

A pathetic excuse I know for no new posts but I had a heart attack last week and got out of hospital yesterday. Story to follow coincidentally? the Media Lens piece soon. Not so much on my experiences with the wonderful, beautiful NHS workers who saved my life and took such loving care of me but precisely WHY the NHS is so important, vital and central to all our lives and why we HAVE to save it for all!

Podcast Show #80: The Massive Propaganda on Syria

16 March 2012 —

The Boiling Frogs Presents class=’StrictlyAutoTagBold’>William Bowles

class=’StrictlyAutoTagBold’>William Bowles joins us to discuss the latest on Syria, the massive class=’StrictlyAutoTagBold’>propaganda campaign that has been unleashed on the Western public, and the real motives behind a rapacious imperial power in supporting, encouraging and arming groups like the FSA and the Syrian National Council to wage war on the government. Mr. Bowles  makes the important distinction between armed insurrection and a popular revolution, and talks about the West’s ‘class=’StrictlyAutoTagBold’>Human Rights’ being a malleable notion utilized as a political and ideological weapon to be applied most selectively and discriminately- according to which ‘side’ the government of any particular country happens to be on,  and the phenomenon of the ‘Red Tops’, all written and run by well paid, university trained media professionals who have learned how to communicate their master’s message to its target audience- the working class.

Here is our guest William Bowles unplugged!’StrictlyAutoTagBold’>propaganda-on-syria/
