Portraits from Gaza

Nasser al tatar gaza

Dr. Nasser al-Tatar, the director general of al-Shifa hospital, had been working twenty hours a day since the offensive started on 7 July when I photographed him on 14 July. The previous week, when he took an hour off to go home and break the Ramadan fast with his family, a neighbor came running with a warning that the doctor’s home could be bombed at any moment. “I prayed, ran out with my family to the street and watched my house be destroyed, then I came back to work,” he said, standing on the ruins of what used to be his home and private clinic. Breaking the last taboo – Gaza and the threat of world war By John Pilger

10 September 2014 — John Pilger

“There is a taboo,” said the visionary Edward Said, “on telling the truth about Palestine and the great destructive force behind Israel. Only when this truth is out can any of us be free.”

For many people, the truth is out now. At last, they know. Those once intimidated into silence can’t look away now. Staring at them from their TV, laptop, phone, is proof of the barbarism of the Israeli state and the great destructive force of its mentor and provider, the United States, the cowardice of European governments, and the collusion of others, such as Canada and Australian, in this epic crime.

Israeli army summarily executed fleeing civilians in southern Gaza

6 August 2014 — The Electronic Intifada

Even before a short-lived ceasefire allowed journalists to enter the besieged southern Gaza Strip town of Khuzaa on 1 August, desperate reports of an Israeli massacre — including execution-style shootings — had emerged from survivors who had escaped to nearby Khan Younis.

The Israeli army confirmed today that up to 130 Palestinian civilians were slaughtered in Rafah last Friday following the triggering of the Hannibal protocol – an IDF directive that is designed to thwart the capture of Israeli combatants. Israel unleashed its full firepower and flattened an entire neighbourhood using tanks, artillery and gunships murdering130 Palestinians just to make sure that one Israeli soldier, Lt. [Sometimes the imperialists let a little too much truth slip --NP]

On the Times of Israel article “When Genocide is Permissible”

(Vox full text of deleted article)

The English-language Israeli publication Times of Israel today published, and then quickly deleted, a blog post by the writer Yochanan Gordon with the extremely inflammatory headline “When Genocide is Permissible.” The post does not explicitly endorse the genocide of Palestinians, but it asks if doing so would be morally justified after building up the case it would be and presenting only evidence in the affirmative.
