The Open Rights Group 2019 Lineup

29 April 2019 — Open Rights Group

We are delighted to announce new speakers for our ORGCon 2019 lineup. If you’re yet to get your early bird ticket it isn’t too late – they’re on sale now!

  • UN Special Rapporteur on the Promotion and Protection of the Right to Freedom of Opinion and Expression, David Kaye will be joining us to discuss the state of UK internet regulation and the global landscape of digital censorship.
  • Former Google scientist Jack Poulson, who resigned in protest of the censored search engine Dragonfly, will be talking to us about Dragonfly, state censorship and more.
  • Silkie Carlo, director of civil liberties group Big Brother Watch, will be part of a panel on the use of facial recognition technology in public spaces.
  • Representatives from GCHQ and Facebook will be joining us to discuss strong end-to-end encryption in messaging apps. This technology brings unprecedented privacy and security to the masses but can also be misused, which has led security and intelligence agencies to request circumvention mechanisms.

See our growing list of confirmed speakers including keynote speaker Edward Snowden. ORGCon 2019 this July in London will be a hotbed of debate, discussion and activism. This year will also offer Secret Life Of My Data workshops with Tactical Tech, a CryptoBar, and a showcase of ethically designed Internet of Things products. We will have a series of innovative art installations that give physical form to abstract technology issues as well as live podcast recordings by Machine Learning Ethics and People of Colour in Tech.

We will be announcing the full programme here in May. Get tickets today while early bird discounts are still available. You can also get a free ticket by becoming an ORG member. We can’t wait to see you there.

Best wishes,

Martha Dark
