Directing the Moderate Rebels: Syria as a Digital Age Crucible for Information and Propaganda Warfare

Friday, 1 July 2022 — Internationalist 360°

Ben Arthur Thomason

Syria prop

A decade into Syria’s catastrophe as one of the deadliest wars of the 21st century, we can take greater stock of its effects not just on geopolitics and Syria itself, but on imperial management strategies, information warfare, and popular culture, particularly when considering the interventions by the West and its regional allies. A key pillar of Western imperialist projects next to the hard power of bombs and economic sanctions is the soft power of diplomatic maneuvering, media and cultural imperialism, manufacturing public consent for war, and inventing realities to maintain ideological hegemony. The complementary dialectic between hard and soft power in the US led imperial project in Syria built on historical ventures in Muslim majority countries and evolved propaganda and civil society hybrid warfare strategies that may become foundational for 21st century warfare.

Ukraine – The Bear Caught The Kraken By Using This Trick

Russia is, in my opinion, aiming at taking the pink and yellow parts which have predominantly Russian speaking populations. The most north- western pink oblast is Kharkov which is also the name of the oblast’s main city.

The Revenge of the Malthusians and the Science of Limits

Tuesday, 28 June 2022 — Unlimited Hangout

What are the roots of the technocratic and transhumanist policies currently being pushed onto society? In this essay, Matthew Ehret traces two centuries of British imperial grand strategists who adapted Thomas Malthus’ system of scientific governance of useless eaters in opposition to the deeper creative impulses of the human species.

by Matthew Ehret

Today’s world is faced with two possible future systems. On the one hand, there is a multipolar approach in defense of sovereign nation states premised on long-term thinking, scientific optimism and win-win cooperation stands as one possible outcome; on the other, there is a unipolar paradigm of world government, depopulation and zero-sum thinking.

How Spooks and Establishment Journalists Are Circling The Wagons

Thursday, 30 June 2022 — MintPress News

Jonathan Cook

Analysis — Earlier this month, Russia banned 29 British journalists, including several from the BBC and The Guardian, on the grounds that they were “associated with the defense complex”. That claim was not, at least in all cases, quite as preposterous as was widely assumed.

UK: Roma-Traveller Legislated out of existence!

Friday, 1 July 2022 — Goodlaw Project

The end of UK Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month is a good moment to take stock of the current bleak situation facing these communities. For many years, they have been one of the most marginalised groups in the UK. They face systemic prejudice and discrimination that pervades their children’s education, their family’s medical care, and their community’s traditional nomadic lifestyle.

Europe’s Third Attempt at Suicide and Generation Z+

27 June, 2022 — The Saker

By Batiushka for The Saker Blog

‘The next war in Europe will be between Russia and Fascism, except that Fascism will be called Democracy.’

Fidel Castro, c. 1992

Introduction

Europe is a serial suicide. The first attempt began in Sarajevo in 1914 and finished in Versailles in 1919. The second began a generation later in Warsaw in 1939 and ended in Berlin in 1945. Having very nearly succeeded at the second attempt (it missed atomic bombs by mere months), Europe sobered up and slowed down, waiting till the centenary of 1914 before it tried for the third time. This attempt began in Kiev, again in Eastern Europe, in 2014 and is continuing in the Special Military Operation (SMO). At every attempt Europe has lost. The first time it lost three empires (the Russian, the Austro-Hungarian and the German), the second time two Empires, the fatally weakened British and French, so ensuring the supremacy of the American Empire in Europe, as in the rest of the world.

There are Hungry People. There are Hungry People: The Twenty-Sixth Newsletter (2022)

Thursday, 30 June 2022 — The Tricontinental

Saloua Raouda Chocair Lebanon Chores 1948 768x574Saloua Raouda Choucair (Lebanon), Chores, 1948.

Dear friends,

Greetings from the desk of  Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research.

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) reports that, every minute, a child is pushed into hunger in fifteen countries most ravaged by the global food crisis. Twelve of these fifteen countries are in Africa (from Burkina Faso to Sudan), one is in the Caribbean (Haiti), and two are in Asia (Afghanistan and Yemen). Wars without end have degraded the ability of the state institutions in these countries to manage cascading crises of debt and unemployment, inflation and poverty. Joining the two Asian countries are the states that make up the Sahel region of Africa (especially Mali and Niger), where the levels of hunger are now almost out of control. As if the situation were not sufficiently dire, an earthquake struck Afghanistan last week, killing over a thousand people – yet another devastating blow to a society where 93% of the population has slipped into hunger.

No, NATO Will Not Get Ready For War

NATO to boost troops on high alert to over 300,000 -Stoltenberg

BRUSSELS (Reuters) – NATO will boost the number of troops on high alert by more than sevenfold to over 300,000, its secretary-general said on Monday, as allies prepared to adopt a new strategy describing Moscow as a direct threat four months into the Ukraine war.

US Officially Makes Israel the New Middle Eastern Hegemon

Two years ago, when the Abraham Accords were signed and Donald Trump hailed them as a truly historic moment, there were very few who believed anything substantial could come out of them. Even a US intelligence report of the Department of Homeland Security warned that these pacts could lead to an increase in terrorism. But this has been far from the case. As it stands today, the Biden administration has revamped enthusiasm for a sort of Abraham Accords 2.0., which would extend the Arab-Israel normalisation to Saudi Arabia, the most powerful state in the Arab world.

Behind the Tin Curtain: BRICS+ vs NATO/G7

Tuesday, 28 June 2022 — The Cradle

The west is nostalgically caught up with outdated ‘containment’ policies, this time against Global South integration. Unfortunately for them, the rest of the world is moving on, together.

By Pepe Escobar

Once upon a time, there existed an Iron Curtain which divided the continent of Europe. Coined by former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, the term was in reference to the then-Soviet Union’s efforts to create a physical and ideological boundary with the west. The latter, for its part, pursued a policy of containment against the spread and influence of communism.
