When Will the Building of the Debt Pyramid in Ukraine Come to an End?
11.10.2014 | 00:00 | Valentin KATASONOV
According to expert evaluations, nearly $6 billion has entered Ukraine from various sources (the IMF, the World Bank, the EU, the US) between the time of the February revolution and the end of September. Nearly 95 per cent of this has been spent on debt refinancing. No more than 5 percent has been used for other purposes in some way related to solving the country’s more urgent problems, which is crumbs in comparison. The evil tongues of those who orchestrated the February revolution and found themselves on the sidelines of the revolutionary process are revealing a strange secret. They allege that this five per cent is kickbacks and fund siphoning by the new government. Which means that the total left for ‘national development’ is exactly 0 per cent…
A Game of Scotch Solitaire for Europe (I)
10.10.2014 | 00:00 | Pyotr ISKENDEROV
«Whenever you fall, pick something up» advises a Scottish proverb. That’s a fairly good description of the current state of separatist movements in Europe. Various nooks and crannies of the Old World eagerly followed September’s referendum on self-determination in Scotland. Now many are trying to absorb and apply the methods used by Scottish separatists in order to advance their own interests – just like the Scots, themselves, post-referendum. The deepest reverberations from the events in Scotland were felt in Catalonia where new political skirmishes are rocking a nation already beset by a severe socio-economic crisis…
Is Obama Being Threatened by US Hawks with ‘Security Risks’?
10.10.2014 | 00:00 | Finian CUNNINGHAM
Are a rash of media disclosures showing how President Barack Obama’s personal security has been endangered aimed at intimidating him into toeing the Pentagon’s warpath on Syria and in Ukraine? On the face of it, the disclosures mainly published in the Washington Post have portrayed the presidential Secret Service as bungling and incompetent…
The anti-ISIL «Dream Team»
09.10.2014 | 09:35 | Wayne MADSEN
…Years of coddling the expansionist state of Israel and the Wahhabist princely states of the Persian Gulf have resulted in a totally bankrupt U.S. Middle Eastern policy that has seen a highly-advanced armed forces of a self-proclaimed «Islamic State,» or «caliphate» capture town after town and city after city in Syria and Iraq… There is little doubt that the Israeli Defense Force and the Mossad intelligence agency have actively supported ISIL and its allies, including the Al Nusra Front, in Syria and Iraq… There is also ample evidence that the Saudophile Central Intelligence Agency director John O. Brennan authorized the training of radical Syrian rebels, including those who would later join ISIL, at a secret camp near the desert town of Safawi on the Jordanian side of the Syrian border…

Plight of Romanians and Hungarians in Ukraine
09.10.2014 | 00:00 | Vladislav GULEVICH
The independent Ukraine boasts a rather short history. The relations with minorities have never been a feather in the hat of Kiev authorities. The real state of things was largely muted to make it a smouldering problem. The «national revolution» has exacerbated the situation to the boiling point, especially talking about Hungarians and Romanians…
Fate of Ukraine According to General Plan Ost (I)
08.10.2014 | 00:00 | Yuriy RUBTSOV
On October 3 German Bild reported that Germany is mulling the deployment of 200 soldiers to the eastern part of Ukraine. The paratroopers from Seedorf, Lower Saxony, are to protect and assist monitors from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OCSE)… It should be noted that aside from military exercises this will be the first time German soldiers will be deployed in Ukraine since 1944 (!). Some may believe that the fact is mentioned out of place. They may say that it were the troops of Hitler’s Germany that the Red Army pushed away from Ukraine, but now we’re talking about the military of a democratic state coming as peacekeepers. The denazification of Germany was a success and is a thing of the past now. Taking into consideration the literally touching support of the Kiev regime by Merkel’s government, there is some ground for taking a different point of view…
The Middle East Imbroglio Brought on by the Neocons
08.10.2014 | 00:00 | Wayne MADSEN
In the past few days, U. S. President Joe Biden has been forced to apologize to two foreign leaders for telling the truth. Biden suggested at a forum at Harvard that Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and other so-called U.S. allies, directly enabled the rise of the Islamic State or the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). In answer to a question from an audience, Biden replied, «…when it came to Syria and the effort to bring down President Bashar Assad there, those allies’ [Turkey, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Qatar] policies wound up helping to arm and build allies of al Qaeda and eventually the terrorist ‘Islamic State.’» Biden was forced to apologize to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for telling the truth…
Presidential Race in Brazil: Neoliberals in a Bid to Get Revenge
07.10.2014 | 15:02 | Nil NIKANDROV
The pre-election campaign in Brazil has become even more sharply contested after the first round of vote on October 5. Marina Silva supported by Washington and the opponents of the incumbent President had to leave the race with only 21,3 % of votes. Dilma Rousseff, the left-wing Workers Party candidate (41,1 %) will face off Aécio Neves, the candidate from the Brazilian Social Democracy Party (33,7 %), in the run-off election on October 26. The candidates face an uphill battle. Neves is supported by US and West European information agencies. He opposes the policy that has been implemented during the recent 12 years by the ruling Workers Party…
German Sovereignty Has Limited Wiggle Room Left

…RWE DEA AG is an international oil and gas company headquartered in Hamburg, Germany. It is a subsidiary of RWE. The group went on sale being burdened by 31 billion euro debt. In March the German Economics Ministry approved the sale of the oil and natural gas to an investment holding vehicle of Russian entrepreneur Mikhail Fridman. His LetterOne was chosen not for political reasons but because Mr. Fridman offered to pay 5,1 billion euros more in comparison with the price offered by Canadian bidders or German BASF. But the RWE’s sale of its DEA unit hit snags in the U.K. British regulators were said to oppose the deal and ready to revoke DEA ‘s offshore drilling licenses for British gas fields. The London’s threat was an argument to reckon with…
Ukraine to Go Nuclear or Last Resort of Ukraine’s Defence Chief
07.10.2014 | 00:00 | Arkady DZIUBA
Some time ago Valeriy Heletey, the Ukraine’s Minister of Defence, made another scoop saying Russia threatened Ukraine with the use of tactical nuclear weapons. If the United States and Great Britain along with other NATO member-states don’t start arms deliveries to Ukraine, then Kiev will have no other choice but launch a military nuclear program of its own aimed at restoring the nuclear power status. And nuclear Ukraine will not be a state to mess around with, he let it be understood unequivocally… The very fact that the nuclear issue has come into focus cannot be explained only by pre-election heat and the Heletey’s unstable position. Some groups of Ukrainian nationalists have been dreaming about nuclear weapons since a long time ago…
Nuland Lands in Kiev as US-backed Regime Tools Up for War
07.10.2014 | 00:00 | Finian CUNNINGHAM
In an ominous sign that the war in Ukraine is set to further escalate, US state department official Victoria Nuland arrived in Kiev where she met with senior members of the Western-backed regime. In recent days the ceasefire brokered on September 5 has come under intense pressure as Kiev military forces have stepped up their barrage of the eastern city of Donetsk, with several civilian casualties reported almost on a daily basis…
Transatlantic Solidarity: Connivance at Blackmail. Differences between Russia and EU
06.10.2014 | 00:00 | Olga SHEDROVA
On October 1, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso sent a letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Its content showed once more that Brussels still continues to use the language of ultimatums while talking to Russia. The European Union inflicts damage on itself by refusing to see that Ukraine constantly violates its commitments… Balanced Russia-Europe agreements could be a way out of the deadlock. They should address monitoring Ukrainian gas transit, cooperation in development of pipeline network, coordination and mutual understanding on the implementation of the association agreement with Ukraine. Is Europe ready for that? Or the «transatlantic solidarity» would prevail entailing another round of confrontation on the European continent?
Europe Awaits a Bitter Winter’s Tale
06.10.2014 | 00:00 | Finian CUNNINGHAM
…Last week the EU leadership in Brussels decided against lifting trade sanctions it had previously imposed on Russia. The sanctions were imposed after Crimea’s referendum in March this year led to the reunification of the Ukrainian southern peninsula with Russia… Vladimir Putin described the EU sanctions as «utter folly»… Utter folly indeed. European sanctions have been met with counter-sanctions from Russia, which have in turn banned a wide range of agricultural produce… Europe’s budget deficit crisis is going to scream as winter proceeds, with crops left rotting in fields and some 10 million farmers marooned without income… Then there is the vital issue of natural gas supplies. EU energy commissioner Guenther Oettinger has made the crassly naive comment that Russia should not «politicise gas supplies». So, let’s get this straight Herr Oettinger, it’s perfectly acceptable for the EU so slap on unwarranted financial and industrial sanctions on Russia, but it is, in your view, completely unacceptable for Russia to cut off gas supplies to Europe?.. Washington and its fascist Kiev ideologues may be gloating at the deepening crisis, but what about the 500 million ordinary EU citizens, who will suffer this winter because of idiotic decision-making?..
Finnish Word ?aalaisjarki Means Common Sense in English
05.10.2014 | 00:00 | Vladimir NESTEROV
In response to Washington-inspired sanctions imposed by the West Russia banned food products from the European Union, the United States, Australia, Canada and Norway… Having become hostages of the EU myopic policy, European companies lose profits and have to fire their employees to fill the ranks of European unemployed. Valio, a Finnish dairy producer, is a good example. Recently it has announced one more round of job cuts… Esa Luomanperä, a joint stock company director, warned about problems to emerge in case export is stopped. In Finnish maalaisjarki does not exactly mean common sense. The word has a special meaning hard to convey with the help of literal translation. It is related to the notion of reasonable thinking and practical wisdom – a kind of pragmatic mentality typical for peasants. Maalaisjarki is what Esa Luomanperä alludes to when he says that Western politicians should be able to look ahead a bit, «The ongoing trade war is like a chess game. And it takes two to play chess»…
Estonia: Doomed Without Russia
05.10.2014 | 00:00 | Pyotr ISKENDEROV
…EU members assess the damage inflicted as a consequence of the Brussels’ anti-Russia steps taken against the background of gloomy economic forecasts. Estonia is to suffer most as a result of this dubious policy. The damage to agricultural sector hit by Russia’s retaliatory measures is significant enough for this small country. Complying with instructions received from Washington and Brussels the Estonian economy has lost 38,7% of cheese and curds market or $ 36,1 million of profits, 16, 7% of milk and sour milk ($19, 3 million), 21, 9% of frozen fish ($17, 7 million). The Estonian producers have lost 40, 1% ($7, 3million) of yogurt, kefir and other milk and fermented milk products’ market. The demand for lactoserum fell by 18, 4%, as a result the Estonian budget was deprived of $2, 5 million. Estonia has lost 13% of pork market ($5, 1 million)…
