Afghanistan Faces Uncertain Future (III)

18.10.2014 | 11:54 | Melkulangara BHADRAKUMAR

The outgoing Afghan President Hamid Karzai used his national address in office before leaving the presidential palace to warn the new government headed by Ashraf Ghani that the ongoing violence in Afghanistan provided a convenient excuse for the US to maintain its bases in the country. «My advice to the next government is to be very careful with America and the West», Karzai cautioned in his speech…

Washington Admits: FSA Equals Fictitious Syrian Army

18.10.2014 | 00:00 | Finian CUNNINGHAM

US President Barack Obama hosted a top-level war council this past week in Washington with the military leaders from 21 countries in attendance – under the official remit of coordinating tactics to defeat the Islamic State extremist group in Syria and Iraq… Washington is confirming that there is no such thing as a moderate rebel force in Syria. But what Washington and its fellow state terrorist sponsors are doing is throwing $500 million into a project of creating the semblance of «a credible field force». This creation will then give Western powers and its Arab allies a legitimacy to escalate their criminal covert war for regime change in Syria…

New ?racks in the anti-Russian Front

17.10.2014 | 10:15 | Pyotr ISKENDEROV

The anti-Russian colours that the policies of the European Commission and the US administration are painted in regarding the introduction of economic sanctions against Russia are slowly losing their lustre and beginning to peel off. Within the European Union there are pockets of internal resistance to the anti-Russian policy that are particularly noticeable against the feverish attempts by Brussels to force Serbia and other countries, where the mirage of joining the EU still seems to be a bit like reaching the Promised Land, to join in with the sanctions…

Events in Hong Kong and US Fight for Dollar

17.10.2014 | 00:00 | Olga SHEDROVA

An attempt to launch a classic «orange coup» in Hong Kong has become unexpected for many. Washington is simultaneously involved in the war in Ukraine, «sanctions» stand-off with Moscow and combat actions against the Islamic State. Looks like the time is wrong for exacerbating tensions with China. But that’s what the United States did… Washington is not hiding its intent to undermine the stability in China. Like if repeating the very same stuff he said about Ukraine, John Kerry called on Beijing to display restraint towards the protesters and let them peacefully express their opinion. Once again blocking administrative buildings is called peaceful actions while the activities of the government aimed at establishing law and order are called violence…

President Putin’s Welcomed Redefinition of International Human Rights

17.10.2014 | 00:00 | Wayne MADSEN

Russian President Vladimir Putin has redefined the cause of international human rights to include the concept of «collective human rights». Putin rightly argues that in addition to individual human rights, which are being used by various special interests to advance such «boutique causes» as rights got lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transsexuals, pedophiles [as seen recently by the German Green Party’s defense of members of Green Party-run pedophile communes], groups of people have the right to protect their social, religious, linguistic, and cultural identities against forces that seek to undermine such distinctions…

Liberate Belgrade!

16.10.2014 | 01:22 | Yuriy RUBTSOV

The events of recent days show the European Union is concerned over the upcoming visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Belgrade. What if he takes Serbia away? Some Serbian media outlets have even rebuked the government for «reshaping the historic calendar». The big military parade to mark the 70th anniversary of Serbian capital’s liberation from Nazi Germany’s forces is scheduled to take place on the very day of the Russian President’s visit… It’s quite understandable that the forces exerting pressure on Belgrade to make it join anti-Russia sanctions support the neo-Nazi regime in Kiev. In October 1944 the Soviet and Yugoslav soldiers fought the enemy together under the slogan «Liberate Belgrade!» It won’t be a surprise if this call will be heard again.

Pin-Prick Air Strikes Won’t Defeat Islamic State

16.10.2014 | 00:00 | Nikolai BOBKIN

The US fight against Sunni terrorist group called the Islamic State may turn into a full-fledged war… Republican Senator John McCain, a ranking member of the Senate, said the strategy was failing. «They’re winning and we’re not,» McCain said on CNN. «Pin-prick bombing is not working». McCain is right – the impact is limited, some military express skepticism over the efficiency of the ongoing air campaign… No matter massive air strikes delivered by the US-led coalition, the Islamic State keeps on expanding the territory under its control in Iraq and Syria…

Polish Chasteners in Ukraine

15.10.2014 | 00:00 | Nikolai MALISHEVSKI

A protest action against the participation of Polish soldiers and mercenaries in combat actions in Ukraine occurred on October 4 near the parliament building in Warsaw. Participants held flags of Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s republics. They carried placards with slogans: ‘«,Stop Bandera «Stop supporting Banderites. We remember Volyn!», «No to Polish soldiers participation in NATO military operation in Ukraine!»… The participation of Poles in the Ukrainian crisis has many aspects, including the training of nationalist militants, the participation of mercenaries hired by Polish private contractors in the combat actions in Donbass, the weapons supplies to the Ukraine’s regime and the formation of joint Polish-Lithuanian-Ukrainian brigade – LITPOLUKRBRIG…

Pirouetting Poroshenko and the Kiev Nutcracker Suite

15.10.2014 | 00:00 | Finian CUNNINGHAM

Well, admittedly, Kiev’s president Petro Poroshenko, the former Candy King, is carrying a bit of excess bodyweight, but nevertheless his swivelling statements and actions of late show that his ability for pirouetting is as agile as the finest ballet dancer. It’s a talent that the entire Western-backed coup regime in Kiev shares too. This troupe of demagogues and rogues is more than capable of executing the most outlandish claims and swirling contradictions, plus explosive spontaneous movements that can take the observer’s breath away…

Russia – Serbia Relations through Prism of 70 Years

14.10.2014 | 00:00 | Pyotr ISKENDEROV

Russian President Vladimir Putin is to visit Serbia on October 16. This is an event of outstanding importance for finally defining the pattern of the bilateral relationship. The visit should emphasize the strategic level of cooperation and doom the attempts of some Western circles to distance Serbia from Russia… The Russian President’s press-service emphasizes the concrete historic background of the visit and the current state of things. It says, «The President of Russia will take part in celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Belgrade from Nazi occupation». Besides, «Talks with Tomislav Nikolic and conversations with Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic are to focus on key issues of bilateral cooperation, primarily in trade and the economy», Putin’s office said…

Hong Kong: Fathers and Children

14.10.2014 | 00:00 | Alexander SALITZKI

The Hong Kong (Xi?ngg?ng) unrest spilled over to the central streets of the city on September 28-29 to immediately hit Western media radar screen. The movement was dubbed «the umbrella revolution» in turgid political style… The painted image of fighters for democracy against the totalitarian regime in Beijing (the event was compared to the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989) stood out for theatrical effectiveness… Beijing made it clear it won’t stand for interference into its internal affairs, including the support for anti-nationalist sentiments and organizers of protests. In the period of late September – early October Hong Kong became a testing ground for committing the nefarious deed of mixing notions: pro-American is painted as democratic while whatever is democratic is painted as anti-Chinese.

Afghanistan Faces Uncertain Future (II)

13.10.2014 | 10:35 | Melkulangara BHADRAKUMAR

Writing on the subject of «foreign troops» a few months ago, the well known Guardian columnist and editor Seumas Milne observed, «It’s almost never discussed in the political mainstream. But thousands of foreign troops have now been stationed in Britain for more than 70 years. There’s been nothing like it since the Norman invasion. With the 15-month Dutch occupation of London in 1688-89 a distant competitor, there has been no precedent since 1066 for the presence of American forces in a string of military bases for the better part of a century»… This is also the most intriguing question that no one is prepared to answer regarding the US-Afghan pact, known popularly as the Bilateral Security Agreement or the BSA, which was signed in Kabul on September 30. What explains the long-term military presence of a superpower on foreign soil?..

Israel’s ISIL

13.10.2014 | 00:00 | Wayne MADSEN

The scourge known as the «Islamic» State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), also known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Sham (ISIS) and the Islamic State (IS), has long been in the making: in the think tanks and military planning offices of Israel. The plan to have a group like ISIL rend apart the Arab nation-states of the Middle East is enshrined in two Israeli policies: «A Strategy for Israel in the Nineteen Eighties» written in 1982 by former Israeli Foreign Ministry official Oded Yinon and «A Clean Break: A New Strategy for Securing the Realm», largely written American neo-conservative war hawk Richard Perle for Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and issued in 1996…

Fate of Ukraine According to General Plan Ost (II)

12.10.2014 | 00:00 | Yuriy RUBTSOV

…The secret document called the General Plan Ost was submitted to Himmler on July 15, 1941. It included the relocation of 80-85% of the Poland’s population and 50% of the population of the Czech Republic. Besides, in 25-30 years it was planned to deport the native populations of the following countries: Lithuania – 85%, Belarus – 75%, West Ukraine – 65%, Latvia and Estonia – 50%. Overall at least 31 million people out of 45 million, who resided in the lands destined for German colonization, were to be deported or exterminated, they were considered to be unwanted people belonging to wrong races… The Russian people, meaning not only ethnic Russians but also other East European peoples making up the population of the Soviet Union, were given special attention by Nazi…

A Panorama of the World’s Foreign Exchange Reserves: Food for Thought

12.10.2014 | 00:00 | Valentin KATASONOV

…Without waiting for the IMF to grant the yuan reserve currency status (the IMF wants China to introduce full yuan convertibility and make it free floating), a number of African, Asian and Latin American countries are stockpiling it in their reserves. At the beginning of 2012, experts believe that the yuan was to be found in the international reserves of 12 countries. To date, the People’s Bank of China has signed currency swap agreements with the central banks of more than 20 countries. These agreements involve the exchange of national currency units to maintain trade and economic relations between China and other countries…
