Gold: Back to Money World (II)

27.04.2013 | 00:00 | Valentin KATASONOV

There are two interpretations of the reasons behind the military intervention against Libya – the defense of human rights and the desire to grab the Gaddafi’s oil. Both are wrong. The real reason is the fact, that Colonel Gaddafi was brave enough to follow the example of General De Gaulle. He tried to bring into life the idea of getting away from paper money in favor of gold standard. By doing so he threatened the owners of printing press or, in other words, the major share owners of the private company under the name of the US Federal Reserve System…

The Ties That Bind Washington to Chechen Terrorists

26.04.2013 | 00:00 | Wayne MADSEN

To scan the list of major American supporters of the Chechen secessionist movement, which at some points can hardly be distinguished from Chechen terrorists financed by U.S. allies Saudi Arabia and Qatar, is to be reminded of some of the most notorious U.S. Cold War players. Evidence is mounting that the accused dead Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev, allegedly killed during an April 19 shootout with police in Watertown, Massachusetts, became a «radicalized» Muslim while participating in a covert CIA program, run through the Republic of Georgia, to destabilize Russia’s North Caucasus region…

EU Membership: Kneel to Join

26.04.2013 | 00:00 | Natalia MEDEN

…The speedy recognition of former Yugoslavia republics could be construed as the result of defeat, suffered by socialist camp in the Cold War, and as the enforcement of classical «divide and rule». If Yugoslavia remained one, the West could not impose its conditions on it, like it is being done in case of Serbia. Junge Welt, the opposition voice, remembers the shocking call of former German Foreign Minister Joschka Fisher for making Serbia stand on its knees. Now the Serbs kneel to acquire the European Union membership. No doubt, the West will put forward new demands…

Gold: Back to Money World (I)

25.04.2013 | 00:00 | Valentin KATASONOV

Many statesmen do understand that the days, or perhaps, years, of the dollar based world financial system existence are counted. Once all national monetary systems are interconnected with the US currency, the time is ripe to prepare for future changes. For instance, different schemes of internal money circulation, based on gold standard, are being studied. In recent years, we constantly hear about the plans to establish a gold dinar (Muslim states), gold yuan (China), and gold frank (Switzerland). Some states leaders start to talk about returning gold into internal circulation. For instance, the idea has been supported in Sweden, Norway, South Africa, South Korea, Iran, Taiwan, Zimbabwe and some Latin American countries… In the USA the «monetary sovereignty parades» movement is in full swing at the states level. The state of Utah is the leader. In 2011 it adopted and enforced the law to legalize gold and silver coins as money…

Russian Caucasus in Focus of US «Terror Fighters»

25.04.2013 | 00:00 | Dmitry NEFEDOV

As the first agitation caused by Boston marathon event is coming down, the question of what really happened is coming to the fore. Internet users were attentive enough to pay attention to the fact that some pictures were clearly a part of staged show. But these voices are barely heard as yet. Looks like a consensus is reached on making precise what the occurrence was. The definition is imposed on the world. Some recall the euphemism of anti-terror coalition…

US Pressure Cooker

24.04.2013 | 00:00 | Dmitriy SEDOV

…The United States is leaving Afghanistan. It’s a dishonorable pull out, no victory achieved. These are the times the country’s military expenditure is down. Accustomed to get big profits, the financial and military-industrial circles are dissatisfied. They want more and they want it now. They have put all the needed ingredients into the US pressure cooker and are cooking up a new dish. Does it mean a new war tomorrow?

UN: Serbia Makes Breakthrough

23.04.2013 | 00:00 | Alexander MEZYAEV

On April 10 the United Nations General Assembly held its first ever and rather unique debate on the role of the international criminal justice system in fostering reconciliation. It summed up and assessed the twenty year experience of international criminal courts and tribunals activities. The hearings were boycotted by some states, like, for instance, the United States of America, Canada and Jordan. Jordanian UN envoy said that the fact of holding the debates was, allegedly, an example of power abuse on the part of President of General Assembly.  This time the President of the Assembly session was Vuk Jeremić from Serbia, former Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs…

Pakistan Elections: Musharraf Operation Failed

22.04.2013 | 00:00 | Dmitry MININ

…Washington is not concealing its concern over the outcome of the presidential race in Pakistan. The election is slated for May 11. According to the Washington-based Center for Strategic and International Studies, “With the United States heavily invested in the withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2014, the next Pakistani government will be vital to upholding U.S. interests in the region.” It’s not only the situation in Afghanistan that is at stake, but also the control over the nuclear potential…

Boomerang Effect – 2

22.04.2013 | 00:00 | Dmitriy SEDOV

The perpetrators of the Boston tragedy are known. According to official reports, they are the Tsarnaev brothers of Chechen origin… The veterans of two Chechen wars, who left Russia after 2001, exert efforts to make the Chechen young people in the West acquire an image of reckless terrorists… Let’s remember Akhmed Zakaev, who lives in Great Britain… Zakaev is a hero among young Chechen emigrants, as well as Movladi Udugov… These are the ones who educate the new generation of people taught to hate Russia. It’s one of the reasons not to give them away, so that they would face justice. It’s not easy to conduct activities on Russian soil, so they are looking for some other ways… Now the terrorist boomerang is back to America…

U.S. Government-supported Election Interference

22.04.2013 | 00:00 | Wayne MADSEN

The International Foundation of Electoral Systems (IFES) is a Cold War «non-governmental organization» remnant that continues its mission of certifying elections as fair and free only when U.S.-backed candidates win. Conversely, when U.S.-backed candidates and political parties lose, IFES is part of the international coalition of NGOs, many of which are financially backed by hedge fund tycoon George Soros, which organizes massive protests and calls for sanctions. The latter scenario is now playing out in Venezuela…

Mediterranean: Winds of Change (II)

21.04.2013 | 00:00 | Andrei AKULOV

After a long period, Moscow has returned to the Mediterranean as a sea power. In 2011 it conducted a naval exercise exceeding in scope any training activity since the days of the Soviet Union. The last large-scale drill took place in January 2013 and involved over 20 combat surface ships and submarines from three operational fleets… On February 26 a subsidiary of Russian energy giant Gazprom signed a 20-year deal with Levant LNG Marketing Corp. to exclusively purchase liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Israel’s Tamar offshore gas field in the Mediterranean. Gazprom wants to build up its LNG trading business to diversify away from traditional European customers receiving natural gas via pipelines…

Give North Korea some respect

20.04.2013 | 15:07 | Finian CUNNINGHAM

…Rather than pressurizing North Korea to accede to petulant American demands, Beijing and Moscow should insist that Washington play by the same standard rules for everyone. That means, among other things, Washington making a mutual commitment to withdraw its nuclear forces from the Korean Peninsula and respecting the sovereignty of the DPRK with a full peace treaty. Washington needs to be told that the days of it playing geopolitics-poker in the manner of a Wild West saloon, under its own bent rules, are well and truly over…
