The Purpose of the Sanctions Is to Breakup Relations Between Europe and Russia
13.09.2014 | 09:58 | Paul Craig ROBERTS
The new sanctions announced by Washington and Europe don’t seem to make much sense. I would be surprised if Russian oil and military industries were dependent on European capital markets in a meaningful way. The Russian companies should be able to secure adequate financing from Russian Banks or from the Russian government. If foreign loans are needed, Russia can borrow from China. If critical Russian industries are dependent on European capital markets, the sanctions will help Russia by forcing an end to this debilitating dependence. Russia should not be dependent on the West in any way…
Why London Fears Scottish Independence
13.09.2014 | 00:00 | Finian CUNNINGHAM
The pro-independent Scotland campaign has gained the momentum to win as Scots go to a referendum next week to decide on whether the country will secede from the United Kingdom… The secession of Scotland will place the center-right Conservatives into sharper competition with the more rightwing UK Independence Party (UKIP), which has risen dramatically in recent polls to upend the three main parties. The vociferously anti-European Union UKIP wants Britain to quit the EU altogether over grievances of immigration and alleged infringement of sovereignty by Brussels… Another factor that the London establishment is having deep misgivings over is the issue of North Sea oil and gas. Scottish independence would see 90 per cent of all future tax revenues being directed to Edinburgh rather than London since most of the oil and gas fields will lie within Scottish maritime territory…
Obama Launches His War, Finally
12.09.2014 | 00:00 | Melkulangara BHADRAKUMAR
The United States President Barack Obama unveiled in a major speech on Wednesday his strategy to «degrade and ultimately destroy» the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. The strategy has no timeline and, quintessentially, the US will pit Muslims against Muslims in a grim war through the deployment of ‘smart power’… Obama’s presidency has come full circle by reinventing the neocon dogmas it once professed to reject. On the pretext of fighting the IS, which the US and its allies created in the first instance, what is unfolding is a massive neocon project to remold the Muslim Middle East to suit the US’ geopolitical objectives. Call it by whatever name, it is an imperial war – albeit with a Nobel as commander-in-chief.
CIA-Supported Candidate Runs for Presidency in Brazil
12.09.2014 | 00:00 | Nil NIKANDROV
The US relationship with Brazil has worsened recently as a result of eavesdropping scandal. The US National Security Agency (NSA) spied on Dilma Rousseff and the members of her cabinet. The Brazilian President… has condemned the NSA and CIA activities in Latin America and taken steps to enhance communications safety and tighten control over US representatives working in the country. It provoked exasperation on the part of Barack Obama. The presidential election in Brazil is slated for October 5. Washington wants to make Dilma Rousseff a one term president. US special services launched a campaign aimed at getting rid of the current Brazilian leader…
Georgia Boosts Cooperation with NATO
11.09.2014 | 09:19 | Vyacheslav MIKHAILOV
The NATO summit adopted a significant aid package to Georgia to pave the way for full-fledged membership. The country did not receive the MAP (Membership Action Plan). But it goes on to boost the cooperation. For instance, a new NATO military training center is to be built and some exercises of the alliance are to be held on Georgian soil. The NATO liaison office will have more functions to carry out. The NATO summit final declaration says the measures are aimed at enhancing the Georgia’s military capability and interoperability with the alliance…
St. Andrew’s Flag Flown over Scotland and Donetsk
11.09.2014 | 00:00 | Dmitry MININ
That’s the way the history goes. The St. Andrew’s flag is flown in two places in Europe situated at great distance from each other. Scotland and Novorossia are struggling for their national identity under the same colors. The two peoples divided by different history and cultures are addressing the issue of independence. They are going different ways; a peaceful referendum is to take place in Scotland while Novorossia is going through the horrors of civil war. But they are united by the same goal and its symbol – the St. Andrew flag…
9/11 After 13 years
10.09.2014 | 12:00 | Paul Craig ROBERTS
The tragedy of September 11, 2001, goes far beyond the deaths of those who died in the towers and the deaths of firefighters and first responders who succumbed to illnesses caused by inhalation of toxic dust. For thirteen years a new generation of Americans has been born into the 9/11 myth that has been used to create the American warfare/police state… The 9/11 lie has persisted for 13 years. Millions of Muslims have paid for this lie with their lives, the destruction of their families, and with their dislocation. Most Americans remain comfortable with the fact that their government has destroyed in whole or part seven countries based on a lie Washington told to cover up an inside job that launched the crazed neoconservatives’ drive for Washington’s World Empire.
London’s Devious Plans for Scotland’s Independence Referendum
10.09.2014 | 09:54 | Wayne MADSEN
There are credible reports that the British government, which includes the Conservative and Liberal Democratic parties, as well as the Labor opposition, have colluded with the British media to downplay in articles, news broadcasts, and published opinion polls the actual strength of the pro-independence “Yes” campaign in Scotland… For example, a few months ago, the British government instructed the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in a confidential document to undermine at every opportunity the Yes vote… There is a strong belief that other British networks and newspapers, including Rupert Murdoch’s Sky News and the Times of London, received the same instruction and obediently carried it out…
WWIII aimed to redraw map of Russia?
10.09.2014 | 00:00 | Mahdi Darius NAZEMROAYA
…Dmytro Sinchenko published an article on September 8, 2014 about dividing Russia. His article titled «Waiting for World War III: How the World Will Change»… Sinchenko’s article starts by talking about the history of the «Axis of Evil» phrase that the US has used to vilify its enemies. It talks about how George W. Bush Jr. coined the phrase in 2002 by grouping Iraq, Iran, and North Korea together, how John Bolton expanded the Axis of Evil to include Cuba, Libya, and Syria, how Condoleezza Rice include Belarus, Zimbabwe, and Myanmar (Burma), and then finally he proposes that Russia be added to the list as the world’s main pariah state… He goes on to accuse Russia of planning to invade the Baltic States, the Caucasus, Moldova, Finland, Poland… This fiction is not something that has been reported in the US-aligned corporate networks, but is something that has been published directly by US government-owned media. The forecast was published by the Ukrainian service of Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty… Accompanying the article are also two maps that outline the redrawn Eurasian space and the shape of the world after the destruction of Russia…
The Ukraine Crisis Remains Unresolved
09.09.2014 | 09:37 | Paul Craig ROBERTS
To a military strategist the Russian response to the trouble that Washington has caused Russia in Ukraine, longer a part of Russia than the US has existed, is a mystery… Washington’s strategic goals go beyond NATO membership for Ukraine. One goal is to break apart the economic and political relationships between Europe and Russia… Another Washington goal is to build up military forces on Russia’s borders… The American neoconservatives, a deranged collection of scum that comprises the greatest threat to human life in world history, are denouncing Obama for “weakness” for not sending troops to Ukraine. The neocon nazis claim that Obama’s leadership has resulted in NATO loosing its will and its muscle. It remains for the Russian government to demonstrate that all muscle over Ukraine and Europe resides in Moscow.
«Welcome for Scottish Will Stand Being True to the Scottish Flag…»
09.09.2014 | 00:00 | Vladimir NESTEROV
The Scottish independence referendum is slated for September 18. The issue was initiated in 2007 by Alex Salmond, the leader of the Scottish National Party. Back then his party received majority in the Scottish parliament to make him First Minister of Scotland. In May 2011 he announced the intention to hold a referendum on independence. He used ideology, history and legal grounds to perfectly substantiate the idea. London could not prevent the plebiscite. The only thing British Prime Minister David Cameron could do was to call for «Nay» vote…
Ukraine: Truce Reached, What Next?
08.09.2014 | 00:01 | Olga SHEDROVA
The armistice reached by contact group on September 5 in Minsk was the first peace initiative reached in Ukraine to be accepted by all parties. It’s a very positive move but there is a slim chance the ceasefire would endure… The ceasefire was breached in Gorlovka, Makeevka and street fighting took place in Dzerzhinsk. As of midnight, Sept. 6, the Ukrainian government forces opened fire at Makeevka with dense smoke seen coming from mine N88. According to witnesses’ reports, artillery fire was heard in the Petropavlovsk district of Donetsk. The ability of Poroshenko to control «private armies» is questioned… The people of Ukraine are subject to militaristic propaganda and calls for bloodshed are heard here and there. Anti-European rhetoric is also getting stronger along with the calls for making short work of «Kremlin’s agents» and «traitors». On September 5 protesters in Kiev demanded to stop the transit of Russian gas to Europe…
NATO Summit: Look at Results
08.09.2014 | 00:00 | Arkady DZIUBA
The NATO Wales summit is an important event for the relationship between Russia and the West. It wound up with controversial results… Now what we have? The United States finds it more difficult to make NATO take the desired decisions. There is a wide gap between the US and Europe’s interests. The crisis in Ukraine has become an acid test. It does not mean America will not meddle into Ukraine, especially as Obama comes under Republican pressure. The United States will be looking for other ways to interfere along with loyal allies and some post-Soviet states – Georgia and Moldova. The Islamists should not be turned a blind eye on. The Islamic factor will be used against Russia in Crimea and the Caucasus…
NATO Sabotage on Order for Ukraine Ceasefire
07.09.2014 | 00:00 | Finian CUNNINGHAM
The ceasefire was announced last Friday in the Belarus capital of Minsk after earnest discussions between the Trilateral Contact Group of Kiev envoys, independence leaders, and the Russian government. The deal was brokered by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) and was given impetus by a seven-point peace plan drawn up by Russian President Vladimir Putin… The crucial factor, however, for a viable political settlement is how the United States and European Union respond. Unfortunately, that factor does not bode well…
