Hamas announced early Wednesday that Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the Palestinian faction’s political wing, was assassinated in Tehran, where he was present for the inauguration of the new Iranian president.
The assassination of a senior Palestinian national leader, in Iran no less, marks a major escalation that will likely have regional ramifications. It came hours after Israel bombed Beirut on Tuesday evening, killing three civilians. Israel claimed that it killed a senior Hizballah figure in the strike, but the Lebanese resistance group has not confirmed that.
We’ll be discussing all the latest developments on today’s livestream.
Our guest will be Ilan Pappe, professor of history and co-director of the European Centre for Palestine Studies at the University of Exeter in the UK. His new book is Lobbying for Zionism on Both Sides of the Atlantic, published by Oneworld.
Jon Elmer will cover all the latest resistance news across multiple fronts in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon.
Please join Nora Barrows-Friedman, Ali Abunimah, Asa Winstanley, Jon and Tamara Nassar for all this and more.
