Security for anti-fascist organising

Tuesday, 6 August 2024 — NetPol

The current wave of fascist street protests taking place across England and Wales have been met by huge resistance. Communities have come together to protect local sites housing asylum seekers, places of worship, and their neighbours homes and businesses.

Taking part in anti-fascist organising risks violence and intimidation not just from the police, but from far-right groups who have been known to ‘dox’ counter-protesters, posting their photos and personal information online.

We’ve put together some key advice for anyone taking action this week to oppose the far right. Here’s what you can do to keep yourself and your friends safer:

  • Please read and share this key safety advice in your networks. You can also find it on Instagram and Twitter / X.
  • Make sure you take steps to protect your privacy in person and online; there’s more on this in the key safety advice document.
  • Remember there’s safety in numbers. Make sure you travel to and from protests with friends.
  • Learn the five key messages when going on a protest! Green and Black Cross have also put together a legal briefing on powers commonly used at anti-fascist demonstrations.
  • Carry a bustcard. Find your local one here.

Solidarity to everyone out on the streets this week, and stay safe.
