President Trump, our ersatz “anti-war candidate,” has chosen to escalate U.S. airstrikes in Yemen, bombing some of the poorest people on Earth while squandering vast sums on obscenely expensive naval air operations. Such is America’s way, it seems. Rather than leveraging diplomatic and economic pressure to compel Israel to facilitate aid access—thereby halting Houthi retaliation and restoring freedom of navigation for the global supply chain—Donald “Art of the Deal” Trump is exploiting this moment to isolate the Houthis from Iran’s weakened Axis of Resistance. His apparent aim? To force them into accepting terms more favorable to the U.S. in a future Nuclear Deal.
