- Despite US voters hoping the incoming Trump administration will end America’s wars abroad, citing apparent interest in divesting in Ukraine as proof of change to come, President-elect Trump and his vice president pick JD Vance have vowed even while campaigning to shift US attention overseas from Ukraine to a much larger and more dangerous confrontation with China;
- US confrontation with China has been unfolding for decades with the incoming Trump administration continuing policies inherited from both the Biden and Obama administrations;
- The US maintains 10,000s of troops in arc along China’s shores in South Korea, Japan, and the Philippines, closer to Chinese territory than to US shores on the other side of the Pacific Ocean;
- During the Biden administration, the US military has been transformed for combat specifically with China and will be standing by just as a Trump administration begins America’s pivot from Ukraine toward the Asia-Pacific;
