Donald Trump flies to the UK later this week, and he’s bringing a long list of demands from his US Big Tech allies with him. He’s even bringing some US Big Tech billionaires along – and reports say they will push for yet more polluting data centres to be built, without a thought for the harm to our environment.
We know Keir Starmer is desperate to keep Trump on side, and the UK government has already shown itself far too eager to please US Big Tech. So there’s a real risk that Trump’s UK visit will mean Starmer makes yet more dangerous promises to Silicon Valley.
We need to do everything we can to sound the alarm and show Starmer the public don’t want this. Please can you sign this urgent petition, telling Starmer not to promise Trump yet more giveaways to US Big Tech?
| SIGN THE PETITION |
Donald Trump has made pushing the interests of US Big Tech firms a key priority of his presidency. When he arrives in London, we can expect him to make demands such as:
- Make it even easier for US Big Tech to build massive data centres, across the UK, with huge costs to our water and energy supplies and to our environment
- Hand Big Tech firms a tax cut worth hundreds of millions of pounds, by scrapping the UK’s Digital Services Tax which was designed to ensure big multinational tech firms pay their fair share
Donald Trump’s presidency makes Foxglove’s work to challenge the size and power of Big Tech companies more urgent than ever. Trump’s close links to US Big Tech billionaires, and use of their technology to serve his authoritarian agenda, is a chilling illustration of the dangers of unaccountable tech, power, and wealth.
In return for Big Tech support and donations, Donald Trump is pushing Silicon Valley interests around the world. His own ‘AI Action Plan’ says he wants US tech to have “unquestioned and unchallenged global technological dominance”. He bullies any country that tries to rein in their power, make them pay taxes or follow local rules. A key way we can fight back is to come together to tell our government we don’t want them to cave in. So please, add your name to the petition to Keir Starmer today.
Thank you,
