1. Wanted! Volunteer bookstall organiser
Want to travel, meet exciting people, expand your knowledge of dozens of worthwhile causes and organisations, and take one of Londons few remaining radical bookshops into surplus? Then Housmans needs you to organise and help staff the shops bookstalls at a variety of political meetings and conferences around London.
Clean driving licence preferable. Would suit retired person or someone with free time, enthusiasm for books, ideas and people. Expenses paid. 2. Easter shop closures
Housmans will be closed in April on Friday 2nd, and Monday 5th.
3. Monthly pacifism and nonviolence discussions
A reminder that Housmans is the venue for monthly discussions open to all interested in pacifism and nonviolence. Every second Tuesday of the month, from 7pm to 9pm. April topic (Tue 13th): Nonviolence and Ecology. May topic (Tue 11th): Pacifism and Conscientious Objection. For more information please call Albert Beale on 020 7278 4474.

4. Verso Press present: Broonland : The Last days of Gordon Brown with Christopher Harvie
Wednesday 7th April, 7pm
Christopher Harvie is an SNP member of the Scottish Parliament for Mid Scotland and Fife. His latest publication, Broonland, is a scathing and witty indictment of the architect of New Labour, Gordon Brown.
5. Book Launch: Gender Matters in Global Politics with Cynthia Cockburn and Dibyesh Anand
Saturday 10th April, 5pm
Gender Matters in Global Politics promises to be an invaluable book for anyone interested in the intersection of gender roles and international politics. The event will include a brief introduction to the book as a whole, with specific contributions from Cynthia Cockburn on her chapter Militarisation and War, and Dibyesh Anand on Gender and Nationalism.
6. ‘Animals Count’ campaign launch
Saturday 17th April, 5pm
Animals Count, a political party formed in 2006, will be at Housmans to outline their manifesto ahead of the forthcoming general election, at which they will contest the Islington and South Finsbury seat.

7. No Sweat Forum: Workers Rights in Honduras
Thursday 22nd April, 7pm
Anti-sweatshop campaign group No Sweat are joined by guest speakers from People & Planet to discuss workers rights in Honduras. More details to follow.
8. Book Launch: Women and Conscientious Objection with War Resisters International.
Friday 23rd April, 7pm
War Resisters’ International will launch its new publication Women and Conscientious Objection, looking at the creation of a distinctive feminist antimilitarism across the world. The editors, Ellen Elster and Majken Jul Sorensen, as well as a number of the contributors, will be discussing the content of this new release and its possible impact.
9. Debate hosted by Red Pepper: If voting changes so little, what are the means of radical change?
Saturday 24 April, 5pm
A timely debate ahead of the general election about the merits of voting when seeking political change, with Red Peppers editor Hilary Wainwright (author of Reclaim the State), Stuart White (editor of Building a Citizen Society) and Marianne Maeckelberg (author of The Will of the Many – how the alterglobalisation movement is changing the face of democracy).
10. Injustice: Why Social Inequality Persists with Daniel Dorling
Wednesday 28th April, 7pm
Professor Daniel Dorling discusses his new book on the persistence of injustice. Hard-hitting and uncompromising in its call to action, this is essential reading for everyone concerned with social justice.
11. The high tide of workers autonomy the Workers Committee of Magneti Marelli, Milan, 1975-78
Saturday 1st May, 5pm
The Red Guard Tells its Story is a recently published book about the workers’ struggles in Italy in the 1970s. As of yet, it is only available in French and Italian. However, a member of the Mouvement Communiste who worked on the French translation of the book is travelling to London to bring the message of this book to a British audience. The event will involve a discussion of what is important about the struggles of that time and what we can learn from them in relation to workers’ struggles today.
