Study Shows Blacks Will NEVER Gain Wealth Parity With Whites Under the Current System
by BAR executive editor Glen Ford
Contrary to the Big Lie that holds that Blacks have been making general progress in closing various economic “gaps” with whites since the Sixties, African American households have been getting poorer for the past 23 years. “The meter of progress is running backwards on Black America, toward greater inequality and relative poverty.”

Freedom Rider: Elena Kagan is Obama’s Waterloo. And Ours
by BAR editor and senior columnist Margaret Kimberley
Elena Kagan is the worst evidence that voting for Democrats is necessary to safeguard the U.S. Supreme Court. “Kagan is a blank slate careerist with political expediency as her only qualification,” who found it beyond her powers as Harvard Law School dean to hire any tenured Black faculty. In fact, she hired relatively few white women.

The Truth Shall Not be Spoken in Arizona
A Black Agenda Radio commentary by Glen Ford
As Arizona moves past the “tipping point” of non-white population, its government scrambles to safeguard historical white lies from exposure by public school ethnic studies programs. The governor “intends to wipe the white historical slate clean of actual genocides, enslavements, land piracies, and all manner of crimes against darker peoples.” The truth shall not be spoken in Arizona.”

Malcolm X and the “Pan-African Pantheon”

It is a mistake to ask, What would Malcolm do if he were here, because if Malcolm had lived we would not be in the situation that confronts us, today. “What exists today is in part the willful result of his assassination.” Deprived of a clear mind and voice, the Black movement ultimately faltered, and failed.

A Police State for Black and Brown New Yorkers

A Black Agenda Radio commentary by Glen Ford
There is no advice Black and brown parents can give their children to avoid being stopped and frisked by New York City police. Cops last year stopped almost half a million non-whites on the streets based on “furtive movements,” appearing to “case” a person or location, or for reasons explained only as “other.” Apparently, Blacks are nine times as “furtive,” felonious-looking, or “other”-wise threatening, as whites.

The African Liberation Struggle is a Grassroots Thing
by Mark P. Fancher

African decolonization began with dreams of prosperity through unity, best articulated by Ghana’s President Kwame Nkrumah. But Nkrumah was toppled by forces backed by the U.S., and the vision of a United States of Africa faded. “Nevertheless, the demand for African unity by Africa’s grassroots has been incessant,” fed by yearnings from the grassroots.

Soldiers Defecting from Somalia’s U.S.-Backed Regime
by Benjamin Joffe-Walt

Washington’s puppet government in Mogadishu, Somalia’s capital, holds sway over only a few blocks of real estate, propped up by U.S.-paid foreign troops. The “government’s” own soldiers are deserting almost as quickly as they can be recruited. “The transitional ‘government’ does not control any territory, run and administer any state bureaucracy or rule over any population.” It is not a state in any meaningful sense of the word.

Jena Justice: Drug Bust or Racist Revenge?
by Jordan Flaherty

The sheriff in Jena, Louisiana is carrying out a vendetta against the town’s Black population, say residents, under the guise of fighting drug dealers. “They will get put in handcuffs, put behind bars today and never see the light of day again,” Sheriff Franklin shouted as he launched a mass, pre-dawn raid. People were rousted from their beds and paraded to a baseball field, still naked, along with other prisoners.

Taking Back Homes from the Banks: Exercising the Human Right to Housing
by Bill Quigley

The United States has a surplus of housing, especially after the artificial boom that preceded the Big Bust. There are “very real contradictions in the way we provide housing – massive surpluses in the market that led to a collapse in credit and simultaneously people without shelter and permanent affordable housing.” May is the month to begin to balance the scales, and take back the land.

Extra Judicial Killings in Guyana: “Champion of the Earth” Presides Over Death Squad Regime
by the National Resistance

In the Theatre of the Absurd anything is possible. And so it is that Guyana’s President, Bharrat Jagdeo, is among six winners from government, science, business and entertainment to be awarded this year’s United Nations Champion of the Earth prize, for leadership in environmental conservation.

US Troops In Obama’s Afghan War Are Executing Prisoners: Seymour Hersh
video:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=F9XDysYFoJo

Seymour Hersh knows what he’s talking about.  He’s the award winning reporter who first reported the My Lai massacre to the American people back in the 1960s, after an official US Army coverup in which Colin Powell, then a young staff officer, played a key role.  Hundreds of Vietnamese civilians, mostly women and children were rounded up by a US Army unit in the course of a normal day’s operation, shot and dumped into ditches.  In Afghanistan today, where President Obama claims the US is fighting a “good” and “necessary” war today, the veteran reporter says, things are not that much different.
