Get your Clean Air Kit Here!

7 March 2017 — Friends of the Earth

[Now here’s a good idea, I might even get one myself. WB]

I’m excited to announce that we’ve now launched what we hope will be the biggest ever citizen science air pollution experiment. And we’d love you to take part.

For a minimum donation of £15 your Clean Air Kit will let you test the air quality where you live – or in the places that matter most to you.

A few hundred of our supporters have given the kits a test run over the past few months. And now we’re ready for even more of you to join the fight against air pollution.

We’ll use the results from all your experiments to create a ‘state of the nation’ report into air pollution – and put pressure on decision-makers and businesses to make our air safer.

Why does it matter?

Air pollution is a killer. It’s linked to heart disease, lung cancer, worsening asthma and poor lung development in children [1]. However, our recent poll found that only 1 in 10 people think their air quality is bad despite 9 out of 10 air quality zones across the country breaching legal limits for air pollution [2].

Your Clean Air Kit lets you be part of the solution. We’ll send you an easy-to-use air monitoring kit, plus a handy air pollution guide with practical tips on how to tackle air pollution and reduce your exposure.

Your pollution testing kit will then be analysed in a laboratory – and your results added to a UK-wide air pollution map. You’ll be a fundamental part of building a comprehensive picture of air pollution across the country.

Thank you for your continued support of Friends of the Earth. I look forward to taking the next step with you in the fight against air pollution. Together we can heap pressure on decision-makers to clean up our air, for good.

Best wishes,
Ollie Hayes
