| “EU citizens may soon encounter issues akin to those witnessed in the Windrush scandal,” say legal charity Here For Good.
Last year, the Home Office introduced “draconian rules” relating to late applications for the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS). The scheme gives EU citizens legal rights to stay in the UK post-Brexit.
Those applying late for the EUSS are “often very vulnerable, or have faced extremely difficult circumstances that made it hard to apply to the scheme. Many applicants have been homeless, struggling with mental or physical health problems, or victims of domestic abuse.”
Now Here For Good are seeing “blanket rejection letters” stating that applicants do not have good enough reasons for late application and offering no right to appeal.
Tens of thousands of people are receiving refusals with no way
of challenging the decision. Here For Good think this is against the
law, so they’re taking the Home Office to Court. |
