Five facts that prove the NHS needs more cash

Thursday, 17 October 2024 — Just Treatment

There are eerie parallels between the state the NHS is in now, and the state it was in when Labour last took over in government from the Conservatives. Back in 1997 Tony Blair’s New Labour party got into office with a pledge to save the NHS – much like Keir Starmer is promising to do today.

But there is one huge difference between their plans – money. We’ve crunched some numbers and come up with a campaign briefing about the decisions facing Rachel Reeves and the rest of government when they set out their spending plans in a fortnight, and it’s crystal clear – the NHS needs a huge increase in funds to survive.

Matching New Labour’s spending increases would mean nearly an extra £500bn for the NHS over the next five years. But right now the government have got the same rhetoric about fixing the NHS as in 1997, but with no sign of the vital extra funds this time around.

Listening to the countless tragic stories of loss and suffering that our supporters tell us about every week, I know that a failure to increase funding for the NHS at this budget will mean more patients dying that really don’t need to. That’s why we’re going to Downing Street tomorrow to send a message from you that we need the dramatic increase in funding to deliver the NHS we all need and deserve.

Please take a look at our briefing, and share with your friends.

The government has a choice – let’s make sure they choose to tax the rich and save the NHS, instead of protecting the rich and letting patients die.

Thanks for your support,
