A History of Violence
People often assume that Trump’s first time in office (2017-2020) was just a lot of well-meaning bumbling about. But the facts tell a different story—in those years, Trump killed well over 13,000 people (mostly civilians) via drones and bombs. That is the most kills (aka, murders) for any recent US president. He achieved this bloody record by bombing and droning Yemen, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Somali and Sudan. The killing came to an end, only when he left office in 2020. Now that he’s back—he’s picking up from where he left. So, expect thousands more killings before he leaves office. Pete Hegseth loves the word “lethal.”
For whom do we feel compassion? It’s a question that needs serious consideration, given what is now happening in Western societies—where people are divided into various camps, each hating the other with a passion. And all the while, our politicians enable genocide, wage wars and lie constantly. Where will all this evil bring us? C.B. Forde tries to answer this tough question.
Now that the United States has told Europe to look after itself, the valiant leaders of the EU have launched into a grand effort to rearm Europe, because Russia somehow is going to take over the world. Yes, these are the same “leaders” who also believe that Russia can never conquer Ukraine and they will make sure of it. Only in the minds of stalwarts like Dr. von der Leyen and Mrs. Kaja Kalas can both totally opposites premises be true, at the same time. Leonid Savin has a look at this rearmament of the continent.
Odd isn’t it that despite all the impassioned speeches and cutting-edge podcasts on Youtube, there is only just one little country that has decided that it can no longer stomach the genocide in Gaza and will do all it can to stop it. Of course, this instantly makes Yemen a “terrorist” nation, which requires the biggest and strongest nation on this planet to sally forth and bomb the blazes out of Yemen. The only problem—Trump 1.0 tried doing that for 4 years and got nowhere, while losing a lot of hardware in the process, along with American casualties. You have to hand it to the Houthis. And Trump will repeat what he failed at before, of course. That is the iron law of American politics.
We are constantly being told that Iran is a dire “threat” and must be dealt with, via bombs if necessary. But is this really true? As we all know, American has entered the bloodiest and most destructive wars on the pretext of lies. The Iran threat theory is just that. A theory, and nothing more. Instead of engaging in diplomacy and dialogue, bullying and bombing has become American International Relations.
Despite all the claims about “our values,” we all know that morality is as fertile among Western politicians as a colony of dodos—both “right” and “left.” This was made perfectly clear first by the genocide in Gaza, and more recently by “Signalgate,” in which a bunch of “Christians” were in ecstasy when their bombs landed on 53 Houthis civilians, including children. The pious JD Vance even offered to say a “prayer for victory,” as Yank bombers flattened an apartment building and then bombed a cancer hospital. Huzzah!
The Middle East
It has long been known that Iran regards nuclear weapons as theologically abhorrent and the nation’s leaders have issued a legal ruling (fatwa) for their prohibition, as the International Relations scholar Farhad Shahabi Sirjani explains. But will anyone listen, let alone pay attention?
Since everything old is new again for Trump 2.0, well, that miserable failure of a policy cynically called the “Abraham Accords” is being dusted off. And, yes, the usual suspects (Kushner, that prince from Saudi Arabia, etc.) are gearing up to launch “Abraham Accords 2.0,” via which all of the Muslim world will be brought to heel and made to acknowledge Israel as the “Master” of the Middle East, and Netanyahu its true grand mufti. As the saying goes, “There’s many a slip between the cup and the lip.”
The Many Worlds of Zionism
Most assume that Zionism is just a Western Jewish thing. But the ideology is far more pervasive than we often imagine, and it is thriving in the least expected of places. We will continue to explore this topic fully in the months ahead. But for now, here are two instances:
Did you know that there is such a thing as “Hindu Zionism?” Yes, Zionism is an ideology much celebrated and adored in India, with avid followers and promoters. So much so, that now that Israeli businesses no longer hire Arab workers, it is the Indian labor force that fills the vacuum. But this connection goes much deeper… for example, whenever Modi travels about, it is the Mossad that protects him. Wonder what BRICS even means in this context?
Netanyahu tells us that a Persian king invented Zionism? So, there. It was Cyrus the Great (whom Judaism regards as a “messiah”) who actually created Zionism, say the Zionists. Ergo, “Persian Zionism” is thriving. This is why Netanyahu keeps saying that Jews and Persians are great friends. Most Iranian opposition groups (those opposing the current rulers in Iran, both inside and outside the country) are funded and backed by the Mossad and the CIA. The chief spokesman for all these groups is Prince Reza, the son of the late Shah, who recently was invited to Israel and did the requisite prayer at the Wailing Prayer. He dreams big.
It’s a grim and horrific reality—the Israeli army uses sexual torture as part of its warfare against Palestinians. The UN recently issued a detailed report about it. We have this report for you to read, lest it disappear. As with everything Palestinian, it will break your heart.
The scenes are like those out of a banana republic—people being abducted from the street by a horde of masked men, handcuffed, led off, and imprisoned thousands of miles away. Whatever happened to America? In this new America, it is “terrorism” to speak out against the genocide in Gaza, or to support the Palestinians. It is “terrorism” because it is now understood as “antisemitism.” Right now, the most vulnerable (foreign students) are being rounded up—but soon, the law will be stretched to include all those perceived as “antisemitic.”
So, who is behind all these roundups by the latter-day Gestapo? Meet the Campus Maccabees, aka, the Maccabee Taskforce, who act as Zionist police on a hundred American campuses. Their job—identity the “antisemites,” report them, and ICE will happily pick them up and deport them. 400 such “antisemites” have been deported—and counting. In case you didn’t suspect, the person funding the Campus Maccabees is none other than Mrs. Miriam Adelson. Thus far, she has sunk $50 million into this venture. But when was money ever a problem?
Russia and Ukraine
We are happy to welcome the work of the Russian journalist Nikola Jovanovic:
First, she tells us about the close connection between the war in Ukraine and what happened in Syria.
Next, Mikhail Borisovich Khodorkovsky is a prominent Russian oligarch, who resides in London and plots constantly to overthrow President Putin. His most recent effort is to recruit resistance fighters from within the Russian army to get rid of his opponents.
Then, there is the Ukraine, which will keep fighting, even though it has no chance of actually winning this war, as even US intelligence now admits.
And, the persecution of Christians continues in Ukraine—not just the Orthodox, but all Christians—and the brutal press gangs who snatch men from the street are at the forefront of this persecution.
It’s a strange thing. Trump keeps harping on about getting his hands on “rare earths” in Ukraine, which he claims are worth $500 billion—and all the while geologists keep proving that Ukraine has no rare earths to speak of. Has Trump fallen victim to stock fraud? Have the Ukrainians convinced him about their vast wealth? All very strange that no one has told Trump. But then Musk fired everybody who might have known, and his AI has no such algorithm programmed in, just yet. But no doubt, the said algorithm will get fired up, with some solid Ukrainian geological data.
The Game of Politics
Javier Milei has been a disaster for poor Argentina, being overly busy selling off whatever he can find to honest dealers like Blackrock. Leonid Savin has a look at how things really are, with the neoliberal (sorry, “libertarian”) president at the helm.
This may surprise some, but not others—but Trump is actually thinking of re-joining the Commonwealth, you know returning to the bosom of Britain like the prodigal son. So, instead of Canada becoming the 51st state, it may well be the USA becoming a the 11th province of Canada. Oh, the ironies of history!
Canada is a favorite topic for Trump and he loves to tell everybody that America pays Canada to exist as a country. But if you really look at it, it is Canada which actually does subsidize America. Should Trump continue with his tariff war, he will lose it—just as he lost his first tariff war with Canada back in 2018 (yes, he tried that, too). But, as noted, the rule of American politics is to keep repeating what you failed at before—just give it more pizzazz, to make it all sound new.
Musk World
Trump is destroying the deep state, we are told. But just exactly does this mean? What is the deep state? Many speak about it, few care to define it precisely. C.A.R. Turner does so, and along the way, he finds that when people speak of the deep state, they are really speaking about the failure of what was once called “democracy,” not only in America but the West.
MAGA is overjoyed with the work of DOGE, run by Elon Musk. We are told that the “deep state” is being destroyed and Wokery weeded out. But since politics hates a vacuum, do the MAGA-types actually imagine that once Musk finishes his job, the great chasm he leaves behind will be just left there? Yes, US government will actually be “smaller,” because there will be fewer humans in government—replacing them will be Musk’s AI Deep State, which he has openly acknowledged. Machines will be a lot more loyal to the MAGA agenda than any insidious human ever can be. And the first trillion has already been invested in this regearing of America.
Speaking of that first trillion, recently the National Security adviser of the UAE paid a visit to Washington, and he met with Trump (and not his American counterpart, as per protocol). Why? Well, the sheikh was clutching a check/cheque for a cool $1.4 trillion, most of which will go to fund Musk’s AI Deep State venture, under the umbrella of xAI (into which Twitter/X has already been merged). Imagine what a fracture of that money could have done for the poor Gazans. But these oil sheikhs are soulless automatons who will do whatever Washington needs getting done—and pay handsomely for the privilege.
Ideas
Leviathan issues new commandments (double the original ten), in which we are told how to think and how to behave, in order to live in the modern world, as the French philosopher Henri Hude lays out.
Jean-Luc Baslé recent published book, Inverted Democracy in America, which looks at how American democracy has been weakened in an unequal struggle between the elite and the people over the distribution of power and wealth. We bring you an excerpt from this very interesting study.
As well, Carlo Brumat, offers a through review of Mr. Baslé’s book, in which he describes the importance of this work, especially at this time when so much seems to be going on inside America.
Jeb Smith considers the common charge that reading J.R.R. Tolkien brings about a radicalized form of the right wing. Rather, what he discovers is that Tolkien is instead a threat to top-down authoritarianism, which is the dominant ideology now of governance.
The Greek War of Independence was a pivotal conflict that lasted from 1821 to 1829, ultimately leading to Greece’s independence from the Ottoman Empire. Enrico Magnani looks at the role of international volunteers in helping the Greeks achieve their independence from the Turks.
In an intriguing discussion, Jacob Minyard examines how Greek pagan mythology, and its Indo-European heritage, point to Christ; and therefore the Christian faith was not entirely foreign to those learned men of Athens who first heard Saint Paul.
“Atheistic evolutionary naturalism is ultimate irrationality, since an unaided evolving finite cosmos refutes itself: it would continuously have to be giving to itself those existential qualities that it lacks.” This is the conclusion that Dennis Bonnette arrives at, in his consideration of “new existence.”
The Bourbons were crucial in shaping the economic, cultural, and political landscape of southern Italy, leaving a lasting legacy that continues to influence contemporary identity and political movements in the region, as Boyd Cathey explains.
In a wide-ranging interview, Arnaud Imatz, the French historian, speaks about the ideas that have animated his scholarship, as well as the current state of affairs in the West.
Everything is a spectacle. We have become avid watchers of reality, always removed, always distant, never engaged, always slipping from one of Plato’s cave to the next. Diego Fusaro sees this as the ultimate outcome of the consumer society, where everything that touches life is made into a commodity.
Finally, to help us understand and better engage with evil, some words from long ago, by Conrad of Saxony, who examines the deeper meanings of the name of the Holy Mother of God. If we say that evil is growing in this world, then we must also understand how to combat it—because politics is not only a failure, but the very road to Perdition.
We hope that you will find this month’s offerings worthwhile and perhaps instructive. And if you do, please spread the word and share this newsletter with all your family and friends. Thank you!
Until next time,
