| My name is Rhiannon and I’m an NHS doctor. Today I’m reaching out to raise the alarm about what is happening to patient health data, and what you can do about it.
Myself and so many of my colleagues are horrified by the authoritarian approach this government is taking to managing your medical information. Did you know that right now they are trying to force NHS Trusts to adopt health data technology owned by US spy tech company Palantir? This is a company whose core operations are military violence, including drone strike technology, and surveillance, including the mass deportation of migrants by ICE in the US. It has a long track record of grave human rights abuses, and right now is facilitating war crimes and genocide against the Palestinian people. I know that the patients I care for don’t want companies like Palantir to be anywhere near their data. I know that health workers do not want to be forced to use this technology. So together, our movement must take a stand. That’s why I am proud to support Just Treatment’s urgent work to defend patients’ data rights and resist the rollout of Palantir’s software. They need to raise £5k by the end of this week to fund the next phase of their campaign – and they’ve still got a way to go to hit this target. Will you help by clicking here and making a vital contribution today? |
| Even amongst NHS workers, there is still a huge lack of transparency around exactly how Palantir’s software works. Many concerns have been raised about the rights of patients to be able to opt out of their data being used by Palantir’s platform.
Just a few weeks ago the British Medical Association passed a motion calling for Palantir’s contract to be cancelled. Pressure is building, but the government is still refusing to act – so it’s down to our movement to grow this campaign and force a change of course. As health workers and patients, we are united in demanding morality, transparency and consent when it comes to the systems that manage patient health data. That’s why as an NHS doctor I am urging you to donate to Just Treatment’s campaign appeal if you can. They are fighting hard to protect the data rights of NHS patients, and they do not receive any dedicated funding for this work. That’s where you come in. Can you help them to reach their £5k fundraising target by clicking here and making a donation today? Our movement is up against big tech companies with deep pockets, and government ministers with vested interests. But if enough of us take action, I know we can take them on – and win. Solidarity, Rhiannon NHS doctor and Just Treatment supporter |
