The BBC reported Israeli Vice Consul Arie Scher in Rio de Janeiro fled Brazil and returned to Israel on 5th July 2000 to face an investigation into allegations that pornographic pictures and videotapes of young children found in the home of a Hebrew language teacher arrested on Tuesday had been pictured and filmed at the diplomat’s house.

Brazilian Police said the pictures had been published on the internet with the apparent aim of attracting foreign paedophiles to Rio de Janeiro.

SMH online part of the Fairfax group said that Arie Scher was head of a child prostitution [ring], and the group recruited girls as young as nine years old and organized sex parties with the children for Israeli tourists. One of the child prostitutes was questioned by Brazilian police and led them to the home of a Hebrew language teacher in Rio, Georges Schteinberg, where police seized photographs of hundreds of naked children and videos taken at sex parties with the children. Viewing the videos, police officials recognized the swimming pool and deck of the Israeli consul, Arie Scher, which was the scene of many of the sex parties. In Schteinberg’s home, police said they found 12 videos, internet messages and 154 pictures, including the shots of naked girls in Scher’s apartment.

Reuters reported: “Police said a young girl testified she was filmed and photographed by the teacher, Georges Schteinberg, having sex with Israeli tourists. She also explained that Scher participated in some of the sessions . . . . ‘We confirmed that the pornographic pictures were taken next to the consul’s pool and on his deck,’ said Roberto Costa, a chief investigator for the civil police.”

Steinberg was said to have worked [in the Israeli] embassy and is said to have attempted suicide while in police custody, but failed. Schteinberg confirmed that he had assisted in making nude photographs in the consul’s apartment, and that he had sexual relations with a girl, age 11, who had been living with Schteinberg since the beginning of the year, as had been arranged by Scher. (Brazilian newspaper O Dia on 6 July 2000) Agent Icaro Silva of the Brazilian Police Commission (Copacabana) told reporters that nine complete pornographic Web sites were found on the hard drive of Schteinberg’s computer, and all were in Hebrew, the language that Schteinberg taught. “We want to determine the names of the other girls who appear in those photos,” said the commission agent. He added that the Web sites confirm that Schteinberg was running an Internet service that brought Israeli tourists to Brazil to have sex with the children.

Silva also connected Scher to another notorious child pornographer, a retired professor by the name of Ablio Nogueira de Faria, age 78, who was in jail for producing child pornography.

An arrest warrant for Arie Scher , the vice consul were issued after two juveniles reported to Police that they were forced by Scher to have sexual intercourse with various Israeli and other foreign “guests and tourists”. But before police got to Scher’s house place he fled the country on the advice of the Israeli Consulate, Eitan Surkis and returned to Israel. His computer disappeared.

More Sex, Mossad spies and Israeli Embassy staff disappear

Amir Lati, 2nd Secretary at the Israeli Embassy in Canberra was secretly expelled from Australia last month (Jan 2005) after the Howard Government threatened to declare him persona non grata. He is said to be a Mossad operator and to be seeking military and technology secrets, and intelligence, passed to Australia by the US.

Israel’s embassy spokeswoman, Orna Sagiv, a spokeswoman at the Israeli Embassy wouldn’t comment other than to say the affair, had not affected the warm relations between Israel and Australia.

Thirty something Mr Lati was said to have seduced a senior official at the Australian Defence Department who had access to classified material. A number of women had complained of his unwanted attentions and persistent phone calls. The women had thought at the time his behaviour might have just come down to cultural difference — but they were unnerved nevertheless. This was discovered by the Australian Secret Intelligence Organisation after ASIO had put the 30-something junior diplomat – and other embassy officials – under surveillance after visiting two Israeli spies, Eli Cara and Uriel Kelman, who were arrested in NZ for trying to buy NZ passports, they were jailed for six months and have now returned to Israel.

On February 28 by Israel’s President, Moshe Katsav is scheduled to visit Australia and the affair has caused an explosive row with US intelligence agencies, which fear their secrets have been compromised again by the Israelis.

The Defence woman would have had national security clearance, allowing her to view classified documents but such a clearance, however, would require her to have notified Defence she had been in contact with a foreign diplomat or military official.

However the Israeli Foreign Ministry has today rejected as “terribly exaggerated” an Israeli newspapers (Ma’ariv, Haaretz), articles claiming the newly appointed consul in Canberra, Ari Scher, had to leave Brazil five years ago after being implicated in a sex scandal.

Sex, Israeli spies …the usual story Part II

Ari Scher the disgraced paedophile (now 40) has now been been reported to be replacing the secretly recalled Amir Laty. The Israeli Foreign Ministry confirmed that Scher’s appointment was “pending” and he had not left for Australia…yet. Yes…you read that right the first time…perhaps you may want to read it again.

Israel and Brazil do not have an extradition treaty but the Brazilian Government asked the Israeli Government to take proceedings against Scher.

Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Relations delivered a formal request to Israel’s Foreign Ministry stating that Rio de Janeiro’s 31st criminal precinct had a criminal case pending against Scher. It is understood the case is still open.

The extradition request was sent to Brazil’s embassy in Tel Aviv on October 2001 and later forwarded to the Israeli Foreign Ministry.

Ma’ariv reported that Israel’s Civil Service Commission had investigated theallegations upon his return and found that Mr Scher had behaved inappropriately for a diplomat but was not guilty of criminal behaviour. It banned him from foreign diplomatic missions for five years.

A spokesman for the Israeli Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem, Mark Regev, confirmed the disciplinary hearing upon Scher’s hasty hop back to the sanctuary of Jeruslaem five years ago but he apparently said “all this stuff in the article is simply untrue”.

“He was a young and single man at the time. Now he is married and he’s six years older and there is no reason why he shouldn’t make an excellent diplomatic appointment in Australia,” Mr Regev said.

Israeli sources have been reported saying that that because of the public nature of the allegations, the inquiry into Scher’s behaviour in Brazil was not internal to the foreign ministry but was held at the higher level of the country’s Civil Service Commission who found that,”while some of his behaviour was unbecoming of a diplomat serving overseas there was nothing criminal or close to criminal”.

“We stand behind him,” Mr Regev said.

“This is a good man. He’s a serious diplomat. He made a mistake when he was younger but there is no reason why he should not go on to have a very strong career as a diplomat.”

“The decision to send him to Australia stands but because of concerns that were raised, the case is being looked at the highest levels of the ministry,” Mr Regev said.

Biographical Notes

Aryeh “Arie” Scher Tel Aviv 1965, childhood in Netanya, Israel. His father was from Austria; his mother Italy. He entered the United States, apparently legally, and lived for a while in San Diego, (curiously where Mossad spies and Saudi terrorists co-habited) he taught Hebrew and worked as an administrator for a vacation resort.

Between his visits to California, Scher spent four years in the Israel Army’s “Nachal” corps, a quasi-religious military brigade. After leaving the IDF, he went to Australia for a while working [in] Jewish student organizations. He returned to Israel to study at the University of Tel Aviv, studying Public Administration and Political Science.

After graduating, Scher spent 2 years in China as an assistant consular diplomat. He was then assigned to the Israeli Embassy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Scher is reputed to be fond of sun tanning on beaches, often naked. Scher is believed to be homosexual, in addition to being a paedophile.
