Response to COGAT ‘fact sheet’ on water in West Bank
Alternative Information Center 9/23/2012
Water is a human right and a prerequisite for economic, social and cultural development. While the West Bank region is anything but water scarce and blessed with ample winter rains, the 45-year Israeli military occupation has left Palestinian communities severely water stressed. A fair and lasting redistribution of natural water resources remains central to Israeli-Palestinian negotiations and a highly politicized issue. Israel has been waging a PR campaign with very problematic and conflicting statistics and statements on water to legitimize its policies against Palestinians.
Justice (as a prerequisite for peace) can only be achieved when there is a fair distribution of water according to international law.
So what’s the truth about water?
Two of the main bodies of Israel’s occupation that decree, prohibit, block and demolish (“interact with”) Palestinian water resources and infrastructure – the military “Civil
Administration” (Bet El settlement) and the Israeli Water Authority – have launched a campaign of “information on water issues”, in reaction to respected studies by the World Bank (2009), Amnesty International (2009) and the French Assemblée Nationale (2011). This brief examines and, where necessary corrects, the latest Civil Administration (CA) leaflet.
The brief may be read here. [see link below] — See also: Brief: Response to COGAT “fact sheet” (PDF) more.. e-mail
Palestinians demand Oslo cancelled
9/20/2012
.As protests continue throughout the occupied territories against the high cost of living, growing numbers of Palestinians are openly demanding the cancellation of the Oslo Accords.
Signed between the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) and Israel in August 1993, the accords allowed for the creation of the autonomous Palestinian Authority (PA) under the Israeli military occupation. The Palestinians hoped the accords would eventually liberate them from Israeli domination and lead to the creation of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Israel, however, adopted a policy of procrastination and equivocation, embarking on an intensive campaign of building and expanding Jewish colonies, which experts say has effectively killed any realistic prospects for the establishment of a viable and territorially contiguous Palestinian entity in the West Bank.
In the past two weeks, tens of thousands of Palestinians, from all backgrounds and political orientations, took to the streets to protest the severest economic crisis to hit the occupied territories since the Israeli occupation in 1967.
Protesters demonstrated against absurdly high prices, especially of foodstuffs, along with fuel and the high costs of education. They also demanded pay raises to augment their meagre and dwindling wages.
Some unruly protesters assaulted policemen and damaged public property, generating widespread dismay among the general public, which the PA utilised in a concentrated PR campaign to discredit what looked like an uprising against both Israel and the PA regime. more.. e-mail
Benghazi Attack. Libya’s Green Resistance Did It… And NATO Powers Are Covering Up
Mark Robertson and Finian Cunningham, Centre for Research on Globalization – Middle East 9/20/2012
US Ambassador’s Killing Had Nothing to Do With Al Qaeda, Islamist Blowback or Anti-Islamic Video
The NATO powers and the bureaucrats they installed in Libya want you to think that all 5.6 million Libyans are happy that NATO and its proxy terrorists destroyed Libya, a country which under Gaddafi had the highest standard of living in Africa.
They want you to think that NATO brought “freedom and democracy” to Libya, not chaos and death.
They want you to think that there is no Green Resistance to the NATO imperialists or NATO’s Islamist allies in Benghazi.
In reality, the Resistance has been increasingly active since shortly after the murder of Muammar Gaddafi in October 2011, as will be shown below. They strike any NATO target they can, and they execute key Libyans who betrayed Gaddafi and sided with NATO. The Benghazi incident was merely their latest blow against what they see as NATO’s illegal occupation of their country.
Everyone in Libya knows about the Green Resistance, whose members are called “Tahloob” (Arabic for “Gaddafi loyalists”). The denial only happens outside of Libya, by the NATO powers and their dutiful Western mainstream media.
….THEY ALL ADMITTED THE TRUTH AT FIRST
The morning after the Benghazi attack, on 12 September, the NATO puppets unwittingly admitted the truth about the “Tahloob” (Green Resistance), and whined that NATO was not doing enough to help crush it. Libyan Deputy Interior Minister Wanis Al Sharif admitted this in a Benghazi news conference, which was later broadcast on Al Jazeera television. (7) (8) (29) more.. e-mail
notes on Palestine’s preventable water and food crises
In Gaza: 23 Sep 2012 – * Gaza City life issues graffiti “ Gaza is an ancient centre of habitation that has survived for 4,000 years, at various times in the face of marginalisation and destruction. Today it represents an essentially urban economy, isolated and kept alive through external funding, the illegal tunnel economy, and the ingenuity and persistence of its people. ” – UN press release , Aug 2012 Water facts from the Aug 2012 UN report (Gaza in 2020: a livable place?) on the steady decimation of Gaza and its rapid plunge to being an (even more) “unlivable place”: -Gaza’s coastal aquifer may become unusable by 2016 and damage to it irreversible by 2020 -With no perennial streams and low rainfall, Gaza relies almost completely on the underlying coastal aquifer, which is partly replenished by rainfall and runoff from the Hebron hills to the east (but Palestinian and international NGOs, as well as Palestinian farmers…more
