Global Irresponsibility

07.09.2013 | 10:50 | Georgy VOSKRESENSKY

Next week the US Congress is to express its opinion on the reckless and staggering rush of Barack Obama as the President is pressuring the lawmakers to push through his decision to strike Syria. No details are known and they are changing all the time. The military officials have been asked to revise their plans 50 times since the Pentagon first began considering a «limited» action! The White House let know that the President is still pondering the prospect of expanding the list of targets to be hit by US missiles. These ill-boding fluctuations only feed into congressional uncertainty making the lawmakers doubt President Obama really knows what he is doing…

The Golan Heights as a Key to Understanding the Problems of Syria

07.09.2013 | 00:00 | Dmitry MININ

The newspaper Israel Hayom conducted a public opinion survey according to which Israel was the only country in which a possible U.S. military strike against Syria is supported by the majority of the population… Netanyahu’s government has cast aside all concerns that if the ruling regime in the neighboring country is overthrown, even fiercer opponents of Israel may come to power, and it is advocating as powerful a strike as possible against Syria. Behind the missile launches held by the Israeli navy in conjunction with the Americans in the waters of the Mediterranean Sea on September 3 stand geopolitical reckonings connected mainly with the future of the Syrian Golan Heights, occupied in 1967; it is no accident that the question of their ownership has remained in the shadow of the discussion on Syria…

Iran Will Stand Up for Syria With All its Might

06.09.2013 | 14:30 | Nikolai BOBKIN

The prediction that the war will spill over to encompass the entire Middle East in case the United States strikes Syria is coming true. As it was supposed to be, the first outside actor to get involved is Iran.  The enlistment is on, Iranian young people are willing to put on uniform and defend Syria. The number of volunteers is nearing 100 thousand. They have sent a letter to the President of Syria asking for his permission to be deployed in the area of Golan Heights… Astrike against Syria is likely to make Tehran boost its security, includingthe acquisition of nuclear weapons as a universal deterrent…

Americans Unconvinced Intervention in Syria is Right Thing to Do

06.09.2013 | 00:00 | Andrei AKULOV

President Barack Obama is waging a hard battle to acquire support at home for a military action against Syria. On Wednesday, September 4, the US Senate key panel – the Committee on Foreign Relations – has okeyed the use of military force in Syria. The measure was endorsed by 10-7 votes… Rep. Tom Reed on September 3 announced his opposition to U.S. military strikes on Syria, saying such attacks could lead to a dangerous escalation of violence in the Middle East… An anti-interventionist wing in the Senate led by Rand Paul remains a substantial challenge for the White House…

«Alawites – to Their Graves!» – US and Al Qaeda Join Together in Combat Under Same Banner

05.09.2013 | 19:02 | Nikolai BOBKIN

…A military intervention is in works to render direct US support to Al Qaeda. The Syrian Alawites are to be the main target. The Syria’s «liberators» predict that the fate of Muammar Gaddafi is awaiting Bashar Assad, the most renowned person in the Alawite ranks… The slogan «Alawites – to their graves!» hits the black banners of Al Qaeda as well the stars and stripes flag in the Oval room of the White House where the presence of George Bush Jr. is still felt… What next step Barack Obama, the militants’ sponsor, is going to take? Perhaps that’s what he is going to tell the world about at the G20 summit?

Obama Administration Stoking Sunni Violence Against Alawites and Shi’as in Syria

05.09.2013 | 06:00 | Wayne MADSEN

One thing U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry avoided telling the Senate Foreign Relations Committee during his plea for approval of the Syria war resolution is how the Central Intelligence Agency and militant Saudi intelligence-backed Al Qaeda elements are targeting Alawite and Shi’a communities in Syria… Reports from across Syria indicate that U.S.-trained and Saudi-financed «Islamic State in Iraq and Syria,» also known as «Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant» (which includes Lebanon and Turkey’s majority Alevi [Alawite kinfolk] Hatay province), are massacring Syrian Kurds, including women and children, as well as Syrian Alawites and Christians in large numbers…

US Military Vets Question Wisdom of Attack Against Syria

05.09.2013 | 00:00 | Andrei AKULOV

…It has always been like that. The US started a small (limited) war planned to end up in the blink of an eye. It normally was a pipe dream becoming protracted and costly adventure as raw awakening came. If the first strike against Syria brings about no result (and it is actually doomed to be this way), then Obama will have to willy-nilly order another «limited» (but this time not that «limited») action under the wave of harsh criticism… None of the problems posed by Syria conflict will be solved as a result of military action. And that is the way Washington embarks on the road to another Vietnam, a folly-like self-destruction making suffer the very same American people whose interests President Obama has solemnly vowed to serve…

Syria: The Iron In Obama’s Soul

04.09.2013 | 20:03 | Melkulangara BHADRAKUMAR

For the first time through the two-year old Syrian conflict, the United States has mentioned the holy cow – «boots on the ground.» The Secretary of State John Kerry has pleaded that the US Congress should approve the use of American ground troops although the Obama administration may not intend to take recourse to such action.  This is a hugely significant turning point in the fast-developing scenario of US military intervention in Syria… Quite obviously, a frightening scenario is looming large in front of the world opinion. This could turn out to be the George W. Bush doctrines of humanitarian intervention and «unilateralism» combined and multiplies by two…

Nobel Peace Laureate Obama Pushes War in Powder-Keg Middle East

04.09.2013 | 17:13 | Finian CUNNINGHAM

It seems that the Obama White House and the Washington hawks have now found common cause over Syria… With five US warships now off the coast of Syria with a total capacity of some 200 cruise missiles plus two aircraft carriers on the way to the region, it would be foolhardy to think Obama is bluffing. Despite overwhelming popular opposition to such action both in the US and around the world, Nobel Peace Laureate Obama seems on a reckless course to do what American presidents do best: committing yet another criminal act of war…

American Generals Stand between War and Peace

04.09.2013 | 08:09 | Wayne MADSEN

As of the evening of Friday, August 29, President Obama was on track to launch a sustained 72-hour cruise missile and drone attack on pre-selected air defense and other strategic military targets in Syria… However, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey, made a hurried trip to the White House during the early morning hours of Saturday to make one last final plea to hold off on any attack. Dempsey told Obama that the president’s military plan would not work… Obama is faced with another grim reality. Some within the Pentagon ranks are so displeased with Obama’s policies on Syria, they have let certain members of Congress of both parties know that «smoking gun» proof exists that Obama and CIA director John O. Brennan personally authorized the transfer of arms and personnel from Al-Qaeda-linked Ansar al Sharia Islamist rebels in Libya to Syria’s Jabhat al Nusra rebels, who are also linked to Al Qaeda, in what amounts to an illegal «Iran-contra»-like scandal. The proof is said to be highly «impeachable».

The New World Order’s Tower of Babel

04.09.2013 | 00:00 | Nikolai MALISHEVSKI

Recent events in Iraq, Libya and Syria have one common factor which is being carefully concealed: the looting of museums and the destruction of entire strata of the rich heritage of ancient cultures by the American «liberators». For example, after the Americans plundered Baghdad’s museums, a large part of the loot was dumped on the black antiques market in the West. This is also one of the motives for the Yankees’ campaign against Damascus. Illegal trading of antiques is considered no less profitable than the drug trade. However, not everything comes down to the simple looting of treasuries. Something much greater is at stake: control over the future through selective destruction of the priceless artifacts of the past…

Will West Let Ship Called IMF Sink?

04.09.2013 | 00:00 | Valentin KATASONOV

…The only real issue discussed in concrete terms at G20 meetings is reviewing the quotas for International Monetary Fund (MF) members. It will be on the table at the September 5-6 G20 summit in Saint-Petersburg. This subject is a thorny one being related to vital interests of major groups of countries and each state individually… The discrepancy between the existing correlation of contributions into the world economy and the determination of quotas in the International Monetary Fund has become too obvious. The BRICS members – the states with dynamic economies – are the chief initiators of the idea to reconsider the formula used for determination of IMF quotas…

«Utter Nonsense»

03.09.2013 | 05:00 | Irina LEBEDEVA

…Moscow is not the only one who considers the attempts to put the blame on Bashar Assad, accused of using chemical weapons against his own troops and population, as «utter nonsense». Manlio Dinucci, a well-known Italian reporter, wrote right after the August 21 events that it was absurd to accuse Assad of using chemical weapons at the time UN inspectors were in the country upon his invitation. It’s like a murderer calling police to his house at the time he kills a household member. The Italian analyst has no doubts the August chemical weapons provocation in Syria was a false flag operation, which is routine for Western special services…

Latin America against U.S. Aggression in Syria

03.09.2013 | 00:00 | Nil NIKANDROV

Venezuelan Member of Parliament Adel el-Zabayar, a Syrian by descent, lost no time in returning to his homeland. Zabayar explained to his friends in the Arab Federation in Venezuela, of which he is the president, that the time has come for all patriots in the Arab world to take arms to defend Syria from the threat of aggression. Many immigrants from Arab countries in Latin America have followed his example. Without publicizing their plans, they are arriving in Syria by various routes. The formation of the first battalion of volunteer fighters from Latin America is almost complete…

Obama Nearing Point of No Return

02.09.2013 | 12:59 | Melkulangara BHADRAKUMAR

President Vladimir Putin’s remarks on the Syrian crisis, while on a visit to Vladivostok in the weekend, were his first ones since the crisis began snowballing over the United States’ moves to launch a militarily attack against the Middle Eastern country. What is striking from the Kremlin’s transcript is that Putin spoke far more extensively than what the media reports suggested, and, second, he spoke on virtually every aspect of the explosive situation. The timing is very important, too, as less than a week remains for the major international event G20 summit which is scheduled to be held in St. Petersburg on Thursday… Certainly, Putin towers head and shoulders above other world statesmen today in taking a highly principled stance, given Russia’s involvement in Syria. Russia’s advantage is its deep knowledge of Syria and the Middle East, and it’s a  well-known fact that it continues to play a big role to cobble together Geneva 2 conference despite all heavy odds…

Iraq: A Seething Boiler About to Explode

02.09.2013 | 00:00 | Anton VESELOV

The pressure in the boiler which Western officials affectedly call «the new democratic Iraq» is building steadily and, figuratively speaking, the needle has entered the red zone. The deepening crisis is systemic in nature, encompasses the most important areas of life and undermines the foundations of statehood… While in 2011 4,147 people in Iraq were killed as a result of terrorist attacks, since the beginning of 2013 over 5,600 people have already been killed, more than in all of 2012 (4574); this is the highest figure since 2008. Since April – May 2013, every week there have been no less than 200 acts of terrorism and armed attacks, with numerous victims…

Obama and his War Against Middle East Christians

02.09.2013 | 00:00 | Nikolai BOBKIN

A possible US intervention into Syria against the background of chaos and bloody turmoil reigning in the country for over two years could become a turning point in the contemporary world history. Everything that is taking place in the Middle East during the Obama’s tenure – be it Tunisia, Libya, Syria or Yemen – is a result of US direct meddling into internal affairs of these countries… The plight of Syrian Christians is especially hard. Terrorists burn temples, attack old men, women and children… The US administration does its best to exacerbate inter-confessional strife in Syria and across the entire Arab world. It looks like planned destruction of historical areas related to the birth of Christianity…

American Jews Push Obama to War

01.09.2013 | 00:00 | Andrey MELEKHOV

There is a paradox: Israelis rely on the United States, whatever they do, but each and every time they become victims of the greed and ambitions of their American co-nationals who consider the United States only as an instrument of global financial management. The events in Syria prove the point… The situation could not be better for the Islamic radicals rushing to Syria upon the US call to come and defend «democracy». Having launched a couple of poisonous sarin-tipped munitions against Israel, they will provide the West with an opportunity to substantiate the need for toppling the legal Syrian government using military force. On the other hand, they’ll have great pleasure to watch TV and see the Jews they hate so much in the throes of death…

Who is to Stop Rogue President?

31.08.2013 | 17:11 | Georgy VOSKRESENSKY

…With sharp sarcasm Patrick Buchanan notes that John Andrew Boehner, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, could inform Barack Obama about what the US Constitution says about the President’s war powers. Then the President would know that under the Constitution, in the absence of an attack on the United States, Congress alone has the authority to decide whether the United States goes to war. As Speaker, he can call the House back on Monday to debate, and decide, whether to authorize the war Obama is about to start. In the absence of a Congressional vote for war, Boehner should remind the President that U.S. cruise missile strikes on Syria, killing soldiers and civilians alike, would be the unconstitutional and impeachable acts of a rogue President. Moreover, an attack on Syria would be an act of stupidity on the part of the one who sanctions it…
