Let’s compare a couple of accounts of the mass deaths apparently caused by chemical weapons in the Damascus suburb of Ghouta on August 21. One account comes from the U.S. government (8/30/13), introduced by Secretary of State John Kerry. The other was published by a Minnesota-based news site called Mint Press News (8/29/13).

Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says the Islamic Republic had sent an official memo to the United States through the Swiss Embassy in Tehran (which serves as the US interests section in Iran) last December, in which Washington had been forewarned that “handmade articles of chemical weapons, including sarin gas, are being transferred into Syria.”

According to the website magazine Foreign Policy dated August 28th 2013, the NSA would have intercepted communications between the chief of the Syrian chemical weapons unit and a high ranked official from the Syrian Department of defence. The latter was in panic after the chemical attack that cost the lives of 1 429 people [1].
