Washington Wastes No Time to Sabotage Minsk
14.02.2015 | 00:00 | Finian CUNNINGHAM
With their noses out of joint and egos bruised, the United States and its European lieutenants immediately got to work to undermine the Minsk ceasefire deal by twisting the terms of the accord and seeking to frame Russia for its imminent failure… Russian President Vladimir Putin deserves huge credit for showing statesmanlike leadership over the Ukraine crisis. The trouble is that the Americans are playing a very different and dirty game in which there are no rules to abide by.
Egypt Waiting for Russia
13.02.2015 | 11:22 | Arkady DZIUBA
America’s strategy in Ukraine, along with other important global policy issues, hinges on setting up the international isolation of Russia… The jackpot for America so far in this game was the European Union, which was initially in no hurry to shoot itself in the foot, but which finally gave in to pressure from Washington. Our world is a big one, however, and is not limited to Europe… The outcome of President Putin’s visit to Egypt is yet more evidence of America’s failed attempts to isolate Russia in the international arena. And the significance of the visit is not just limited to Egypt…
American Information Weapon Used against European Politicians
13.02.2015 | 00:00 | Georgy VOSKRESENSKY
Anonymous first appeared in 2003 on Internet image boards as a group of hackers espousing the freedom of speech and operating as an «anarchist global digital brain». It is an instrument or a weapon designed to be used in information warfare. It has an advantage – in many cases it is extremely hard to define who exactly used it. But there was no problem of this kind when Anonymous published a 1993 photo report of Angela Merkel visiting the youth club Elbterrassen and meeting with a bunch of skinhead and other friends, one of whom makes a Nazi salute…
The Czech Republic: Doomed without Russia
13.02.2015 | 00:00 | Pyotr ISKENDEROV
Czech President Miloš Zeman’s interview on Sunday with the national online newspaper Blesk was unusually tough and outspoken even for the Czech head of state, who is well-known as an independent thinker. Zeman virtually admitted that there was a group of countries within the European Union who were against the anti-Russian sanctions, and declared that with regard to relations between the West and Russia, priority should be given to trade and economic cooperation rather than political confrontation…
Ceasefire May Spare Poroshenko From Knives Out in Kiev
12.02.2015 | 18:50 | Finian CUNNINGHAM
A ceasefire in the Ukraine war has been brokered after marathon talks in the Belarus capital, Minsk, this week. Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the breakthrough along with his German and French counterparts following 17 hours of intense negotiations that went on through the night… French President Francois Hollande said of the result: «It is a relief for Europe». But perhaps the biggest relief will be felt by Poroshenko… Poroshenko’s belated keenness for some good political news is understandable – given numerous reports that the knives are out among disgruntled paramilitary leaders that shore up the Kiev regime…
Who Is Obama Going to Fight in Europe?
12.02.2015 | 00:00 | Nikolai BOBKIN
The White house is working on the 2016 fiscal year budget to begin on October 1, 2015. The draft budget is equal to $1, 8 trillion… The increased spending would add $38 billion for defense programs to hike the military budget up to the record high $561 billion. What poses a threat to the United States? Who is Obama going to fight during the last year of his presidency before he leaves in 2016?.. For the first time the draft budget includes a special expenditure for exerting pressure on Russia…
Obama’s New (Old) Iraq War
12.02.2015 | 00:00 | Wayne MADSEN
…Mr. Obama wants to scrap a 2002 congressional authorization for then-President George W. Bush to use military force in Iraq but leave in place a more-encompassing 2001 post-9/11 authorization for the use of military force (AUMF) that Obama has used to carry out drone strikes in Yemen, Somalia, and elsewhere… Obama’s secret wars in Syria and Iraq are matched by his current covert military and intelligence support for Ukraine’s regular army and its irregular battalions…
Why Delhi Admonished India’s Modi
11.02.2015 | 08:46 | Melkulangara BHADRAKUMAR
…The defeat in Delhi couldn’t have come as a shock to Modi. To his credit it needs to be said that he is a realist who understands the nation’s ‘mood’… Modi has given a free hand to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley with the proviso that he must somehow show results quickly to galvanize the economy and put it on a high trajectory of growth. To be sure, in foreign policies too, there is bound to be some impact. Modi has expounded the ‘Make in India’ project as the centre piece of the country’s economic diplomacy to which he attributes primacy in the foreign policy sphere…
Iran, Russia and USA: 36 years after Islamic Revolution
11.02.2015 | 00:00 | Nikolai BOBKIN
February 11 is the date to mark the 36th anniversary of the Iran’s Islamic revolution – one of the most important events of the XX century… Normally it’s the time for the government to sum up and assess the results of its work. This year the relationship with Washington and Moscow tops the foreign policy agenda… Now when the Russia-US relationship is at low ebb, the both sides expect Iran to leave behind the policy of compromises and make its stance clear. But they adopt different policies on Iran…
Moscow’s Problem: Dealing with Imbeciles and Vassals
10.02.2015 | 16:44 | Finian CUNNINGHAM
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, speaking in Munich last weekend, deplored the lack of European independence in averting Washington’s systematic vandalism of the international order… Merkel and Hollande may be finally getting the message from the millions of ordinary EU citizens who deeply object to American warmongering towards Russia at Europe’s expense. But given the tradition of European vassalage to the imbecilic Americans, the chances of a positive breakthrough for peaceful relations remain elusive. European leadership is still a captive of Washington’s clutches…
Munich Security Conference – Hot Issues, Vibrant Debates, Ukraine Steals the Show (II)
10.02.2015 | 06:00 | Andrei AKULOV
…The looming threat of Islamic State posed to Russia, the U.S., and Europe appears to have the potential to bring them closer together and leave temporarily aside (or at least ignore) their differences over Ukraine as talks are given a chance. Who knows, perhaps the February 11 Normandy format meeting will spur a broader process of peaceful settlement. The question of how to minimize Russia-West confrontation over Ukraine to deal with the Islamic State together remains open…
Munich Security Conference – Hot Issues and Vibrant Debates as Ukraine Steals the Show (I)
10.02.2015 | 00:00 | Andrei AKULOV
From February 6 to 8, 2015, Munich was again in the focus of international politics with over 400 renowned decision-makers in international politics, including about twenty heads of state and government and more than sixty foreign and defence ministers, 30 CEOs of large global companies as well as strong parliamentary delegations coming together at the 51st Munich Security Conference (MSC) to discuss current and future issues in foreign and security policy focused heavily on the new Russia – West standoff over Ukraine and the Islamic State posing a global threat among other acute issues…
Is Peace or War at Hand?
10.02.2015 | 00:00 | Paul Craig ROBERTS
The meeting with Putin was initiated by Merkel and Hollande, because they are disturbed by the aggressive position that Washington has taken toward Russia and are fearful that Washington is pushing Europe into a conflict that Europe does not want. However, Merkel and Hollande cannot resolve the NATO/EU/Ukraine situation unless Merkel and Hollande are willing to break with Washington’s foreign policy and assert the right as sovereign states to conduct their own foreign policy…
Ukraine: Military Coup Inevitable
09.02.2015 | 00:00 | Dmitry MININ
The process aimed at finding peaceful settlement of Ukraine’s crisis is re-launched. Now the question pops up – who should sign a corresponding agreement on the part of Ukraine? A year has passed since the Ukraine’s government was forcibly removed… With the chaos reigning in Kiev the measures taken will probably not be enough. The adoption of new peace plan for Ukraine may be used as a signal…
The Politicization of the AMIA Investigation: Pretext for Regime Change in Argentina?
09.02.2015 | 00:00 | Mahdi Darius NAZEMROAYA
History has a strange way of replicating itself. Argentina has been going through a process similar to the post-1999 years, after Boris Yeltsin stepped down and Vladimir Putin took his place in the Kremlin as the president of the Russian Federation. While it has been struggling to throw off the foreign yoke, the Argentine federal government in Buenos Aires has been consolidating its economic and political power…
Hypocrisy Empire (III)
08.02.2015 | 00:00 | Dmitry MININ
The hypocrisy intrinsic to American policy is especially apparent in the use of soft or smart power. Joseph Nye, former Deputy to the Undersecretary of State for Security Assistance, Science, and Technology and Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, coined the term… Then he concluded that soft power alone was not enough so he came up with combination of hard and soft power… But soft power or hard power, American politicians always want the same thing – to establish their superiority at the lowest possible price…
Economics Wars and Economic Sanctions (III)
08.02.2015 | 00:00 | Valentin KATASONOV
Over the long period of time that economic sanctions have been actively used in the world, a wealth of knowledge has been accumulated regarding the organisation of such sanctions and ways to counteract them. Probably the most extensive experience of counteracting sanctions has been accumulated by Russia, and almost all of this was accrued during the Soviet period of her history… The strategic solution to the problems caused by the economic sanctions was the industrialisation of Soviet Russia…
