Ankara – Riyadh: A Geopolitical Fault Line (I)

28.03.2015 | 00:00 | Pyotr ISKENDEROV

…In some regional conflicts (primarily in Syria), Ankara and Riyadh are tactical allies, but since both countries aspire to regional leadership, the natural result is an intensification of their rivalry and discord. This process is accompanied by, on one hand, both countries attempts to win over the United States, and on the other, by the search for new allies, which can include Russia…

Israel’s Future Vision of the Middle East

28.03.2015 | 00:00 | Wayne MADSEN

…The Saudis claim nine other nations, including Egypt, Morocco, Pakistan, the Gulf states, and Sudan, have joined its military campaign in Yemen against the Shi a Houthis. The Saudis have called their assault in Yemen Operation DECISIVE STORM, which sounds much like America’s Operation DESERT STORM against Saddam Hussein in 1991. The Houthis, backed by Iran and Lebanese Hezbollah, succeeded in driving out the pro-Saudi and pro-U.S. Yemeni government from Sana a, Taiz, and Aden. Behind Saudi Arabia s DECISIVE STORM is the hidden hand of Israel…

Another Phase of Ukraine’s Statehood Crisis: US Embassy Involved in Showdown between Tycoons

27.03.2015 | 00:00 | Dmitry MININ

The Ukraine’s government is losing independence unable to stop the internal fight between the clans of tycoons. For instance, the current stand-off between Ukrainian big business tycoon Igor Kolomoisky, the governor of the Dnipropetrovsk Region (one of the most important regions of the country) and President Petro Poroshenko was stopped only after the US embassy directly interfered to support the head of state. Poroshenko would not dare launch an open attack against Kolomoisky or, all the more, fire him without Washington’s say so…

27.03.2015 | 00:00 | Nikolai BOBKIN

With the support of other Arab countries Saudi Arabia launched airstrikes in neighboring Yemen on March 26. The aircraft attacked the positions of Shia formations in Sana, the capital of the country… Besides air operations, Saudis have pledged to contribute 150,000 soldiers with heavy weapons to the newly formed coalition including Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar… Egypt has already said it is ready to send army, air force and naval units to the area. Another war has begun in the Middle East…

Events in Greece Could Follow the Cypriot or Argentine Scenario

26.03.2015 | 09:45 | Valentin KATASONOV

…With the debt and financial situation the way it is, Brussels (EU), Frankfurt (ECB) and Washington (IMF) can hardly risk making drastic decisions regarding Greek debt. After all, the response could be a declaration of default on the Greek government’s obligations, which total around ¨ 320 billion. It would be more than enough to cause a chain reaction involving the bankruptcies of European banks and companies which, in turn, could bring on government defaults and the collapse of the house of cards known as the European Union…

Hypocrisy Empire (IV)

26.03.2015 | 00:00 | Dmitry MININ

The Middle East is a good example of Washington s hypocrisy. The US-inspired ‘Arab Spring’ hit the region like a sand storm resulting in hundreds of thousands of deaths… Nobody rushes to take on the responsibility for staging the recent great upheavals, though it s easy enough to see who was behind those events – the National Security Council (NSC) chaired by President. Since August 2010 the NSC worked out a number of political directives signed by President to prompt the ‘democratization’ of the region. The presidential policy directive (PPD) – was followed by PPD – to address the issue of ‘Political and Economic Reform in the Middle East and North Africa’…

Yemen Beware as it Threatens US-backed Order

25.03.2015 | 14:41 | Finian CUNNINGHAM

The crisis in Yemen is the latest manifestation of the old order desperately trying to cling on to a dwindling power base. That old order has been backed by the United States and its allies among the Persian Gulf Arab dictatorships as a bulwark against a popular uprising that could lead to democratisation in the poorest Middle Eastern country. If such an outcome were to succeed, the repercussions for the autocratic Gulf monarchies would be deeply destabilising. Saudi Arabia, which shares a southern border with Yemen, is the primary concern for this spreading ‘instability’…

General David Petraeus: Back into the National Spotlight

25.03.2015 | 00:00 | Anton VESELOV

Another scandal is on the rise in the United States and David Petraeus, former CIA Director and four-star Army four General, is in focus again… It looked like his career was over, the reputation in the puritan America was damaged and he no longer had a chance to work for the government. Not that easy. General Petraeus can fight his final battle during the 2016 presidential race. Hillary Clinton is going to be the leading candidate to run on the Democratic ticket. As a Republican, David Petraeus has something to say about it…

Will ´Big Sixª Lose Historic Opportunity to Close Iran s Nuclear Dossier?

25.03.2015 | 00:00 | Nikolai BOBKIN

The next round of talks on Iran s nuclear program is scheduled on March 26 – the day US State Secretary John Kerry is to meet his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif in Lausanne, Switzerland. The chances for reaching an agreement till the end of March are bleak… On March 23, 367 House lawmakers signed an open letter to President Barack Obama warning him that any nuclear deal with Tehran will effectively require congressional approval for implementation to prevent any chance of going nuclear… America wants the regional influence of Iran weakened. Actually, that s what Americans have been doing since the revolution in Iran took place 36 years ago. Israel and Saudi Arabia remain to be the leading regional allies of United States. They represent the main forces opposing the agreement between P5+1 and Tehran. With sanctions lifted and international isolation ended, Iran becomes a regional superpower…

Cameron Invokes Thatcher with Cheap Propaganda Stunt

24.03.2015 | 09:51 | Finian CUNNINGHAM

…With only weeks to go to the British national election and the re-election of a Conservative-led government in doubt after five years of brutal economic austerity, Cameron made the bizarre announcement last week that Britain is going to fund ‘free market reforms’ and ‘good governance’ in eastern European countries. The move invited comparisons with Cold War era British premier Margaret Thatcher who at the end of the 1980s launched a similar programme to assist former Soviet Bloc countries adopt ‘free market reforms’…

‘Merciful Angel’ and Ukraine

24.03.2015 | 00:00 | Maria VOINOVA

Last December President Poroshenko submitted a bill to the parliament on ending the country’s non-aligned status. The bill was voted into law, the status was abandoned. NATO membership was declared to be a national priority… Ukrainian social networks and media often mention Serbia s plans to join the North Atlantic alliance when it comes to discussing the Ukraine-NATO relationship. On March 24, Serbia marks the 16th anniversary of NATO bombings. This is the time to remember what happened then. Perhaps these reminiscences will cool down the Ukraine’s enthusiasm towards the idea of ‘Euro Atlantic integration’…

London Gold Fix Closed Sign of Drastic Changes the World Financial System Is To Go Through

23.03.2015 | 09:04 | Valentin KATASONOV

The closer of London Gold Fix (LGF) on March 20 is big news. The first London gold fixing was performed in 1919; it had a short way to go till its anniversary… For many years LGF was perceived to be an ideal instrument for fixing the gold price on the world market, especially for individual contracts and derivatives (paper gold)… The elimination of LGF is part of big game played by the ‘money bosses’ the Rothshilds and Rockefellers (both are the leading shareholders of US Federal Reserve System). Gold is what the Rothchilds are after, while the Rockefellers rely on the dollar the world currency the Federal Reserve System issues…

The Neo-Con Attempt to Rewrite the History of World War II

23.03.2015 | 00:00 | Wayne MADSEN

After the fall of the Soviet Union, former U.S. president and one-time Cold Warrior Richard Nixon devoted the last few remaining years of his life to ensuring that Russia found its proper place in the international community. Nixon advised then-president Bill Clinton on the proper way to deal with the Russian Federation, the internationally-recognized successor state to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. One thing that Nixon would have never tolerated was the current neo-conservative penchant to deny Russias major role in World War II s known in Russia as the Great Patriotic War victory of the Allies over Nazi Germany…

Program of Assistance to Ukraine IMF and Kiev Join Together in Bluff Effort

22.03.2015 | 11:40 | Valentin KATASONOV

US Franklin Resources, an American holding company, is the largest holder of Ukraine s bonds… Franklin Resources company belongs to financial ‘vultures’ which don’t restructure debts. They normally undermine the accords on restructuring reached with other investors… The Ukraine’s debt restructuring program will not yield the expected $15, 3 billion. It means that Ukraine may not get the next $5 billion tranche and the whole program so much praised and publicized by the International Monetary Fund may become just another example of financial impracticable scheme…

Intriguing Moments of EU Russian Policy

22.03.2015 | 00:00 | Arkady DZIUBA

…The anti-Russian consensus in Europe formed after the Malaysian Boeing tragedy, when the plane was hit by someone who was pursuing a very definite goal, is waning and the European Union uses murky wording to cover it up. No matter all the declarations made by officials about European and transatlantic unity, media openly discusses the split on the issue of anti-Russia sanctions… It s too early to say there a change in EU policy looming. But, definitely, there is a need to alter the course. It s not just the economic interests of business dealing with Russia. It s the fate of the European project itself…
