The Cat in the Box: Quantum Social Democracy and the Uncertainty Principle By S. Artesian

28 February 2015 — The Wolf Report: Nonconfidential analysis for the anti-investor

Richard Seymour, VIB, wrote on SIP Louis Proyect’s chat-list:

No formal count was taken at this meeting, but according to Stathis Kouvelakis, 30 MPs were out of the room when the vote was taken and 40 abstained or voted against.  If this is right, then a third of those present voted against.  He recounts that most speakers – some 80 MPs – criticised the deal, in an emotional and turbulent meeting that went on for 12 hours.

Yani and the Hand Jive By S. Artesian

27 February 2015 — The Wolf Report: Nonconfidential analysis for the anti-investor

I know a cat named Doctor Yani…

He’s got a real cool job, jivin’ for money
He knows just what makes the eurozone tick
He does that hand jive just for kicks

On Tuesday, February 24, 2015,  the Syriza government of Greece presented its “first comprehensive list of reform measures” to the president of the Eurogroup.  The Eurogroup is what  the committee made up of the finance ministers of countries using the euro as currency is called when it actually meets.

Tony Blair and the Hidden Agenda of Serbian Policy

28.02.2015 | 00:00 | Pyotr ISKENDEROV

The appointment of former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair as advisor to the head of the Serbian government, Aleksandar Vu?i?, has rocked the media. The Russian television channel RT referred to the decision as an attempt at the «political suicide» of the Serbian prime minister… The principle of running with the hare and hunting with the hounds is a bad principle. Attempts to have a foot in both camps have little in common with the art of diplomacy and rarely end well…

A taste of Israeli apartheid, courtesy of Waitrose

25 February 2015 — PSC

‘Taste of Israel’ is a glossy, colour 32-page booklet which is being offered to shoppers at the supermarket chain, Waitrose, this month.

The booklet passes off Palestinian/Arab dishes and ingredients such as za’atar, tahini and falafel as Israeli. And it contains tourist features on towns within Israel which, while mentioning their Ottoman past, ignore their Palestinian heritage and the ethnic cleansing of their Palestinian inhabitants during the creation of Israel.

Black Agenda Report for 26 February 2015: Chicago Stuns Rahm Emanuel, Student Debt Strike, Silence on Libya

26 February 2015 — Black Agenda Report

by BAR managing editor Bruce A. Dixon

Despite support from local black & Latino politicians former Obama chief of staff and Rahm Emanuel failed to win re-election as Chicago mayor on Feb. 24. He faces an April 7 runoff election against Jesus Garcia, longime community activist who was part of the Harold Washington team in 1983 and 87. Anti-Rahm turnout was boosted by public outrage at school closings and other privatizations, and advisory referenda on an elected school board.

Media Lens: ‘Corrosive, Shallow, Herd-Like And Gross’ – Peter Oborne And The Corporate Media

25 February 2015 — Media Lens

Last week, Peter Oborne resigned as chief political commentator at the Telegraph, writing:

‘The Telegraph’s recent coverage of HSBC amounts to a form of fraud on its readers.’

And yet Oborne is no radical. He describes how, five years ago, he was invited to join the newspaper:

‘It was a job I was very proud to accept. The Telegraph has long been the most important conservative-leaning newspaper in Britain, admired as much for its integrity as for its superb news coverage.’

24 hours late, and € 240 billion short

24 February 2015 — The Wolf Report: Nonconfidential analysis for the anti-investor

1. A day late and more than a dollar short, Yanis Varoufakis submitted a “program” of reforms to the Eurozone finance ministers (Eurogroup) regarding the Greek government’s development and implementation of tax policies, public finance management, revenue administration, public spending, social security reform, public administration and corruption, instalment schemes, labor market reforms, product market reforms, better business environment, judicial system reforms, banking and non-performing loans, privatisation and public asset management, statistics, and last and certainly least,  the humanitarian crisis where Yanis sums it up perfectly, puts a cherry on it, wraps it with a bow, seals it with a kiss

The Anti-Empire Report #137 By William Blum: A Greek Tragedy

24 February 2015 — The Anti-Empire Report

The Greek Tragedy: Some things not to forget, which the new Greek leaders have not.

American historian D.F. Fleming, writing of the post-World War II period in his eminent history of the Cold War, stated that “Greece was the first of the liberated states to be openly and forcibly compelled to accept the political system of the occupying Great Power. It was Churchill who acted first and Stalin who followed his example, in Bulgaria and then in Rumania, though with less bloodshed.”

Bruiseology By S. Artesian

23 February 2015 — The Wolf Report: Nonconfidential analysis for the anti-investor

The Syriza government has postponed submitting its proposed list of “reforms” to the European Union.  The “reforms” were due on Monday, 23 February, but the Syriza ministers won’t be ready until tomorrow.  Indeed.  That–“won’t be ready until……”– describes Syriza’s leadership perfectly.

A Sense of Urgency By S. Artesian

22 February 2015 — The Wolf Report: Nonconfidential analysis for the anti-investor

A comrade, and I use this word only when it is warranted, has remarked elsewhere that he has rarely seen me so engaged as I am with the issues raised by events in Greece.  Indeed, he’s right– to the extent that all my other engagements, posts, analyses, are and are supposed to be preparation, practice for the “real thing”… the real thing being class struggle, the point when “economics” is exposed as a social relation of production, and the social relation of production is exposed as…temporary, destructive, and self-destructive.

Egypt – Confrontation with Radical Islamism

21.02.2015 | 00:00 | Boris DOLGOV

…It can be assumed that terrorist attacks against Egypt by the Islamic State (IS) have been prompted by the Egyptian leadership’s policy on rapprochement with Russia, including military-technical cooperation, which was strengthened after President Putin’s recent visit to Egypt. IS is a threat to Russia as well as Egypt, due to the Islamists’ threats of a «jihad to liberate Chechnya.» Expanded cooperation between Russia and Egypt in the fight against radical Islamism, as well as Russia’s military and political support for actions against IS in Libya, is in the mutual interests of both Cairo and Moscow.

Is Washington Preparing to Wage War on Russia? By Prof. John McMurtry

Seeing through the Official Lies on Ukraine

Truce on the First Anniversary of the US-Led Coup

“We can no longer find any willingness on the part of Poland to conduct serious negotiations with us. These proposals for mediation have failed because [of ] – – Polish mobilization.” (Adolph Hitler, 1939)

These are the words of Adolph Hitler just before invading Poland and then the Soviet Union. I have replaced Poland with Russia (see below) to show the analogy of US and Nazi pretexts.

“We can no longer find any willingness on the part of Russia to conduct serious negotiations with us. These proposals for mediation have failed because [of ] – – Russian mobilization.”

Obama’s “Fake War” against the Islamic State (ISIS). The Islamic State is Protected by the US and its Allies By Prof Michel Chossudovsky

19 February 2015 — Global Research

Since August 2014, the US Air Force with the support of a coalition of 19 countries has relentlessly waged an intensified air campaign against Syria and Iraq allegedly targeting the Islamic State brigades.

According to Defense News, over 16,000 airstrikes were carried out from August 2014 to mid January 2015. Sixty percent of the air strikes were conducted by the US Air Force using advanced jet fighter and bombing capabilities (Aaron Mehta, “A-10 Performing 11 Percent of Anti-ISIS Sorties”. Defense News, January 19, 2015.)

The Strategic Implications of the Battle for Debaltsevo By The Saker

18 February 2015 — The Saker

The Novorussians are in control of most of Debaltsevo (officially 90%, officially 100% as of midnight GMT). More relevantly, there is no more organized resistance. Russian sources say that about 1000 junta soldiers have refused to surrender and are hiding in the outskirts or have fled to the south end of the cauldron. The Novorussians are not even bothering to hunt them down or return their sporadic (and inaccurate) fire: they are waiting for hunger and cold to force them to give up. A spokesman for the Novorussians has reported that all communications between the junta forces in the cauldron and their commanders have been suppressed. Russian TV stations are showing footage of Novorussian soldiers raising their flag over the center of the city.

Black Agenda Report February 18, 2015: CBC, the Cowardly Black Caucus, US Empire & ISIS, Angry White Man Kills Again

18 February 2015 — Black Agenda Report

by BAR managing editor Bruce A. Dixon

The CBC is silent when Israel passes discriminatory laws, steals Palestinian land, or punishes Palestinian civilians with power and water cutoffs and blockades. Like the rest of Congress, the CBC endorsed the murderous Israeli assault on Gaza. CBC’s threatened walkout on Netanyahu’s address to Congress isn’t not because they disapprove of Israeli apartheid funded by US tax dollars. It’s only because Bibi insulted the First Black President.

IMF Loans to Ukraine: Deadly “Economic Medicine” Aimed at Total Destabilization By Ernst Wolff

17 February 2015 — Global Research

imf-ukraineOn February 12, Christine Lagarde, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, announced that the IMF had reached an agreement with the Ukrainian government on a new economic reform program. Ms Lagarde’s statement, made in Brussels, came only minutes after peace negotiations between the heads of the German, French, Russian und Ukrainian governments in Minsk, Belarus, had ended. The timing was no coincidence. Washington had been left out of the negotiations and now reacted by sending its most powerful financial organization to the forefront in order to deliver a clear message to the world: that the US will not loosen its grip on the Ukraine, if not by sending weapons, then at least economically and financially.
