1. Pluto Press Takeover
Throughout April we are hosting three events based on new titles published by Pluto Press. Pluto is one of the world’s leading radical publishers, specialising in progressive, critical perspectives in politics and the social sciences. Based in London, they’ve been active for over 40 years with more than 800 titles in print by authors such as Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, John Pilger, Susan George, Ziauddin Sardar, Greg Palast, Eduardo Galeano and Vandana Shiva.

2. ‘The Punk Kings of Dyslexia’ with Stephen Micalef and Shanne Bradley
Wed 29th March, 7pm
An evening with infamous poet and punk-zine writer Stephen Micalef, who will be reading from his book The Punk Kings of Dyslexia, and talking all things Sniffin’ Glue. Stephen will be joined by Shanne Bradley, one of the original ‘She Punks’, founder of the ‘The Nipple Erectors’, putting Shane McGowan in the band and giving him his first break. She later founded ‘The Men They Couldn’t Hang’ as well.

8. ‘Surviving The Future: culture, carnival, and capital in the aftermath of the market economy’ with Shaun Chamberlin
Wednesday 12th May, 7pm
Shaun Chamberlin introduces the posthumous work of David Fleming, who explored practical ways of repairing and replacing the atrophied social structures on which most human cultures are built, so as to form the basis of a cohesive society that might survive the turbulent times to come.

G by John Berger
“a brilliant novel about the search for intimacy in history’s private moments”, this 1972 novel by influential art critic John Berger also won the Booker Prize.
Thursday 11th May
Citizen: An American Lyric
by Claudia Rankine
Blurring the lines between prose, poetry and social criticism, this book by American poet Claudia Rankine explores the politics of race and the imagination in the United States.

10. London Pacifism and Nonviolence Discussion Group
Housmans has a regular Pacifism and Nonviolence Discussion Group, who meet on the second Tuesday of the month. All are welcome, but please be prepared to join in the discussion. Please try to turn up by 7pm sharp.
In APRIL(on Tuesday 11 April) we will be discussing NONVIOLENCE AND MENTAL HEALTH. And in May (on Tuesday 9 May) our theme will relate to PACIFISM AND CONSCIENTIOUS OBJECTION; the precise topic will be announced shortly.
