Trump’s criminal attack on Venezuela has thrown Cuba into a tailspin of crisis as the island nation lost access to the oil that had been its most important source of energy in recent decades, making up for the loss of oil from the former Soviet Union. A month ago, with Cuba plunged in powercuts, Trump told reporters ‘“I believe I will have the honour of taking Cuba,” “I mean, whether I free it, take it – I think I could do anything I want.” But can he? Though Cuba is a tiny island nation of fewer than 10 million people, it did not succumb to nearly 70 years of unremitting hostility, threats and sanctions from Washington and it not about to.
