1. Student article competition

Red Pepper and Housmans are pleased to announce our first student article competition. Entries are invited from all students on undergraduate courses in a UK public higher education institution. The top entry will be published in Red Pepper and the author will win £100 worth of books from Housmans Bookshop and a one-year subscription to the magazine. For more information please visit:

2. Housmans sale continues into February

Drawing on his extensive research and travels as a social anthropologist, Brian Morris explains the crucial importance of socialist anarchism as the only political tradition that offers an authentic complement to ecological thought.

4. The Kettled Generation Speaks Out!

The editor of music magazine ‘The Wire’ discusses his new book on the dynamic changes within British folk music over the past century.

6. The Short Film Movement
Saturday 12th February, 3pm
Free entry, but booking essential

The Short Film Movement is a loosely aligned group of nonconformist film makers, based in and around London. In their second visit to Housmans they will be screening a selection of their unique brand of films, on this occasion exploring the subject of free will and predestination. Entry for the event is free, but there is very limited space: to book please email nik@housmans.com

7. ‘Canada’s Genocide: One Man’s Journey to Uncover the Truth’
with Rev Kevin Annett
Wednesday 23rd February, 7pm
£3, redeemable against any purchase

Annett discusses his investigations into what he terms “the Canadian genocide”, perpetrated by three major church organisations, and resulting in the alleged deaths of over 50,000 indigenous people, as explored in his new book ‘Unrepentant: Disrobing The Emperor’.
