14 October 2011 — Jazz on the Tube

A live performance filmed in 1958 Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers play “Moanin'”, composed by the pianist Bobby Timmons, from their album of the same name and also my very first Jazz Messengers album. With Lee Morgan on trumpet, Benny Golsen tenor saxophone and Jymie Merritt bass. Blakey’s press rolls just blew me away and put me off learning to play the drums. One track especially on this album titled ‘Blues March’, with its march time that morphs into a funky blues. The very essence of Bebop. Fantastic!
