1. Housmans New Year Clearance Sale now on!

We have just started a bumper Housmans new year clearance sale, which will be running through to late February, and possibly into March.  We have lots of stock to clear, so expect stacks of new books at greatly reduced prices, as well as some  quality second-hand books that we have been keeping aside.

Many titles have been reduced by 50% or more, alongside hardbacks which have been reduced to their subsequently published paperback prices. More stock will be added as the sale goes on, so it’s worth checking in more than once to see what’s been put out.

There’s also plenty of titles in our £1 Bargain Basement, and hopefully by as soon as next week, once renovation work is complete, we should have a brand-new, well-lit, well-ordered, second-hand basement section open and ready to go.

2. Peace News WW1 event & campaign

Our sister organisation Peace News are hosting the following event:

‘To End All Wars’ with Adam Hochschild 17/01/2014
, Friends House, Euston

Renowned US author Adam Hochschild (King Leopold’s Ghost, Bury the Chains) talks about his recent book ‘To End All Wars: A Story of Loyalty and Rebellion, 1914 – 1918? – the only recent history of WW1 to foreground the anti-war movement.

Peace News are also asking for support for the their kickstarter project: “a visual celebration of the people and movements that opposed the First World War”. They’re halfway there in terms of funding.

Please check the Housmans website for full details. http://www.housmans.com/events.php

A second late addition is ‘People Power and Nonviolent Action: Launch of New Guide’ with contributing editors April Carter and Michael Randle discussing the vital influence and importance of nonviolent techniques in civil movements across the globe, and introducing their new book ‘A Guide to Civil Resistance: A Bibliography of People Power and Nonviolent Protest Vol.1’ (£10, Green Print, 2013).
