2. Anarchist Federation present: ‘Revolutionary Women’ with Nick Heath
Wednesday 3rd February, 7pm

Nick Heath uncovers the stories of revolutionary women, who not only fought, but in many cases spearheaded revolutionary situations, and who have passed without mention in the history books.

3. ‘The Hammer Blow – how 10 women disarmed a warplane’ with Andrea Needham
Wednesday 10th February, 7pm

Peace campaigner Andrea Needham discusses her book detailing her involvement alongside another nine women in the daring disarmament of a Hawk warplane bound for Indonesia.

4. ‘The Influencing Machine’ with Mike Jay
Tuesday 16th February, 7pm
Mike Jay discusses the fascinating story of James Tilly Matthews, a Londoner swept up in the movement for progressive political reform in the late1700s. The first documented case of paranoid schizophrenia, Matthew’s insisted his mind was controlled by a machine for espionage purposes – yet many of the incredible conspiracies in which he claimed to be involved were entirely real.

5. KEY CONCEPTS SERIES: ‘Postanarchism’ with Saul Newman
Wednesday 17th February, 7pm

The first in a series of events at Housmans called Key Concepts, aimed at introducing core concepts in the social sciences. Saul Newman will be discussing the new theoretical ideas that have come to be termed as postanarchism, which differentiate contemporary anarchism from that of the classical, 19th century period.

6. LGBT HISTORY MONTH BOOK LAUNCHES 
‘Consequences’ with Elizabeth J. Lister and ‘Kissyface’ with Elsa Wallace 
Thursday 25th February, 7pm – FREE ENTRY

As part of LGBT history month, Paradise Press, one of the largest and longest-running gay publishers, presents an evening of author readings at Housmans, including Elizabeth J. Lister and Elsa Wallace.

7. The Fuse Book Club – forthcoming titles
Housmans has a monthly book club which usually meets on the second Thursday of the month, starting at 7pm in the shop. Forthcoming titles under discussion are:

8. London Pacifism and Nonviolence Discussion Group
Housmans has a regular Pacifism and Nonviolence Discussion Group, who meet on the second Tuesday of the month. All are welcome, but please be prepared to join in the discussion. Please try to turn up by 7pm sharp.

At the next meeting on 9 February 2016 we will look at RESISTING MILITARISM IN EVERYDAY LIFE.
