The New Dark Age

Left-wing media outlet The Canary and Workers’ Party leader George Galloway have both had their bank accounts closed by LLoyds Banking Group without explanation. Given they are critics of western imperialism and Israel’s genocide in Gaza, I think we can all work out what’s happening here.

The Canary announced that its bank account had been frozen back in June 2026 and that Lloyds was withholding a substantial sum of money. This came shortly after the outlet launched a newspaper that had gone on sale in thousands of newsagents across the UK.

By early September, The Canary had a second bank account with Metro frozen, forcing it to suspend operations because it was no longer able to pay staff. The Canary notes that its staff also had their social media accounts hacked, restricted, or removed. Just recently someone was also trying to hack into my Twitter account. Clearly this is not just about banking.

George Galloway, the veteran politician, Workers Party of Britain leader, and broadcaster has announced that Bank of Scotland closed his accounts “without explanation or notice.” His parliamentary and state pensions were paid into them. He had been a customer of the bank for 39 years and had his mortgage with them. He is now suing Lloyds Banking Group for alleged breaches of the law.

While the rules state that banks must give 90 days notice before account closure, this only applies to accounts opened after 28 April 2026. It’s one of those measures that looks like it’s there to protect people, but doesn’t actually protect 99.9% of us.

The banks insist it’s not their policy to close bank accounts based on political or personal beliefs. They simply say they have terms and conditions that allow them to close bank accounts that have not met legal or regulatory conditions. Of course, you can always find an excuse to close someone’s bank account if your reasons are vague enough.

In October 2025, The Grayzone had their PayPal account suspended because they received two donations totalling $40 from an Iranian-born man who lives in Sydney. Clearly this was proof the Grayzone was funded by the IRGC! Even mentioning Iran in a donation note is enough for a payment to be rejected by PayPal.

Not sure what the excuse for closing the Canary’s bank accounts will be, but in the case of Galloway, it will almost certainly be that he has spent time in Russia and China. Galloway is not letting the matter lie—he has posted on Twitter that he will find out who gave the order through an injunction, so watch this space.

There is almost certainly deep state involvement here. We know from Paul Mason’s leaked emails from a few years back that intelligence agents have discussions about how to stop independent media. I’m not alleging that Paul Mason was behind these suspensions, I’m simply using this as an example of how these people think and operate.

Astroturf groups caused an advertiser boycott of The Canary a few years back. That failed to finish the outlet so the deep state hatched a new plot. Needless to say, someone at Lloyds did not wake up one morning and decide to debank The Canary and Galloway. They were either given an excuse or told to find one.

This is incredibly disturbing, but also predictable. I’ve been warning people for some time where this is heading. The establishment will go for the low hanging fruit first. If this doesn’t have a chilling effect, they will continue picking off unruly independent media outlets until the rest fall in line.

They know that traditional media is dying and independent media is taking over. They are now trying to do to independent media what they did to corporate media, i.e., make journalists so terrified of criticising the establishment, that no one ever does. We are approaching a point where meaningful dissent will become impossible.

If you are debanked, you are effectively cut off from society. It’s a way for the deep state to end free speech without legally ending it. They are simply outsourcing government censorship. If you can no longer keep a roof over your head or buy food because of your political views, then you do not live in a free society.
