2. What is wrong with using Amazon?
We would love you to use our online bookshop, which we see as an ethical alternative to Amazon. But why shouldn’t you use Amazon? It’s a fair question. Amazon has achieved an unrivalled supremacy over the marketplace, but this near-monopoly wasn’t achieved without the usual unethical practices that are so common to the world’s biggest corporations. Here are a few reasons why Amazon deserve boycotting… Follow the link to learn more.

4. ‘Fighting Fascism in London’ with David Renton
Wednesday 11th August, 7pm
Dave Renton will be discussing the anti-fascist struggles Londoners have engaged in over the years, taking in East Enders’ resistance against Mosley’s Black Shirts in the 1930s, the Anti-Nazi League fights of the 1970s, right up to today’s struggles against the BNP and the English Defence League.
5. ‘How to Live Free in London’ with Katharine Hibbert
Saturday 14th August, 5pm
Journalist Katharine Hibbert decided to give it all up for a year: no job, no rented flat, no shopping, no debit card and no travel pass, walk the streets with only a backpack and spend a year living off the food, clothes, other goods and accommodation that would otherwise go to waste. It would be a year of squatting, scavenging and no spending. The experience has changed her life, and she is now an active member of the Advisory Service for Squatters. Join Katharine to find out all you need to know about living free in London.
6. ‘The Short Film Movement’
Saturday 21st August, 3pm
London indy film-makers screen political and nonconformist shorts at Housmans. Very limited spaces: to book email nik@housmans.com
7. ‘Dan Chatterton – London‘s One Man Revolution’ with The Freethought History Research Group
Wednesday 25th August, 7pm
The Freethought History Research Group remember Dan Chatterton: Communist atheist pamphleteer, bill poster, slum dweller, early birth control advocate, fierce public ranter, and one of the most fascinating and undeservedly obscure characters of the London radical scene in the second half of the 19th century.
