The Federation Council of Russia promotes the overcoming of the internal political crisis in Syria with constant contacts with Syrian MPs.
Valentina Matvienko, the speaker if the upper chamber of the Russian Parliament, said in her interview with ITAR–TASS that a group of Russian Senators will go to Damascus in the near future.
She said that Moscow ‘stands for stopping the violence in that country and for a reconciliation based on a constructive dialogue’. Matvienko mentioned the five principles of the settlement of the situation in Syria developed by Russia and the League of Arab States.
They are stopping the violence by all sides, unbiased monitoring, no foreign interference, access for humanitarian aid and support to Kofi Annan’s mission. – TASS
