US to Turn Ukraine into Second Chernobyl
26.04.2014 | 13:00 | Leonid SAVIN
The date of April 26, 2014 marks the 28th anniversary of the catastrophic explosion of the 4th reactor at the Chernobyl power plant. This is the time when alarming news is coming to evoke concern over the future of Ukraine’s nuclear industry.
The use of US-produced fuel for Soviet reactors is not compatible with their design and violates the security requirements. It could lead to disasters comparable with what happened in Chernobyl. The International Union of Veterans of Nuclear Energy and Industry (IUVNEI) issued the following statement on April 25, “Nuclear fuel produced by the US firm Westinghouse does not meet the technical requirements of Soviet-era reactors, and using it could cause an accident on the scale of the Chernobyl disaster, which took place on the 26th April 1986.”
On the Situation in the Korean Peninsula. The Peace Offensive of the DPRK (I)
26.04.2014 | 00:35 | Alexander VORONTSOV
For almost a year the world has been observing the development of the peace offensive of Pyongyang; this offensive began after the end of the acute military and political crisis in March-April 2013, when Pyongyang showed an uncompromising resolve to protect its sovereignty by all possible means and made many threatening statements. Now Pyongyang is demonstrating a desire to improve relations with all its opponents, but alas, this desire is not reciprocated…
Global Economy Confounds Washington’s War Mentality
25.04.2014 | 19:33 | Finian CUNNINGHAM
Washington’s threatened sanctions towards Russia, and the war that that entails, are seen as an untenable political agenda divorced from the all-important economic realm.
In pushing this agenda, Washington may be the one that finds itself isolated, not Moscow.
When Russia hosts the 21st World Oil Congress in mid-June there will be 500 company leaders in attendance, representing a who’s who of industry corporations. Also attending the summit will be 50 government ministers and delegates from over 100 countries.
So much for Washington’s threats of economic sanctions to isolate Russia…
Another calculation disturbing Western companies and investors is the fear that Russia may orient its huge economic potential more towards Asia. Russia is reportedly lining up gargantuan oil and gas deals with China and India, among other mega projects…
Punitive Action in South-East of Ukraine
25.04.2014 | 12:23 | Alexander DONETSKY
No matter the Geneva accords on de-escalation in Ukraine were signed on April 17, the situation in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions remains extremely tense.
The interim government launched what it calls an anti-terrorist (or a punitive) action operation against the people in the East. Some people who were present at the meeting of the interim rulers affirm that the decision to launch combat actions against the civilians was taken under the pressure of CIA director John Brennan.
The actions undertaken by the Kiev regime in the East of the country strictly contradict the accords between the United States, Russia, the European Union and Russia signed in Geneva a few days ago. Actually it makes all the diplomatic efforts applied so far go down the drain…
West-Imposed Sanctions Boost Russia-China Cooperation
25.04.2014 | 00:00 | Andrei AKULOV
New US sanctions punishing Russia for its actions in Ukraine are to be announced on Friday, April 25… The US diplomacy is also working behind the scenes. According to Russian Kommersant daily, the United States unsuccessfully tries to make China join the sanctions against Russia… President Obama discussed the possibility of China joining the West on March 24 while meeting Chinese leader Xi Jinping during the G7 summit in the Hague. Visiting China on April 15 Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov thanked China for its «unbiased position on Ukraine» and added that Beijing-Moscow ties had reached an «unprecedented height». The visit of Russian President Putin to China is expected on May 20…
The Outcome of Joe Biden’s Visit to Ukraine
25.04.2014 | 00:00 | Dmitry MININ
Ukrainian propaganda had tried to portray talks with US Vice-President Joseph Biden as an expression of America’s categorical support of the self-proclaimed Kiev government, but examining the content of the visit more carefully reveals Washington’s growing irritation with its minions in Ukraine. While supporting them for geopolitical reasons, the US is burdened with having to prove the ‘democraticness’ and legitimacy of a regime which, in reality, is neither democratic nor legitimate… The propaganda from Kiev, which separates protests into legal or illegal, contradicts the spirit and letter of the Geneva Declaration, which extends the concept of “de-escalating tensions” throughout the whole of Ukraine…

The CIA: Photoshopping a Crisis into a War
24.04.2014 | 00:00 | Wayne MADSEN
A major Central Intelligence Agency conspiracy operation is currently playing out in Eastern Ukraine where, in an age of Photoshop and mail order credentials and military patches, photographs of the same bearded Russian “special forces” commando in Slavyansk and Kramatorsk in Ukraine this year and Georgia in 2008 are being successfully parlayed to the corporate media and by the Ukrainian ambassador to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) headquarters in Vienna. The conspiracy operation follows closely on the heels of CIA director John Brennan’s visit to Kiev where he provided intelligence advice to the unelected junta now governing the country…
The OSCE in Ukraine and Russian Spring
24.04.2014 | 00:00 | Pyotr BODROV
In connection with the deepening crisis in Ukraine, representatives of several OSCE missions have famously arrived in the country. On 21 April, I had occasion to talk with two long-term observers with the OSCE Election Observation Mission, Anthony Robinson (Great Britain) and Lester Margosian (USA)… I got the impression that the mission is occupied with serious analytical work… The objectives and possible outcomes of this work are, as yet, unclear. One thing is clear, however. This is the first time that Europe and the US have dealt with Russians in Ukraine so attentively, and this is a result of the fact that in the southeast of Ukraine, they are calling for a ‘Russian Spring’.
De-escalation in Ukraine as Seen by Joe Biden (II)
23.04.2014 | 17:25 | Nikolai BOBKIN
According to the White House statement, the Vice-President Joe Biden’s visit to Ukraine was to demonstrate the support of Ukraine by the United States. Washington realizes the interim government in Kiev is on the verge of collapse. But its fall would be tantamount to a defeat suffered by the United States. Biden landed in Kiev to make the US save face and define the ways to retreat if need be. Under the pretext of global commitments, the White House is focused on the local-scale mission to maintain power in Ukraine in the hands of its puppets…
US NGOs in Ukraine – Washington’s Foreign Policy Tools or Biden Visits Kiev (I)
23.04.2014 | 00:00 | Nikolai BOBKIN
Vice-President John Biden came to Kiev to see with his own eyes how the events unfold in the country. The second part of the article will be devoted to the results of the visit. Here it’s important to state the fact that Ukraine serves as an irritant for Moscow which may turn into its enemy and that’s the only thing Washington needs Ukraine for. The situation in the country has deteriorated to the point of bringing it to the brink of civil war, but Washington does not care. The main thing is to keep the puppet regime in power. Biden is an author of «color revolutions» policy and the person responsible for staging unrest in other countries, for him Ukraine is just another testing ground no different from North Africa…
Why Are Southern and Eastern Ukraine Rebelling?
23.04.2014 | 00:00 | Alexander DONETSKY
The popular protest in the southeastern regions of Ukraine against the nationalists who carried out an armed coup d’état in Kiev is being linked – at the instigation of the U.S. State Department – with Russia’s interference in the internal affairs of a neighboring country. In fact, the outbreak of the civil protest movement in these industrial regions has nothing to do with the supposed schemes of Russian intelligence agencies. The immediate impetus for current events came from the seizure of power in Kiev by interest groups with an aggressive anti-Russian ideology; the deeper cause of the movement is rooted in the ethnic composition of the population and the history of the settlement and development of these lands…
What Will the FBI Do with Stolen Ukrainian Assets?
22.04.2014 | 00:00 | Valentin KATASONOV
Recently the U.S. State Department’s Office of the Spokesperson announced that the U.S. had sent a team of experts from the FBI, the Justice Department and the Treasury Department to assist Kiev in recovering stolen assets located abroad… The main part of Ukraine’s assets abroad formed as a result of illegal export of capital by high-ranking officials and oligarchs… In evaluating the likelihood of Ukraine recovering even a small part of the tens of billions of dollars which were taken from it and exported abroad, it is useful to recall the story of former Prime Minister of Ukraine Pavel Lazarenko. He is serving a prison sentence in the U.S. for money laundering… 15 years have passed since Lazarenko’s arrest in the U.S., but Ukraine has yet to receive a single dollar of the ex-prime minister’s frozen funds. And it never will…
That’s the Way it Started 70 Years Ago: Bloody Easter in Sky over Belgrade
22.04.2014 | 00:00 | Pyotr ISKENDEROV
Seventy years ago the people in Belgrade became victims of air strikes delivered by British-US aircraft. It happened as the holiday was marked on April 16, 1944. This day went down in history as Bloody Easter… As the tradition goes, Serbia remembers in prayers those who died in April 1944 as well as those who lost lives in the even more horrible bombings of 1999. They all became victims of the West’s policy towards the Slav peoples of South-Eastern Europe…
Who Hampers Peaceful Management of Ukraine’s Crisis?
21.04.2014 | 00:00 | Vladimir SEDOV
…Maidan has made Ukraine plunge into chaos. Only a comprehensive dialogue can lead the country out of the crisis. The people of the south-eastern part of the country should have their representation – the delegates they would choose and trust. Without giving them a chance to be heard, the four-party talks will inevitably hit snags, especially in view of obvious reluctance displayed by Kiev to comply with the provisions of the agreement reached in Geneva on April 17…
Presidential Elections in Ukraine To Be Held in Violation of Council of Europe Norms
21.04.2014 | 00:00 | Olga SHEDROVA
…The legislative changes adopted by the new Ukrainian government in violation of European standards for holding elections cannot but lead to the gross distortion of the will of voters. Such results will not reflect the entire gamut of the population’s political preferences. Large segments of Ukrainian citizens will thus be excluded from the political process…
Alle-Yulia! Redemption of Western Regime Change in Ukraine
20.04.2014 | 04:00 | Finian CUNNINGHAM
Convicted embezzler and former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko was on a tour of east Ukraine this Easter weekend talking about finding «compromise» and «national unity». She said she wanted to hear the grievances of the people in cities like Donetz, Kharkov and Slavyansk… Only a few weeks ago, Tymoshenko was caught saying in a private phone call how she wanted to turn pro-Russia eastern Ukraine into ash from a nuclear attack. In the same leaked phone call – which Tymoshenko confirmed as authentic – the disgraced politician also called for ethnic Russians opposed to the Kiev junta to be «whacked in the head» by death squads…
Geneva Agreement on Ukraine: Does it Stand a Chance?
19.04.2014 | 21:43 | Dmitry MININ
…The Kiev interim government exercises little control over the situation. It tries to get around the obligations envisioned by the Geneva agreement. The grapes of wrath are getting ripe among grassroots. The unfolding of events may take a dangerous turn. There is doubt Washington will follow through the reached agreement, as historic experience shows. No matter how hard diplomats try, in the long run the way out of Ukrainian crisis is creating conditions for expressing people’s free will in all parts of Ukraine…
