Aggression on Gaza and the reconciliation agreement†
Nadia Saad Al-Din, Middle East Monitor (MEMO)†9/17/2014
††††† No sooner was the Israeli occupation’s battle against the Gaza Strip over in a disappointing result for the Israeli “goal bank”- despite the crimes it committed against the Palestinian people – did the division between Fatah and Hamas arise once again, violating the agreement recently signed, conjuring scenes of dispute and conflict that reflect the weakness of the foundation of the reconciliation agreement in establishing national unity and building a base against the occupation’s attempts to seize both the Palestinian land and history.
†††† The sharp media attention went back and forth between the two parties since the “kidnapping” incident of the three settlers on July 12 and the subsequent Israeli aggression in the West Bank and then in the Gaza Strip, addressing the responsibility for the kidnapping and the first Egyptian initiative, followed by the ceasefire agreement, and both parties’ violations against each other and the legitimacy of the unity government’s work in Gaza before leading to the salary issue. However, no final solutions were reached in an effort to end the divisions.
†††† Due to the fact that the main points of the dispute are hiding a sharply contrasting variable, which floated to the surface when Hamas rejected Egypt’s first initiative because it did not meet the resistance’s conditions of stopping the aggression, lifting the siege and reconstructing Gaza and which, according to Hamas, only included a ceasefire with disregard for the other issues postponing them to later negotiations, without actually naming them.
†††† This is contrary to the subsequent agreement that was reached, through Egyptian mediation, and which came about through a unified Palestinian position and reflected the position of the resistance on the ground against the occupation. However, Fatah considered the two agreements to be similar and criticised Hamas’ position of rejecting the first and accepting the second after causing the Palestinian people to lose approximately 2,140 martyrs, causing 10,000 people to be i†more..†e-mail
From Hamas royalty to Israel s spy†
Mitchell Plitnick, Asia Times†9/16/2014
††††† WASHINGTON – The son of one of the founders of the biggest Palestinian militant group decides to work with Israel. He spends a decade working undercover with the Israeli security service, the Shin Bet, thwarting dozens of Palestinian attacks and contributing significantly to the arrest or elimination of dozens of leading Palestinian militants.†
†††† This sounds like the makings of a Hollywood big budget spy thriller. In fact, it is the plot of a documentary, The Green Prince, based on the autobiography of Mosab Hassan Yousef.†
†††† Yousef and his handler in the Shin Bet, Gonen Ben Yitzhak, narrate the film, which somewhat frenetically throws together surveillance footage and live interviews. Although the film tries to focus on the growing bond between Ben Yitzhak, “The Handler”, and Yousef, “The Asset,” there is an underlying tension in the film that is only partially due to the sense of overwhelming danger that Yousef faced on a daily basis.†
†††† The most obvious question that is raised by the film is “how does the son of Hassan Yousef, who helped found Hamas and is one of its most prominent leaders to this day, become a spy for Israel?”†
†††† The film itself offers only a very succinct answer to this question. As a youth, Mosab was arrested by Israel and was tortured in his interrogation, which was also when he was identified as a potential mole.†
†††† He was then sent to prison, where he witnessed far worse torture by Hamas activists, including murder, against fellow Palestinians they suspected might be Israeli agents. This, he said, convinced him to take up the Shin Bet’s offer to work for them.†more..†e-mail
Who are the terrorists the world needs to fight?†
Ma an News Agency†9/17/2014
††††† BEIRUT (AFP) — From Washington and Paris to Tehran and Damascus, it seems everyone agrees on the growing need to fight “terrorism.” What exactly the word means is another matter entirely.
†††† For the United States and its partners, there is no doubt the Islamic State militants who have seized swathes of Iraq and Syria count as terrorists.
†††† For Syria’s President Bashar Assad, the “terrorists” are all the opponents of h
is government — armed and unarmed. They in turn have branded his regime a “terrorist state.”
†††† Secessionists in eastern Ukraine, separatists in China’s restive Xinjiang region, student protesters in Venezuela — the terrorist label has been applied to them all.
†††† Two centuries after the term first appeared and more than a decade after the Sept. 11 attacks, however, a clear definition of a “terrorist” remains elusive.
†††† “The term ‘terrorist’ has expanded to the point that it just means ‘my enemy,'” said Marc Sageman, an ex-CIA agent, psychiatrist and author.
†††† “So we see things from our own perspective — if one of us: freedom fighter, if one of them: terrorist.”
†††† The build-up to the expanded US campaign against IS has seen the word in heavy use.
†††† US Secretary of State John Kerry last week spoke of a “major counter-terrorism operation” and French President Francois Hollande on Monday said “the fight of the Iraqis against terrorism is our fight as well.”†more..†e-mail
ISIS and Israel allies against a Palestinian state†
Jonathan Cook in Nazareth, Redress†9/10/2014
††††† An image speaks a thousand words and that is presumably what Israel s supporters hoped for with their latest advertisement in the New York Times.
†††† Two photographs are presented side by side. One, titled ISIS, is the now-iconic image of a kneeling James Foley, guarded by a black-hooded executioner, awaiting his terrible fate. The other, titled Hamas, is a scene from Gaza, where a similarly masked killer stands over two victims, who cower in fear.
†††† A headline stating This is the face of radical Islam tries, like the images, to equate the two organisations.
†††† We have heard this line repeatedly from Israel s prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, who tweeted Hamas is ISIS after the video of Foley s beheading aired. Last week, in a speech addressed to the family of Steven Sotloff, ISIS s latest victim, he called Hamas and ISIS tentacles of a violent Islamist terrorism .
†††† Travesty of the truth
†††† Netanyahu s depiction of Hamas and ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, which now calls itself Islamic State) as branches of the same poisonous tree is a travesty of the truth.
†††† The two have entirely different in fact, opposed political projects. ISIS wants to return to a supposed era of pure Islamic rule, the caliphate, when all Muslims were subject to God s laws (shari ah). Given that Muslims are now to be found in every corner of the globe, the implication is that ISIS ultimately seeks world domination.
†††† Hamas s goals are decidedly more modest. It was born and continues as a national liberation movement, seeking to create a Palestinian state. Its members may disagree on that state s territorial limits….†more..†e-mail

Convenient Genocide: Another Failed War to Re-Arrange the Middle East
Palestine Chronicle: 18 Sep 2014 – By Ramzy Baroud A few months ago, not many Americans, in fact Europeans as well, knew that a Yazidi sect in fact existed in northwest Iraq. Even in the Middle East itself, the Yazidis and their way of life have been an enigma, shrouded by mystery and mostly grasped through stereotypes and fictitious evidence. Yet in no time, the fate of the Yazidis became a rally cry for another US-led Iraq military campaign. It was not a surprise that the small Iraqi minority found itself a target for fanatical Islamic State (IS) militants, who had reportedly carried out unspeakable crimes against Yazidis, driving them to Dohuk, Irbil and other northern Iraqi regions. According to UN and other groups, 40,000 Yazidi had been stranded on Mount Sinjar , awaiting imminent genocide if the US and other powers didn t take action to save them. The rest of the story was spun from that…more
U.S. Treasury s Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence
Dissident Voice: 17 Sep 2014 – The Justice department would like to the see the UANI lawsuit go away as it is aware that what is being described as law enforcement documents would include both privileged and classified Treasury Department work product relating to individuals and companies that it has investigated for sanctions busting. Passing either intelligence related or law enforcement documents to a private organization is illegal but the Justice Department s only apparent concern is that the activity might be exposed. There is no indication that it would go after UANI for having acquired the information and it perhaps should be presumed that the source of the leak is the Treasury Department itself. Phil Giraldi Enforcing those AIPAC-endorsed sanctions has been the happy task of the U.S. Treasury s Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence.
