Fixing the broken mental health system

Tuesday, 2 April 2024 — Just Treatment

Did you know that the number of children referred to emergency mental healthcare has soared by more than 50% in three years?

Behind this troubling statistic, there are tens of thousands of stories of young people battling to get the care they need, and a broken system which is failing them every single day.

As someone who has relied on mental health services since the age of 6, I have seen first-hand the increasing impacts of NHS underfunding and of rampant privatisation in the sector. That’s why I’m so proud to now be working at Just Treatment, where we are organising to fight for change.

Our new campaign will be driven and led by people with lived experience of poor mental health or illness. Right now, we’re looking for people aged 18-30 who care about improving access to mental health care, and challenging the economic and corporate policies fuelling the youth mental health crisis. If this applies to you, we want to hear from you! Fill in our quick form to get in touch.

If you have a friend or family member aged 18-30 with lived experience of poor mental health, please share our form with them and encourage them to get involved too.

And if you’re not aged 18-30, but still have a story to share about the experience you or a loved one has had navigating mental health services, we’d love to read it. These testimonials help to inform our campaigns and bring even more people into this movement – so share your mental health story via our quick and easy form.

In the coming weeks and months we’ll be sharing more campaign actions and events which will challenge the corporations fuelling the youth mental health crisis and advance the policies that are needed to tackle it. So watch this space and get involved!

More soon,

May at Just Treatment

Just Treatment is fighting to put patients and the NHS before profit. We’ll never take a penny from corporate interests – that’s why we’re relying on your support.
