In addition to the fast attack nuclear submarine USS Newport News, there are about 4,500 Marines and sailors, including the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit.

At the grave of Berta Isabel Cáceres Flores (1971–2016) in La Esperanza, Honduras, where she was born and died, I watched a yellow butterfly flutter around a bougainvillea bush. It flew as if unconcerned, going from grave to grave in the quiet cemetery. Beside Berta’s grave is that of her brother, Carlos Alberto López Flores (1958–2004), a communist who studied at Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow and was a vital influence on the thinking of his younger sister. The other side of Berta’s grave remains empty. It awaits the body of Carlos and Berta’s mother María Austra Bertha Flores López – known as Mamá Berta – who buried two of her children. The yellow butterfly hovered above Berta’s grave, where there were new flowers from visitors who, like us, came to pay homage to this legendary fighter killed for defending the rights of Honduras’s Lenca people and the global struggle for social justice.

According to a GMO-boosterish article in the Telegraph, “Britain’s first genetically-edited (GE) foods will be on supermarket shelves in the new year as a result of Brexit freedoms. Crops which have been genetically edited to be tastier, longer-lasting and healthier will now be legally sold in England for the first time under the Genetic Technology (Precision Breeding) Act 2023.”The article says that among these products are “bread with less cancer-causing chemicals, longer-lasting strawberries and bananas, sweeter tasting lettuce and disease-resistant potatoes”. What it doesn’t say is that not only are hardly any of them ready for commercialisation, but none of them are necessary or even desirable. They certainly won’t provide any better solution to our food and farming problems than the non-GM solutions already available. GMWatch

I’ve never been a fan of Corbyn, even less, Corbynism (whatever that is) and I have never viewed him as a socialist, more of a liberal-lefty type, with his heart no doubt in all the ‘right places’ but above all, Corbyn is a Party Man, the Labour Party being his entire life, or rather, he was, until he was unceremoniously booted out after getting on for fifty years of loyal service. This alone should have taught him something about what the Labour Party is really all about. But has it? Is the nascent Your Party about to repeat the past, only this time as farce? Your Party’s beginnings do not bode well with all the usual suspects scrambling for position in the party’s pecking order. Not a pretty sight. And lurking in plain sight is the dead hand of the Zionist lobby.

Global hunger strike for Gaza set for Sept.16 – ‘Your hunger is our hunger’

The “We Are All Gaza, We Are All Palestine” network in al-Bireh in the occupied West Bank has called for the first-ever global hunger strike in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, set to begin on September 16 under the slogan “Your hunger is our hunger.”
Activists said trade unions and civil society groups across the occupied West Bank, including in al-Khalil, Beit Lahm, Ramallah, Nablus, Qalqilya, Jenin, and Tulkarm, are preparing to join, regardless of the tightened security measures.
They said the initiative is meant to pressure world leaders to end the Israeli war and lift the siege on Gaza, describing it as a collective response to the widespread suffering caused by deliberate food blockade and destroyed infrastructure that have left hundreds of thousands facing severe hunger.
Meanwhile, supporters worldwide are urged to fast and use social media to amplify the call for an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian aid delivery to Gaza.

Microsoft’s Azure cloud is now at the center of yet another investigation after leaked documents revealed that “Israel’s” Unit 8200 stored millions of intercepted Palestinian phone calls on its Azure cloud for mass surveillance and target identification purposes from both Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
In response, Microsoft has opened an “urgent” external inquiry, overseen by the US law firm Covington & Burling, marking the company’s second investigation in August into how its technology has been exploited by Israeli occupation forces.
The company stated that “using Azure for the storage of data files of phone calls obtained through broad or mass surveillance of civilians in Gaza and the West Bank” would be a breach of its terms of service.
