Could Obama “betray” Israel?
27.05.2011 | 00:02 | Dmitriy SEDOV
The most striking statement in US President Barack Obama’s speech on “the Arab Spring” was his appeal to Israel to return to the borders of 1967, in other words to abandon control over the occupied Palestinian territories. Some of the Republican senators immediately said that Obama’s proposal was “betrayal”…

Experts in Latin America believe that drug wars on the Mexico-U.S. border are being initiated by agents of the DEA, CIA and FBI. Huge sums are spent to provide financial and even military assistance to drug lords in Guatemala, Honduras: they are said to have been receiving arms, including grenade launchers and mines.Drug cartels are better armed than law enforcement forces and the army…

Strauss-Kahn and rambunctious final of “Washington consensus”
24.05.2011 | 19:24 | Elena PUSTOVOITOVA
The arrest of the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Dominique Strauss-Kahn onboard of the plane ten minutes before flying to Paris from New York shook the global mass media not less than the elimination of terrorist N 1 Osama bin laden in Pakistan. Does it mean that both of them, each in his own right, posed the same danger for the United States?

Moscow claims NATO’s action in Libya inadmissible
23.05.2011 | 18:18 | Irina LEBEDEVA (US)
Moscow largely specified its position on the Libyan issue at the end of last week. The Russian Foreign Ministry official spokesman, A. Lukashevich, said on May 20th that NATO attacks on Libya had been increasingly frequent with more civilians reported killed as a result. The coalition began to more often target such facilities of Libya’s state civilian management as a group of parliamentary buildings and the State Control Committee, which are located in the Libyan capital’s residential quarters… It follows from statements by the US Department of State that NATO seeks a regime change in Libya, said A. Lukashevich…

Obama’s Middle East speech: same old policy in new gift paper
23.05.2011 | 18:13 | Wayne MADSEN (USA)
With committed pro-Israeli operatives in his National Security Council and State Department, Obama’s message of “change” regarding America’s Middle East policy is just more of the same. Obama’s policy is not crafted by him but by Israel, working through its Lobby embedded in the White House, State Department, Pentagon, Congress, and the myriad of Israeli-controlled policy laundries at the Brookings Institution, American Enterprise Institute, Hudson Institute, Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs, and Washington Institute for Near East Policy…

Russia and Europe: Destination Unknown
21.05.2011 | 23:28 | Leonid IVASHOV
What are the real options for the interaction between Russia and Europe in the security sphere? First, both should realize that Russia, in Halford Mackinder’ terms, the continent’s heartland, is the backbone of the security of the nations of Eurasia. Secondly, Russia and Europe should jointly spell out the agenda for a new global configuration. The imposition of the US model for a new world order on mankind would have catastrophic consequences, while China has not unveiled an original concept for the global architecture and likely has nothing to offer…

US hopes to harness Arab revolution
21.05.2011 | 13:17 | Melkulangara BHADRAKUMAR
If one were to describe United States President Barack Obama’s long-awaited policy speech on the upheaval in the Middle East, it is best done in the hackneyed phrase – ‘old wine in new bottle’. The US hopes to harness the Arab Spring to perpetuate its geopolitical dominance in the Middle East. Obama’s speech betrays that the US’ interests invariably trump its professed ‘values’… The Arabs will see through the high-flown rhetoric and comprehend that the US is desperately trying to wrest control of their revolution…
