UK: Turn up the heat on the energy companies

13 February 2012Big Six Share

Our campaign to End the Big Six Energy Fix has got off to a fantastic start. I wanted to thank you for being one of the first to sign the petition. But we now need your help to turn up the heat on the energy companies.

Over 5000 have now signed the petition. But to make a big impact we need to quickly build mass support. We want to get to 10,000 signatures by the end of this week. To do so we need you to urge your friends, family, neighbours and co-workers to sign the petition.

To highlight the need for urgent action, as part of the campaign on Saturday The Independent revealed on its front page that the big six energy firms are due to make a £15bn windfall. Today however the true cost of energy profiteering really hit home, when it was revealed that deaths from hypothermia have doubled in the last five years.

This is why we need you to spread the word about our campaign:

Crucially with over 10,000 people signed up we can send a very loud message to the Big 6 and the Government that enough is enough – it’s time to end the energy fix.

Remember the energy fat cats want you to do absolutely nothing, so they can cash in their windfall bonuses and carry on as if it’s business as usual, whilst millions suffer in the cold. But you have the power stop this.

Don’t let the big six get away with it any longer by telling everyone that you know to sign the petition.

Let’s work together to End the Big Six Energy Fix and try to ensure that next winter nobody has to make the stark choice between heating or eating.

  1. I am eager to contribute in protest at the vast profits being taken from consumers, who at this time of year especially need methods of heating to survive the cold.

    1. Well I know signing a petition is a small step but it’s better than nothing. And if one million (or more) do sign it, then it sends a message. Ideally, I’d like to see this kind of struggle take place on a community level, along with issues like the privatizing of local councils under the guise of ‘co-operatives’. Our local communities are the only thing we have left with which to organize within. Sure, we have trade unions and they have part to play, but they now constitute only a fraction of the working population. I think that if we are to regain control over our lives, it will have to start at the local level. See ‘Lobby of Lambeth Council – 29 February 6pm at Lambeth Town Hall’ https://williambowles.info/?p=54633 for an example.
