Palestinian Detainees: no security in injustice
CAABU – Council for Arab-British Understanding 11/4/2012
      September 2012
     INTRODUCTION
The clanking of leg irons on a 13-year-old Palestinian boy as he entered the courtroom is a sound I will never forget. It was Kafkaesque; as if this boy could endanger anyone in the middle of an Israeli military base. What a Caabu delegation of British politicians witnessed in the ‘courtroom’ at Ofer was a mockery of law and process worthy of the term ‘kangaroo’. The children had so little faith in the proceedings that all they wanted to do was to see their parents and hear their news for the first time in weeks.
These scenes are not unusual. What this report outlines is the way in which entire generations of Palestinians have had to experience the humiliation and degradation of the Israeli military justice system, one of the most oppressive tools of the 45-yearold Israeli occupation. The unfairness of this system gained greater prominence in 2012 following hunger strikes by Palestinians in Israeli detention centres. For these reasons, Caabu has chosen to highlight this issue by taking seven delegations of Parliamentarians to visit military courts and detainees’ families since November 2010. But Palestinians also suffer at the hands of their own fledgling justice system. The weakness of due process and the ill-treatment highlighted in this report illustrate the need for more detailed monitoring and analysis in this area.
It is much easier to justify extreme measures – including violence – against people whom we do not see as human…. — See also:Martial law on the West Bank: Discrimination in action more.. e-mail

When an Israeli soccer game looks like a Klan rally
Larry Derfner, +972 Magazine 11/2/2012
It’s hard to say which is worse – the behavior of racist fans, or the tacit approval they get from Israeli sports officials and media.
I like to think that if you discount for the century of fighting with Arabs, Israel is still plenty racist, but no more than most societies. I remind myself that even the absolute worst display of Israeli racism – the chanting of monkey noises (“hoo-hoo-hoo!! hoo-hoo-hoo!!”) and the throwing of bananas at black players during soccer games – has been going on in Europe, too, and probably elsewhere. But what happened this week to Nigerian-born Israeli player Toto Tamuz shows a level of callousness to blatant, raw racism that I wonder how many countries could match.
On Monday, Tamuz scored the go-ahead goal against Beitar Jerusalem in the capital’s Teddy Stadium, and right afterward looked out at the crowd and put his index finger up to his lips to shush them. Immediately the referee penalized him for unsportsmanlike conduct: “provoking the crowd.” Since this was Tamuz’s second penalty of the game, he was automatically disqualified. His team, Hapoel Tel Aviv, went on to lose, 3-2.
It was only after a day of sports reporters and commentators praising the Beitar crowd for firing up the atmosphere with their mad-dog spirit that it became known why Tamuz tried to shush the crowd in the first place. He told Yediot Aharonot:
“I’ve never seen such racism in my whole life. … [two other black Hapoel players] and I were the last ones on the field. When we came out of the tunnel they started throwing bananas at us. We heard curses and racist chants. … [During the game] I heard their regular song, ‘Give Toto a banana,’ and a lot of other things I’m embarrassed to mention.” more.. e-mail

Israeli regime fabricated via cover-up: Alison Weir
Press TV 11/4/2012
“The true author of the Balfour Declaration was not Mr. Balfour. It was actually a man name Leopold Amery who was in fact a Zionist and a British man of Jewish background.” — Alison Weir
Video interview with Alison Weir – The following is a rough transcription. The Israeli entity has its roots in the Balfour Declaration, a formal statement of policy by the British government on November 2, 1917 regarding the establishment of a “Jewish homeland” in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Press TV: Do you think that since the creation of the Israeli regime, it has been guilty of committing war crimes? If you do believe that it has been, should the UK then be held responsible for supporting war criminals and enabling Tel Aviv to continue to ignore international law?
Weir: Certainly there’s no doubt that Israel has been guilty of war crimes from early on through to the present time. So that part has been well documented by numerous human rights organizations and legal entities have documented that part. In terms of the British responsibility especially regarding the Balfour Declaration, there’s a very, very important back story to this that is probably one of the most covered up aspects of this very covered up issue.
The fact is that it came out in a book a few years ago and in a few articles by Professor William Rubenstein who is a very well regarded Jewish British historian. He’s a member of the Royal Historical Society. He was president of the Jewish Historical Society of England.
….As Rubenstein wrote in his book and in his article that was published in History Today, he called this the most remarkable example of concealment in 20th century British history. — See also: CNI: The Secret of Leopold Amery more.. e-mail
