World Balance Reshaped

21.09.2013 | 00:00 | Nikolai BOBKIN

The United States has a custom of putting the countries, which have fallen out of its favor, on the “rogue states” list. Now it risks itself to be subject to international isolation.  The Washington’s world political center status is being lost, the Obama’s policy on Syria has happened to be short-sighted and strategically wrong. The America’s game with “foes of convenience” like Syria and Iran, has failed.  Nobody wants to join the United States in their fight against these states and the US claim to Middle East domination is being rejected more resolutely…

“Bandar Bush” Buys Votes for War on Syria

21.09.2013 | 00:00 | Wayne MADSEN

Multiple intelligence sources in Washington, London, Beirut, and Paris claim that Saudi intelligence chief Prince Bandar bin Sultan has paid off key members of the U.S. Senate and House leadership, as well as key ministers of the French government, with “incentive cash” to support an American and French “shock and awe” military strike on not only Syria but Hezbollah positions in Lebanon…The chief supporter and whip for French parliamentary support for a strike on Syria is Jean-Marc Ayrault, the Prime Minister. Although the pronunciation of “Ayrault” in Arabic means “penis,” the French Prime Minister, along with President Francois Hollande, became Bandar’s chief allies in Paris. Ayrault’s stance was backed by Finance Minister Pierre Moscovici who is a major supporter of Israel…

The U.S. vs. Brazil: From Espionage to Destabilization

20.09.2013 | 00:00 | Nil NIKANDROV

The espionage scandal which broke out after NSA employee Edward Snowden’s disclosures and which has strained relations between Brazil and the United States is gaining momentum.  More and more new details are coming to light about routine electronic spying  by U.S. intelligence on Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff and those surrounding her, including relatives and the leadership of the foreign ministry, the ministry of defense, and intelligence agencies.Rousseff was especially indignant that the NSA and CIA tapped all her telephones in the presidential office and in her residence.  The just demands of the Brazilian president not to delay the explanation and to deliver them in written form are being ignored by the White House…

On the True Aims of the War against Syria

20.09.2013 | 00:00 | Valentin KATASONOV

Each expert has his own assessment of Washington’s maneuvers around Syria and his own understanding of the aims of these maneuvers. There are as many understandings of the war being waged against Syria as there are experts writing on the topic of the Syrian crisis…In trying to clarify the true aims of Washington’s escalation of tensions around Syria when there are so many different expert opinions, one must not take the words of Barack Obama seriously. We will presume that the president has no understanding of the overall plan with regard to Syria. Nor do the Pentagon or American battlefield generals…

Fair Play – American Style

19.09.2013 | 12:00 | Dmitriy SEDOV

In accordance with the hard and fast rules of American type of fair play, the culprit of the crime committed in Syria is already known; the only thing left is to test the public opinion. But the world is rapidly changing. There are less and less people who believe the Washington-staged play is real.  Now Russia and its allies ask the United Nations to conduct a separate inquiry of the international crime related to the use of chemical weapons.  The witness reports, the tests of videos, comparison of data on real and invented victims will make come to the surface the fact of staging a large scale and foul provocation that led to bloodshed – something the White House is afraid of so much…

US Plan for Syria: Islamist Government without Chemical Weapons

19.09.2013 | 00:20 | Hannes HOFBAUER

There is no evidence so far for an American master plan. But a possible logic behind Washington’s drawback on bombing Syria need not be good news…Washington seems to be condemned to live with Islamist allies…Radical Islamic, jihadist groups in government may not be the best choice for Obama, but when America disposes them from chemical military capacities, their future reign in Syria will no more represent a danger for the USA – and for Israel. Seen under this aspect, US stepping back from a military strike for the moment does not aim at a peaceful solution, at good relations to Russia, or at giving up the plan for a regime change. On the contrary: Regime change could become less risky for Washington…

Misconstruing a UN Report: The Latest Neocon Tactic of Misinformation

19.09.2013 | 00:04 | Wayne MADSEN

The UN in Geneva has released its long-awaited report on the use of chemical weapons in the Damascus suburb of Ghouta on August 21…The UN report did not assign blame for the attack nor was assigning blame in the charter of the team of forensic investigators. However,  France and the United States immediately used the report to blame Syria for the attack…The quickness of the French and Americans to use the UN report to blame Assad’s forces for the chemical attack is designed to engineer through the UN Security Council a resolution authorizing the use of force against Assad  the moment Paris and Washington conclude that Assad is not abiding by his promise to turn over his chemical weapons to international inspectors. The Russian government is keen on not allowing the UN Report on the Ghouta attack to serve American, French, Saudi, and Israeli interests in authorizing the use of force against Syria…

Talented Mr Kerry Backslides on Russian Deal over Syrian Chemicals

18.09.2013 | 07:01 | Finian CUNNINGHAM

In recent weeks, Washington and its allies have judged that the political climate around the world and in their own countries is not conducive to an all-out military strike on Syria. Or, at least, not yet…In that way, it would appear that the deal hatched with Russia to decommission Syria’s chemical weapons is being used by Washington as an added lever for its criminal agenda of regime change… The haste with which the US, Britain and France have jumped to damning accusations against the Assad government over the UN chemical weapons report released this week is disturbingly consistent with their threat of military force. Shamelessly, these powers appear to be using the decommissioning of Syrian chemical weapons as a cover for legitimizing this aggression.

Aggression Against Libya: Looking at Past and Outlook for Future (II)

18.09.2013 | 00:00 | Alexander MEZYAEV

In Libya the so-called rebels committed mass crimes and atrocities. These findings are confirmed by the UN Independent Commissionof Inquiryon Libya… Everything that we saw in Libya is being repeated in Syria. The report by the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic  adduces testimony to gross violations of international humanitarian law by the rebels, no matter the report tries to vindicate their actions…The use of chemical weapons by rebels proves the fact that they are guilty of mass atrocities punishable by international law. The United States and other states which provide assistance to them are to be held accountable for these activities in accordance with international law…

The Genesis of the Syrian Crisis and the Perpetual War of the U.S.

17.09.2013 | 09:12 | Elena PONOMAREVA

The genesis of the Syrian crisis arises from the very nature of U.S. hegemony. However, why has Washington aimed for a “final resolution” of the Syrian issue right now? Why did they resort to their tried and true scheme of provocation? And why did they prepare so poorly? The staged nature of the video footage fobbed off on the world as “proof” of a chemical attack supposedly perpetrated by the Syrian army was obvious practically the next day!..But the provocateurs did not consider the logic of circumstances. They did not consider the fact that Russia has changed, as has the world. The unipolar system no longer exists, and Moscow no longer reacts to shouts from Washington the same way it did twenty years ago.At the same time, we must admit that the Syrian crisis is far from being resolved. It is only slightly frozen. Ahead lie tense and exhausting diplomatic battles…

Aggression Against Libya: Looking at Past and Outlook for Future (I)

16.09.2013 | 18:40 | Alexander MEZYAEV

The threat of US aggression against Syria remains imminent. It is highly propitious to go back again to the legal assessment of NATO and the United Nations leadership actions at the time of operation against Libya. The armed conflict in Libya and the following intervention of NATO in March-October 2011 against the Great Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, the same way as the armed conflict in Syria, made move to the fore a string of important legal aspects related to the very essence of contemporary international law…

Russia-US Agreement on Syria: Challenge Enormous, but We Can Do it Together

16.09.2013 | 00:00 | Andrei AKULOV

The Russia-US Agreement on Syriais a daunting challenge. Never in the history of disarmament anything like this has been achieved within the framework assigned, especially under the conditions of raging war.  Actually, to large degree, we face the prospect of a leap into the unknown… Time and again the turns of history show the Russia-US cooperation in tackling burning global issues is a must.At a summit in Northern Ireland, Russian and American leaders emphasized the increasing importance of cooperation in combating international terrorism, and adopted a joint statement on this score. It is very acute for responding to the events in Syria now…

Russia-US Agreement on Syrian Chemical Weapons

16.09.2013 | 00:00 | Georgy VOSKRESENSKY

Scrutinizing the agreement reached by the United States and Russia on Syrian chemical weapons, it is worth to note what Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on September 14 at the final press-conference in Geneva. According to him,   the general aim was to make the Middle East a place “free of WMD.”  It’s clear for all that it is wrong to exclude the issue of Israel’s nuclear arsenal from the Middle East agenda, because the problem is the source of constant tension in the region.  Nothing could provide more solid guarantee that the Iranian nuclear program would remain peaceful than the conversion of the Middle East into the zone free of weapons of mass destruction. As well as nothing would cement more the emerging mutual understanding between America and Russia – the understanding based on practical coordination of efforts in the regions of crucial importance for  maintaining peace on the planet.

Syria’s Crisis Enters New Phase

14.09.2013 | 17:37 | Boris DOLGOV

The Russia’s diplomatic proposal to transfer the Syria’s arsenal of chemical weapons under international control and its subsequent liquidation froze for the time being the Washington’s plans to unleash a military intervention against Syria. It has also moved the situation development to a new phase…
