Israeli right demands punitive measures against Palestinians following abductees murder
Edo Konrad, +972 Magazine7/1/2014
Palestinian teenager killed in clashes in Jenin while Israeli Air Force strikes over 30 targets in Gaza. Hamas still denies involvement in the deadly kidnapping.
In response to the murder of the three Israeli teenagers kidnapped two weeks ago, the Israeli Air Force struck 34 targets in Gaza Tuesday night, while four rockets were fired into southern Israel from the Strip. In the West Bank, the Israeli army killed 16-year-old Yusef Abu Zaga in Jenin after it entered the city to make arrests.
Israel s High Court approved the destruction of the home of Ziyad Awad Tuesday morning. Awad is standing trial in military court for the murder of Baruch Mizrachi, who was killed while traveling with his family near Hebron on Passover eve. Awad has not been convicted of the allegations leveled against him.
Israeli troops reportedly damaged the family homes of two suspects in the deadly kidnappings, although the army initially denied demolishing the homes. Elsewhere in Hebron, Israeli settlers reportedly threw stones at Palestinian homes and one Palestinian man was reportedly taken to hospital after being beaten by soldiers. Settlers also reportedly marched through the Old City of Hebron demanding revenge.
After the boys bodies were discovered on Monday, Israeli politicians quickly spoke of the need to deal a blow to Hamas, which they have consistently accused of being behind the kidnappings. Hamas has maintained that it did not carry out the kidnappings or murder of the teenagers.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Eyal Yifrah, Gilad Shaar and Naftali Fraenkel were, abducted and murdered in cold blood by human animals, and that, Hamas is responsible and Hamas will pay. more..e-mail

The tragedy of Rafah Crossing
Motasem A Dalloul, Middle East Monitor (MEMO)7/1/2014
VIDEO
Despite the occasional arrival of humanitarian aid to the residents of the Gaza Strip from several different countries, including the Gulf States, through the Rafah Crossing, Egypt still maintains the strict closure of Gaza’s sole connection to the outside world.
The Miles of Smiles 28 aid convoy, consisting of delegations from different Arab and non-Arab countries, is one such exception that arrived in Gaza on Sunday. It is the most recent convoy to enter through the Rafah Crossing between the besieged enclave and Egypt.
From time to time, Egypt does open the Crossing for pilgrims leaving or returning to the Strip. However, Gaza residents who are abroad usually have to wait in Egyptian incarceration for an unlimited amount of time until the Crossing is opened for pilgrims or in case of emergency.
Hundreds of Palestinians from Gaza have lost their work contracts or lost their businesses abroad because they travelled to Gaza to visit relatives or spend holidays with families, and then could not leave. The same happened to hundreds of Palestinian students studying abroad.
A large number of Palestinian patients, who are in urgent need of treatment abroad, are stuck waiting to leave. Many have died while waiting to cross through Rafah. People who urgently need to travel have carried out sit-ins at the Crossing on numerous occasions.more..e-mail

Breaking The Silence Going Viral Internationally

Israeli soldiers speak out on abuse of Palestinians – Yehuda Shaul says disturbing images represent norm in occupied territories
Yehuda Shaul, a former Israeli soldier who served in the West Bank and Gaza, tells how he and fellow soldiers secured a television screen one night while out on patrol, to watch a World Cup match.
It was 2002 and Brazil were playing.
The way we passed those night patrols was to bang on random houses, no reason and we d go in, wake everyone up, men in one room, women in another, mess everything up, onto the next house.
That night we wanted to watch the match so we were looking for a house that had a satellite dish. We found one, went in and locked the family in the basement while we watched the match. Why wouldn t we? That s what we do in the occupied territories.
The most important message you get from your superiors in the Israeli military is that every Palestinian needs to feel Israel is at the back of their neck. So, quickly, you adapt to the environment; you don t see the Palestinian in front of you as human. They are reduced to being an object.
A photograph accompanies the story, of a young Israeli soldier grinning to the camera, in a Palestinian family s living room, the aforementioned football match on their television in the background.
It is one of hundreds of chilling photographs taken by former members of the Israeli Defence Forces, of themselves and their colleagues engaging in what Shaul says becomes normal behaviour….more..e-mail

US Demand for Deep Centrifuge Cut Is a Diplomatic Ploy
Gareth Porter,Antiwar.com7/1/2014
With only a few weeks remaining before the Jul. 20 deadline, the Barack Obama administration issued a warning to Iran that it must accept deep cuts in the number of its centrifuges in order to demonstrate that its nuclear program is only for peaceful purposes.
U.S. officials have argued that such cuts are necessary to increase the breakout time the time it would take Iran to enrich enough uranium to weapons grade level to build a single bomb from what is said to be two to three months at present to as long as a year or even more.
Tehran has made it clear that it will not accept such a demand. Dismantling the vast majority of the centrifuges that Iran had installed is a highly symbolic issue, and the political cost of acceptance would be extremely high.
But a closer examination of the issues under negotiation suggests that the ostensible pressure on Iran is part of a strategy aimed at extracting concessions from Iran on the issue of its longer-term enrichment capability.
The Obama administration has been aware from the beginning of the talks that the breakout period could be lengthened to nearly a year without requiring the removal of most of the 10,000 centrifuges that have been used over the past two and a
half years.
US officials were well aware that reducing the amount of low enriched uranium and oxide powder now stockpiled by Iran to close to zero and avoiding any future accumulation would have the same effect and that Iran was willing to accept such restrictions.more..e-mail
