The Tories attack the Human Rights Act!

3 October 2014 — Liberty

Today the Conservatives unleashed their long-awaited plans to repeal our Human Rights Act and replace it with a so-called “British Bill of Rights”.

The proposals are legal nonsense, politically provocative and designed to put us on a collision course with the Court of Human Rights.

They will likely lead to the UK’s ultimate departure from the Convention on Human Rights and the Council of Europe. They directly conflict with the Good Friday Agreement and will further destabilise our fragile Union.

The plans are explicitly intended to diminish the rights of everyone in Britain – in particular vulnerable minority groups and children with parents facing removal or deportation.

– Read our Director of Policy Isabella Sankey’s analysis and dismantling of the British Bill of Rights proposals

– Human rights, eh, what have they ever done for you? Well, lots – watch and share our short film

– Download, share, print and distribute our step-by-step graphic guide to the plans

With your support, we can fight these illiterate proposals and protect our precious, hard-won human rights framework.

One response to “The Tories attack the Human Rights Act!”

  1. Why is the European Convention on Human Rights such a problem for us, and not the other 46 countries who have also signed up to it?
