1. Housmans Peace Diary 2017
It’s that time of year again! Housmans Peace Diary – now in its 64th year – will be published imminently. As ever the week-to-an-opening diary includes a fresh choice of quotations, and a new selection of daily anniversaries for celebration, thought, or protest. It also includes an updated directory of national and international peace organisations worldwide.
The special feature in the 2017 Peace Diary looks at how activists have survived surveillance and infiltration by security services and corporations – with tales of some classic examples, old and new. 2. Cleaner wanted // 3hrs per week // London Living Wage
We are looking for someone to help clean the building Housmans is in, here at 5 Caledonian Road, for 3hrs per week with pay pegged to the London Living Wage.

3. Hatha Yoga at Housmans! Sunday 20th November, 10am
In what may become a regular event, there’ll be a Hatha yoga session taking place at Housmans on Sunday 20th November, 10am, on a pay-what-you-like basis. Booking a place is essential. To do so please email sophie@housmans.com

The event marks the launch publication of George Orwell Studies, an academic, peer-reviewed journal, co-edited by Keeble and Newsinger and published by Abramis, of Bury St Edmunds.
Discussing Orwells work will be Richard Blair, son of Orwell and Patron of the Orwell Society, Paul Anderson, author of Orwell in Tribune, and John Newsinger, Professor of History at Bath Spa University. It will be chaired by Richard Lance Keeble, Professor of Journalism at the University of Lincoln and chair of the Orwell Society.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
The story of a poor, black American woman who died in 1951, and whose cancer cells – taken without her knowledge – became one of the most important tools in medicine.
Thursday 15th December
The Hammer Blow by Andrea Needham
The story of ten women who broke into a British Aerospace factory, disarmed a war plane with household hammers and their subsequent arrest, trial and imprisonment.

15. London Pacifism and Nonviolence Discussion Group
Housmans has a regular Pacifism and Nonviolence Discussion Group, who meet on the second Tuesday of the month. All are welcome, but please be prepared to join in the discussion. Please try to turn up by 7pm sharp.
In NOVEMBER we’ll be asking WHAT WOULD A PEACEFUL SOCIETY LOOK LIKE? (on Tuesday 8 November). And on Tuesday 13 DECEMBER the topic will be PACIFISM AND PARTIES.
