NEWS
1. Keith Armstrong
We would like to pass on news of the death of disability rights campaigner, concrete poet, musician and local activist, Keith Armstrong. Keith had lived in the Kings Cross area for the last 40 years or so, and was involved in a string of campaigns over that time. A regular at Housmans he will be a familiar name to many.
Housmans would like to send our condolences to his family and friends.
Keith had an extensive library, which has been donated to several groups, however you will currently find many of his books in our £1 basement – especially lots of poetry and history titles, in amongst his wide-ranging collection.
2. The Return of the Deep Gusset Housmans bag!
By special request and popular demand we have new stock of the Deep Gusset Housmans bag! Unlike regular totes, this bag has a 4 inch gusset, which makes it that much more spacious. It has long-handle straps too, which allow it to be carried comfortably over the shoulder. Currently on sale from Housmans at £4 each. Regular totes are still available, at £2.
3. King’s Cross local cafe news
A little plug for two local cafes well worth a visit if you are around Kings Cross.
First up is New Roots Cafe; a vegetarian and vegan cafe, which give all profits to the charity Highway House, which has a women’s shelter in Islington and also a shelter in Tottenham. Highway House tries to be a stepping stone so people can stay with them as long as they need as opposed to just offering a bed for the night. Check them out at 346 Caledonian Road, N1 1DU https://www.facebook.com/NewRootsCafe/
And secondly, another little community cafe in a leafy back street off the Caledonian Road, run single-handedly by the irrepressible Dee. Great food, good value, and set in a rare tree-lined oasis in King’s Cross.
You can sit inside, but its particularly nice outside on a sunny day. Mention Housmans and get a discount!

4. Transform: A Journal of the Radical Left
Landing at Housmans on Friday will be Issue#2 of ‘Transform’, a new journal “of the radical left”. Issue #1 sold out in a flash, and people have been asking for it ever since! Check out the contents here: http://www.prruk.org/transform-issue-2-july-2017/
