NEWS
1. Women’s Strike – Housmans closed in solidarity on Thursday 8th March
On Thursday 8th of March, International Women’s Day, Housmans bookshop will be closed. Housmans staff will be joining the global Women’s Strike. The women who work at Housmans are fortunate in that Housmans is a non-hierarchical organisation where all staff are paid equally, and where a conscious effort is made to reject oppressive social and cultural norms. Despite this, we have all experienced sexism and misogyny both in our workplace and in our lives. We strike in solidarity with all women who have experienced gender-based oppression.
More info on the strike and ideas of how to get involved on the day here: https://womenstrike.org.uk
2. Police Spies Out of Lives Postcards
No one deserves to be spied on! We all have a right to campaign for change without fear of state abuse. Police Spies Out Of Lives is a campaigning support group working to end the sexual and psychological abuse of campaigners and others by undercover police. These postcards illustrate the kind of people who found themselves the targets of the disgraced #spycops units, and some of the campaigning going on at the time. The full set of eight postcards is now available from Housmans, in-store and also online here (£4 for 8 cards): http://www.housmans.com/blog/?p=2834
3. Jobs and Climate: Planning for a future which doesn’t cost the earth – 10th March
Solidarity plug! This conference, organised by Campaign against Climate Change Trade Union Group, aims to challenge the false choice of good jobs versus the environment. Instead of settling for this, there is both an urgent need for action on climate change and a real opportunity for trade unionists to be at the forefront of campaigning for a transition. One which puts the needs of the planet, decent jobs and social justice at the top of the political agenda.

Wednesday 18th April, 7pm
